Diner Reviews
  • "My brunch experience was a little disappointing. The food was good but the servers seemed so aloof. I had to keep repeating myself as to what I wanted and the portion size was so small you had to keep coming back to the line. The waiter came to the table after about 15 min and after I had asked where was I waiter to take our drink orders."

  • "The buffet menu offers various food options. There is a salad and desert bar. There's also stations where you can create your personalized waffle and omelet"

  • "Jazz quartet was awesome! The ambience was so cozy and romantic. And the food was comfort food... reminding me of a Sunday dinner at grandmother's house. Truly a neighborhood gem!"

  • "I wanted to take my mom out for an enjoyable dinner/evening and found this place on the web when looking up Jazz Clubs. Upon arriving I realized that years before I had been to this place before, I must say I had a good time on that visit as well. So it was Tuesday evening & people were getting on stage and singing (karaoke night) and most of those sung very well...:). We had a good evening, food was great tho I felt we had to wait longer than needed considering there were very few people eating dinner at 7:00. I recommended this place to co-workers as I found out Wednesday night is the "jazz nite""

  • "We went for dinner and could not hold a conversation due to the noise level. Management was very immature and unprofessional and asked my date to leave because I refused to flirt with the guy....smdh. "

  • "While the food was quite good and tasty, that atmosphere lacked sparkle and the buffet was actually limited. I wouldn't recommend this to someone wanting a nice brunch experience. "

  • "Although, I've visited the Half Note Lounge numerous times for an evening of fun and dancing, this was my first visit for brunch. The food was very tasty and plenty of it. The serving staff were friendly and attentive to their customers. A special thank you to Manager Bryon. He and his staff ensured that my girlfriend and I were completely satisfied. We look forward to our next visit. "

  • "I was surprised that they wee running out of items just before 3:00 pm and brunch was ended at 4:00 pm. Don't accept 2:45 reservations if food will not be plentiful."

  • "I went on a Wednesday night which was hand dancing. They have an hour lesson around 530 and it is only 10 bucks. The cover charge was 10 bucks as well but was applied to our bill. The food was awesome and the crowd and music were great. Perfect for beginners or pros. Definitely worth revisiting."

  • "Went to enjoy Sunday brunch for good food & live music. Cancelled reservation at Georgia Brown's in DC to patronize PG County establishment. NOTE TO MUSIC LOVERS: It's a Jazz Lounge that doesn't have live music during Sunday brunch! Brunch buffet choices left a lot to be desired including no carving station. Customer Service??? Asked the buffet line server for a breast piece of chicken and he explained he would not know the breast from the thigh or any other piece. REALLY! And you're serving the food because?? Our waitress needed an iron put to her shirt before the came to work! You get 1 complimentary mimosa served out of a plastic flute which taste like SunnyDelight and cheap champagne! Almost cut my lip on the rim."

  • "We visit the location on a WEDNESDAY Evening, there were groups of friends celebrating Birthday's, Co-Workers meeting after work, & Singles at the BAR. Very inviting Place. OUTSTANDING SERVICE (I OVER TIP'D, SOMETHING I NEVER DO..UNLESS SERVICE IS EXCELLENT). My food was good (but how can anyone mess up Fried Shrimps) my girlfriends had very good food as well. LADIES ROOM CLEAN, MUSIC WAS GOOD, TV JUST RIGHT (ALL WAS WELL THAT NIGHT)... I would definitely recommend this Lounge. We plan to go back on a Weekend to see LIVE JAZZ.."

  • "The front line could a have used more than two servers to help cut back on the time spent in line. The main menu was located in the line which prevented my family from going back for seconds."

  • "Went here for a special occasion for brunch. It was a nice experience. Quality soul food and lots for the money. I would only suggest a better way to have warm bread and a broader dessert selection. Otherwise, pretty good."

  • "This was my second time eating here. The food is good and seasoned very well. My only complaint is the temperature of the food. Nothing was piping hot when it was served. Seems that the food was served lukewarm. Even the dipping butter for the seafood was room temperature. I had to ask the waitress twice if she could take it to the back and microwave it. I may return, but will likely choose another spot for brunch, especially since we live about an hour and a half away. Food should be kept hot!"

  • "Although it does not have a humongous buffet, it is a nice selection. The food I doled out by servers. Probably to limit people being wasteful. Hot waffles, omelette bar, perfectly cooked shrimp and sweet crabs make this place a great destination for brunch."

  • "The Half Note Lounge is a gem in the area North of D.C., a very place to listen to music, sit at the bar, or have a nice dinner with reasonable food and wine. We were there on a Tuesday with Karaoke going on all evening - and some really great singers showing up. A birthday party had brought a great group of people, the waiters were excellently friendly, and watching the energetic life go on made the evening very special. The menu has enough breadth to have something for many different tastes and the quality is solid. But the best is the scene, the people, the life that is enfolding in there. I'll definitely return the next time I am in the area and will sit there and enjoy."

