Diner Reviews
  • "The setting was incredible, the food was memorable and the service was thoughtful and attentive."

  • "food was fine- even tasty and building was very nice BUT way over-priced for the quality of food. Menu is uninteresting. Service amateur. Noise level from piped music high. Drive into the city and have a much better meal for half the price"

  • "Went with some friends expecting great ambiance & food. Had a 7:30 reservation and waited 40 minutes for our table. We're the last people to get sat and we had to walk up and ask how much longer. We got tuna tartare, oysters and crab cakes for apps. I only had the tuna tartare but it was AMAZING. Was looking forward to my meal after that! I got the mussels for my entree. What I wasn't expecting, half of the mussels were uneatable. Told the waitress and showed her how they were bad. Said she was going to show the chef. Next thing we know we have the check with no comp for the bad dish. I really hate complaining at restaurants but I won't be back due to the way it was handled."

  • "The best thing about this restaurant is it's atmosphere. The wait service is attentive and somewhat efficient. As far as the food is concerned it's a bit pricey vs. the quality. You better know what to order. For example the ribs are good the chicken Milanese is terrible. The fish is generally good vs. the duck which is edible. Best to go with someone who is familiar with the menu. Ambiance is what you really get at the HALF MOON."

  • "I chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration and it was fantastic! romantic view, attentive service and great food!"

  • "We took my father to Half Moon for his 85th birthday. I asked for a table with a view and we were not disappointed. The service was a bit disjointed, I think they were training a new waiter because we had 2 people wait on us and one was clearly better than the other. Everyone except me really liked their food. I had the seafood mixed grill and it was not very good. The meatier fishes, salmon and I believe swordfish were really over cooked. It was served on a bed of julienned squash that was awash in butter and really inedible, so I just made a bad choice. They topped off the evening with a berries & cream dessert with a candle for my dad, very nice touch."

  • "This place is great even for a family or group of friends brunch on Sundays or a romantic dinner. Food is very good and the view is fantastic."

  • "When did it get this expensive? Barely any entrees under $30! The lobster/clam bake for 2 at ~$60 is a pretty good value; we had tons leftover... but other than that this food is WAY overpriced for the quality. However, the ambiance and view are unbeatable so I guess they can get away with it... We were not happy with the hostess, who promised to help us surprise our guests of honor, but then forgot and ruined the surprise. Oh well...."

  • "Beutiful location. Considering the size of the restaurant the tables are poorly arranged and usually up against some form of obstruction (rail, step, etc.). I rated the ambience as fair only because I felt no warmth no comfort, the place is huge and cold, yet the tables felt cramped. Menu is very limited, overpriced and not as tasteful as I expected."

  • "We had baked clams which were great. My wife had a lobster roll which she said was fresh and delish. I ordered a hamburger and after a bite found it was a salmon burger. Ithe waitress said thats what I ordered in all my life I have never asked for a salmon burger! i eventually got a nice burger but it was no fun eating it after my wife finished her meal"

  • "Been to this restaurant numerous times over the years. The last visit was a bit disappointing as I felt the menu prices have creeped up and the selections not that interesting. One of our diners ordered the Lobster Roll for dinner and it was really tiny!, not worth $25. Also it would be nice to have a few more wines by the glass to choose from."

  • "The most spectacular setting on the Hudson - mood lighting and ambience is perfect. For those of you who used to come to the Chart House just for the location, now you have a place to go for that and more! The wine list is wonderful, the service attentive, water glasses never allowed to be empty. The menu has something for everyone and all the dishes we had were perfect. The seafood dishes are delectable from the raw oysters to the comforting Lobster Mac& Cheese. GO HERE - you will be awestruck!!!"

  • "Restaurant has a 60's upscale cafeteria vibe and beautiful view. On a Saturday night the place was packed. Food made to specifications and tasty. I'm not in the restaurant business so I have no clue what the ratio of servers should be to the number of tables but whatever it should have been they appeared to have been very short. There were times when we were completely ignored for long stretches of time and had to chase our server down."

  • "My girlfriend and I had a really great time. The waiting area next to the bar was spacious and comfortable with a beautiful fireplace. The view of the ice and snow on the hudson river was breath taking. We sat with windows all around us. The view made the evening totally wonderful. I would definitely like to go again."

  • "Ordered the porterhouse and it was decent, I wish I would have gotten something else because I've been there before and the food was awesome. I didn't expect the steak to be unbelievable because you aren't really a steakhouse but it was still pretty good and a decent portion. I'll still always come back there!"

  • "I went and had dinner with my girlfriend. The dinner was amazing and the ambiance was amazing as well. The only thing i didn't like was the fact that i was sat on top of a vent so it blew in my face the whole evening. other then that the experience was great!"

  • "We have been here man, many times. This time the food was disappointing. The 3 cheese omelet had very little cheese. The turkey burger was dry and tasteless. The best things about this restaurant are the location…best views of the Hudson River and the service….friendly accommodating waitresses and busboys."

