A word from Halcyon, Flavors from the Earth
Halcyon is a refined new restaurant dedicated to sustainability and a community perspective of food. Elegant presentation of rustic dishes, composed of locally sourced produce and proteins and served in an atmosphere of tranquil farmhouse chic, cements our place in the "locavore movement" and Charlotte"s palate. Our dining room showcases a stunning view of the Charlotte cityscape through a wall of windows. Bask in candlelight beneath a painting of mythological Halcyon at a table sculpted from natural wood and enjoy a magical combination of ambiance, ingredients, and the techniques of Chef Marc Jacksina.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "My mixed drink was missing a main intense flavor so it just tasted like booze. The salad was very good but too much dressing. My appetizer/main course was excellent - the scallops and pork belly. My desert the lemon cake with strawberries tasted liked cardboard. Dessert was the only bad element of the meal, otherwise it was a 3.5 out of 5."

  • "The food was fresh and certainly enjoyable however the service incredibly subpar for a restaurant of this calibre."

  • "Liked it - did not love it. The starters were my favorites. Cheese trio and snack board were both interesting. I had the duck breast - ok but had a sauce the had no real taste. Drinks were interesting."

  • "Delicious food, very unique and different. Not large portions, but great quality. There are plenty of unique cocktails as well. Pricey, but worth it for the quality and experience."

  • "This was our first visit here....It was a very hot sticky evening...lots of people outside. The food was very nice,we had small plates...the service was not attentive and I felt that the restaurant was somewhat "untidy" the behind the scenes in particular were cluttered with staff shoes/boxes etc and there were used napkins/silverwear to the left of the bar area .I felt I wanted to go around and clear everything away and give everywhere a good clean...it lacked sparkle..but lots of staff chatting was visibly going on. But as stated the food was very nice which is the most important from the chef/owners point and they were all very visible....but I think now that dining out is more about the total experience??"

  • "We were expecting a little more from Halcyon based on other reviews. We were surprised (not in a good way) by the prices. The food was good. Some over use of spices/sauces/breading on what is advertised as fresh ingredients. Chef needs to let the key ingredients stand out more with less cover."

  • "What a beautiful place, in a great Uptown location. Table was a slice of a large tree. Very innovative, and keeping with the earth theme. Service was great. Menu was a little more difficult to understand than other restaurants with lots of small plate options. I had a Blue cheese soufflé which was excellent. Then I had a scallop and Pork belly plate, that has two of my very favorite things. Scallops were great but the pork belly was dry, and very uninteresting. But the Braised Bison made up for it. Amazing. The rest of my party was pleased, but not a lot of wows. Overall, it was very nice experience. Service was very good."

  • "Loved the open to the city glass walls that made you feel as outside! Ribeye sandwich was sliced thin and medium rare with a wonderful spiced dressing that was yummy and the homemade fries delicious! Want to come back after work and have drinks and appetizer that overlooks the mint & knight theater area. Loved the mason jars for water glasses! Wasn't offered water refills though. I was with a group of 10 for lunch so that may be why the water was overlooked. Otherwise service was good."

  • "What a lovely setting for a farm to table meal that was delicious, original, and the service....perfect! From our signature cocktails to dessert, the whole meal was un-rushed, perfectly seasoned, the wine - amazing, and dessert simple and purely wonderful! If I ever return to Charlotte this would be my first destination."

  • "Great for an evening drink. Lunches are disappointing. Salad had watered down dressing, two orange segments and two scallops for $15. When waiter asked how the meal was, I explained it. He offered to bring more slices of fruit. Will not go back for food. Location is great, over-priced drinks are too."

  • "If you are looking for creative cuisine and first rate service Halcyon fits the bill. Starters were creative and artistically plated, but appeal to a unique palate. The best dish was the small plate veal tournedo. Tender with a delicate, flavorful sauce. I opted for that when my scallops carbonara was too salty and smoky for my taste. The server and GM graciously accepted by rejection and substituted another dish and comped my original entree. Dessert was fine raspberry cheesecake. Cocktails were done well, but pricey. The restaurant was half filled at 8pm Saturday night, not sure why. Wonderful views from the outdoor and plentiful window seating was a highlight."

  • "I went for Sunday brunch. The restaurant boasts being the place to dine within the Charlotte art museum. I am in the arts world and my experiences have been at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, The Wallace Collection in London among others. All are refined in their dining from menu, decor, and service. Halcyon scores zero from being overpriced for mediocre food, the service and ambiance is deplorable with dishes and dead plants piling up on a wait table on the deck in plain site of patrons. The worst part? No dress code or certainly a lack of any decorum. Flip flops, tank tops, cut off fanny showing ripped jeans? Really? I never made it to the museum with Halcyon as the first course."