  • "This is definitely a diamond in the rough. I have been coming to this establishment for years and every time I have a great experience. I am a seafood person so I love the crab cakes and the spiced up tartar sauce that accompanies it. I went on ladies night and the drinks were AWESOME! Will definitely be turning few people on to this spot .... or I may just keep it to myself."

  • "This is a cool lounge that offers great live music. Depends on the night you are planning to attend that will outline what experience you can expect from the lounge. Food is pretty good, and they offer a good variety of drinks. The service is ok and is pretty slow, so be prepared depending on what you order determines how long it would take."

  • "The only food I enjoyed at this restaurant was the omelette and the grits, and that is because it was they were freshly prepared. All the other items on the burners were not hot. I did inform the waitress of this."

  • "The Brunch was excellent! Great variety. The omellette and waffle stations were great. The entire staff swas very friendly and attentive."

  • "My visits have only been during the Sunday brunch service which ends later than most restaurants. The service is fine and the price is reasonable. The menu is not as extensive or ranging as most but there's always waffles and crab legs."

  • "Great place for live music. This was my second time at the lounge. Our mussels were great, but we had to send back one entree, and the shrimp and grits I ordered, were bland and cold. The service was great but they really need to work on the food issues."

  • "Excellent food, great ambiance and outstanding entertainment. Sometimes there are challenges with wait-staff experience but this night was exceptional. The service was excellent. The GM took care of my changing reservations to half hour later. He was very courteous and accommodating. His name is Chris and he is certainly an incredible asset for Half Note. You probably won't have issues, but if you do, you should probably ask for him."

  • "I wasn't thrilled about the Sunday buffet. I expected a better quantity in the food. Fish was fried too hard. The eggs hard and dry."

  • "Half Note Lounge is a quality restaurant/music lounge that most people would enjoy immensely and I definitely will return to dine there. The theme/concept, atmosphere, decor, and organization is exceptionally nice and well managed; and the food is excellent. Although it was nice seeing the young and vibrant wait staff at work, they appeared to be under trained and non customer-service oriented. I gave their service a 3 star rating (Good) because I felt that their overall service was better than 2 stars (Fair). I wish I had the option to rate them at 2.5 because the service was between fair and good."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and my son graduating from high school and we had some out of town guest that wanted to join us for dinner. So wanted to find a place that was close to where they were staying, and I found this restaurant. We went on a Tuesday night, which was Karaoke night. We had a wonderful time there. I just wished that they would have acknowledged our special events while we were there. I put it in the notes when I made reservations on OpenTable."

  • "Sunday brunch with my friends is one if my favorite social activities. Half Note, although nice, did not quite meet my expectations. The food was very good but the buffet was very limited compared to other brunch venues in the area. The staff was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was nice. I was very bothered that I had to wear a wrist band to be served at the buffet. If you are a true foodie this is not the place for you. It is better suited for casual dining."

  • "The food selection was great... Nice selection, but it is pricey."

  • "The Half Note is definitely a great place for dinner, live entertainment, as well as brunch. I’ve enjoyed dinner and the live entertainment on more than one occasion. This visit was actually my first time having brunch and it was absolutely amazing. We were greeted with a smile as soon as we entered and were escorted to your table where we were professionally and courteously greeted by your waitress. Our waitress was extremely attentive to us and seems to know exactly when she was needed. Our table was immediately cleared when required. An out-of-town friend joined me and had great things to say as well. Half Note is now at the top of my list for great places for Sunday Brunch."

  • "The Half Note has the look and feel of any big metopolitan city tuck away in the suburbs. The staff was exceptional. The clientel was mature and hip (telling my age with that word) and the price scale I believe is competitive. The decor was fabulous!! Loved it! Loved it! The food was good but not great. The background music was extremely loud causing everyone to yell just to talk to the person seated next to them. I would patronize Half Note again, however I would not become a regular as I find it to loud to socialize. The band was great after the sound guy worked out the kinks. Overall a good experience."

  • "Excellent service and food -- My first time there for Sunday brunch -- The waffles melted in your mouth -- Everything was fabulous -- Warm and friendly environment -- Great for small or large gatherings -- I was there with two others and I noticed, couples there for romantic outings, and family/friend gatherings of about 20 -- Seems to perfect for small and large gatherings."

  • "I had guests visiting from Florida and wanted a place to take them that would provide a little entertainment and dinner for the evening. Half Note was recommended. The decor, food and service made a lasting impression on all of us. Not only would my husband and I go to Half Note again, we will recommend it to others."

  • "Experience was ok, but nothing special, compared to restaurants like B. Smiths in Union Square whose food quality is better food selection is bigger, and Mimosas at brunch are unlimited with no extra charge this place needs to step it up some. Seating was also very tight, we were squeezed into a tight space and felt like we were sharing a table with the people next to us. Not to mention sliding sideways every time I got up from my table, this was very uncomfortable for me and I am small in stature so I can't imagine how someone with a little more size might feel. The waiter had to come ask if we were done with our condiments because he needed them for another table!!! I don't think my husband and I will return."