  • "Pretty weak all around - salads were ok but drowned in dressing. Both main dinners were lacking - mine was just a insane pile of food with the main ingredients buried below a head of shredded ice berg! My children could prepare something as good. The othe main was overly salty, indelicate in every way and not the right temp. The people are nice and pleasant but maybe not that well trained...maybe it is a better summer spot for the views. The old chart house facility they moved into always was a bit strange I thought..."

  • "Atmosphere was very good. Although the restaurant was not completely full the decibel level was still quite quite high, I could still hear my date but i suspect a full house would have made thaa little more difficult. The bread came out and was still warm and gone very quickly. We had the pizza appetizer which was awesome. My date had the sirloin and I had the BBQ spare ribs. Her dish was great, my ribs were a little on the dry side, the bbq sauce was on the side. For dessert we had coffee and we shared the cheesecake special which came with raspberries and chocolate gelato, which was delicious. Overall, i would definitely recommend, especially when warmer where you can see terrific views of the Hudson."

  • "Excellent Lobster Mac n Cheese and calamari. Average prime rib - overcooked. Sparse crowd on a Friday night, usually packed."

  • "We waited quite awhile for the waiter to take our drink order and again to place our food order. The food was OK but oddly priced and plated: Mac& cheese $25, no garnish just dumped in a bowl; swordfish $29, attractively plated. Could be gracious but wasn't."

  • "I have been going to the Half Moon restaurant since it opened and am typically pleased with the overall experience. However, The past few visits have not lived up to the Expectations I have for the restaurant. The quality of the food appears to have declined Somewhat and the service is not what it's been In the past. On this most recent visit I had requested A table by the windows and had even called again the morning of the reservation to remind them of my request. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed when I arrived at the restaurant and were not seated at the windows. In addition, the restaurant's unusually dim lighting has gotten even dimmer over the past year."

  • "The food was average. Use of oil and heavy sauces made it less appetizing. There was not a good selection of salads or vegetables. The menu was dated and not very interesting"

  • "I have no problem spending money on fine food and good service. Unfortunately, we had neither on our recent visit. Despite the emptiness of the restaurant at 6:30 on a Saturday nite, we were shown to a table in a corner surrounded by two large parties. We asked to move and we did get a better table. I spoke to the waiter and told him we were not in a hurry and wanted time between appetizer and entree. But no...our salad had barely been removed (and arrived 7 minutes after we ordered it) and our entrees were placed on table. All in all, the restaurant had us served and table cleared within an hour - and that is with a $110 bill before tax and tip. Most disappointing and I will not be back!"

  • "best scenic restaurant in westchester On a beautiful sunny day this is the place where you want to be. The restaurant use to be the Chart House with its sister restaurant in located in Weehawkin New Jersey The Half Moon has scenic views of hudson, tappan zee, nyc skyline on a clear day. The the raw oysters were fresh and so was the lobster. We ordered the Boat which is light a seafood tower but shaped like a boat( must order it if you want to impress your guests). Contained lobster, shrimp, oysters and clams (they need to add crab legs or crab claws to it ) This is a great place for a special occasion or just for appetizers and drinks on the huge patio on beautiful days and nights (it gets really busy in summer)"

  • "Location is beatiful, right on the hudson. Service was very quick, almost too quick. We were in, we were out.... Food unfortunately was mediocre , nothing to remember. I guess there was a reason why, their sister restarunt (Harvest on hudson- in Hastings) was fully booked that evening and they were half empty...."

A go-to spot for me, my wife, family and friends. Great place for a celebration. Vibrant, excellent, very nice atmosphere. M.Coratolo"

  • "On a Saturday night my wife and I like to dine at the Half Moon's Bar where we are treated with TLC by the staff. I had the Clambake for one and had a second meal the following day and my wife had the Salmon cooked to perfection. Although you might only think of the Half Moon for dinner on Summer's evening the dinning room is cozy, the service excellent and the food outstanding all winter long."

  • "Food was good but service was mediocre. Wait staff, while pleasant, got several requests wrong....Prime rib was delicious but overcooked--not medium rare as ordered. Request for potatoes to be off the dinner plate, though emphasized, was not done. We often had to seek out our waiter for various requests. Don't know if this was an off night but it certainly diminished our experience."

  • "We often have lunch or brunch here when we meet friends and family from New Jersey as it is a halfway point from our N. Westchester home. The location on the Hudson River is beautiful for indoor or al fresco dining. The restaurant is attractive and our servers have been excellent. The food is very good. Our foursome had turkey burger, hamburger, eggs benedict and bananas foster pancakes and we were all pleased. Although the restaurant was crowded we were not hurried by the staff and were able to linger for a while to finish our visit."

  • "Always great for business lunches-dinners, tried to bring family for the over 2years and finally had the chance the other night and...was simply magnificent. The whole family (with 11 & 13 yr old boys) could not get enough and honestly, we all left totally satisifed and looking to come back quickly."