  • "Been here twice and each time everything was great. My Mom wanted a sandwich without the bread and the chef (cook staff) made a special effort to plate the ingredients as if it were a dish (and not a sandwich). Service and food were great. "

  • "A very special place. Lunch on Saturday is not where you would expect something special but the menu selections were far ranging, from French toast to seafood vegetable broth based soup.. Lots of preparation were evident in the dishes we ordered and the originality of ingredients was remarkable. The kitchen was very busy when we left at 3:00 with extensive activity preparing for Saturday night dinner, chopping and cutting vegetables etc. The wine list was quite simply extraordinary. Choices are available from all the world's wine regions in both red and white. Wines by the glass were somewhat limited however. Wine tasting flights that would encourage experimenting with some of this diverse selection would be a welcome addition. "

  • "We had a fantastic dining experience. Food was amazing and the service was specatcular. Halycon continues to be one of my favorite places!"

  • "While the food was delightful, it took exceeding long getting to our table. We arrived at noon, ordered fairly soon after and were served our meals about 12:40 - leaving only a few minutes to eat the meal before having to return to work. And no one ordered anything overly complicated. I would like they would have their game together a bit more for their lunch time crowd, since I am sure business lunches are a common occurance. But the sandwiches and fries were excellent and the appetizer platter was generously portioned and delicious."

  • "Went for lunch. Menu was not extensive, food tasted fresh, but not sensational. Ordered the Seafood Bouillon for $15. It contained 1 shrimp, 1 scallop and mostly broth. The value was not there for that price. "

  • "Just wish Halcyon would add some affordable wines by the glass. There is nothing less than $9 a glass (and only 1-2 of those) and most are $14-16 and they are not even generous pours! Also wait time is entirely too long. This time we were finally served 50 minutes after being seated. Even when you tell the staff you have a performance to attend and they thank you for that information, service is unacceptably too slow. And finally this time while the good was great as always our entrees were not delivered as ordered. The manager did apologize and sent over dessert--two portions for four diners. . ."

  • "Halcyon was the perfect uptown brunch spot! The food & drinks were fabulous, view beautiful, and wait staff was attentive. The freshness and flavors of our dishes were so good. The overall atmosphere was relaxing. It was a perfect for brunch. I will be back."

  • "Ordered the duck and found sauce thin, flavorless; the duck was tough and over cooked. The use of Mason jars for water were a turn off for me. I may be a redneck Southern but never have I drunk from a Mason jar. In general the menu was over priced and the portions were small. The citrus house salad was delicious and the service was quite good. So many good restaurants in Charlotte that I do not plan to go back to Halcyon."

  • "Four of us ate early before a show, so there weren't many diners. We waited nearly an hour for our food. Two ladies' tortellini was barely warm and my fish was a little overdone. Our meals had obviously sat somewhere for awhile before we were served. The manager apologized and brought us some more wine, but no one offered to reheat the cold meals. In fact, our waiter seemed amused at our complaints. For a pretty pricey place, one would expect the food to be excellent and the service to be attentive and eager to please. They really dropped the ball with us. We won't be recommending Halcyon to our friends. Very disappointing. "

  • "The sausage Rueben missed the target. 1) Stick with Rye bread, 2) Slice the sausage so it lays flat and can allows a sandwich can be held in your hand. More slaw, More Dressing. Over all a good experience. The pork belly as an addition to the frisee salad was over the top."

  • "If you have never been to the museums downtown you probably don't know about this gem of a restaurant. If you have, you probably go back again just to eat at Halcyon! This is the place for chef driven farm to fork food that is always an experience of delight! Every dish is original and created just for Halcyon. Craft cocktails here are totally original and the wine List is always a treat. If you want to experience dinning at its best halcyon is the place. And the view from inside or out is lovely! LOVE this place! "

  • "From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with the respect of fine dining. Our waiter guided us through the menu choices, and showed great knowledge of how the food was selected and prepared. We were no rushed to make a decision in our selections from the menu, which motivated us to start at the top, and had a selection from each group. While we enjoyed dining with our six friends, the view of the skyline, steepled topped roofs and the Moon over Charlotte gave us a spectacular dining experience. "

  • "An amazing menu and really wonderfully prepared. Hamachi was incredible, rich and light at the same time, beautifully done. Veal, perfection. Rabbit, someone else at the table had it and raved about it. Every bite worth it's own review. Honestly, an amazing meal of fresh ingredients, simply and inventively prepared and presented. Every visit to Charlotte, I'm stopping in. Loved it, start to finish."

  • "The place is beautiful, we have been wanting to eat at Halcyon for quite some time. The food was just OK and pricey. The service was terrible. Our waiter Noah, made a big mistake with our order and didn't even acknowledge or apologize for his error. When I mentioned it, he was so rude that it ruined the whole experience. Needless to say, we won't be back."

  • "The scallops and pork belly were very good. Sadly, the duck was tough and not very flavorful in spite of being medium rare. While the sweet potato puree was silky and excellent, the white vegetable with it was tasteless. Not even sure what it was, parsnip, maybe? The setting is great with good view of Tryon street."

  • "I had lobster ravioli at Halcyon, and it was delightful. My wife and I shared ice cream for dessert. They make their own ice cream, and it is divine. Nice location, too, on the second floor of the Mint Museum in Charlotte. Live music to top things off."
