Diner Reviews
  • "This was my first time there and wow what a time. First, the service that you receive is amazing! You have a waiter, that knows everything when it comes too drinks and the food ( well trained)! Then there are other people and mangers in each section that over look the progress of your meal. So when you are finished they will take your plate right away, fill your water right away. You go to the bathroom, they will fold your napkin for you. The food matches the service! Amazing food! I would recommend making reservations, the day before, seeing it gets busy after 5:30. I don't write reviews, but one of the best places i have been in San Francisco."

  • "the food and service at Hakkasan are exquisite - I keep going back and bringing friends for these reasons. HOWEVER - the burn a nauseating incense that really ruins the atmosphere and badly affects the taste of the food. I complain every time. The tell me it is a corporate requirement. Tell your corporate people to stop this rule. If that is done, then Hakkasan is PERFECTION!"

  • "Hakkasan is terrific on all accounts! The food is flavorful and beautifully presented. The Dim Sum sampler to start are delious morsels to get the meal started. If you like spicy order the spicy prawns - they are not overally hot but a great spice level - the prawns are delicate and sweet and stand up to the fabulous sauce. The cocktail menu always delights as well."

  • "Great restaurant for a good time with friends! Love the vibe, music, and the food was excellent too!"

  • "The great food compensates for the loud , club like atmosphere and mediocre service . This is my second time at this location and I like it as much as the NYC location . The food is amazing , this time we had dim sum, Chilean sea bass , scallops , truffled duck, fried rice with shrimp . The bartender shook a mean martini too !"

  • "As always lived up to my expectations and I have allergies so I have to be very careful. Everything was superb."

  • "We picked Hakkasan to celebrate our 12th anniversary, and are so glad we did. The food was delicious - lovingly prepared and presented - and the staff was fantastic. Everyone we came in contact with was friendly and professional. The ambiance is great - chic and hip, but comfortable. Try the claypot chicken or the sweet/sour pomegranate pork - yum. We loved the place and will go back."

  • "Overall, a wonderful experience and great flavors! Only issue was $6.00 for a glass of iced tea...we asked for a refill and was charged an additional $6.00 per glass...REALLY? Water over a tea bag...$6.00? Bill ended up with $24.00 for iced tea."

  • "Our group of four really appreciated the outstanding service. Our server who guided us through the menu was extremely helpful, polite, charming. Others who helped table-side were also timely, friendly, not obtrusive.Great menu with plenty of choices. Noise level was high, but the manager moved us to a quieter table without any trouble. Excellently prepared and well presented food. Pricey."

  • "Have been to Hakkasan on various occasions and have never been disappointed! The food is consistently great. This time I tried the crispy fried silver cod....OMG! The spicy prawns was also a big hit. Can't wait for my next visit...... Yummy!"

  • "A member of our party has a severe Gluten and Dairy allergy and as a result, we need to be very careful in dining out. This was of no concern at Hakkasan. There were a number of choices - all which sounded so good, we (including the gluten eaters!) ordered gluten free for the entire meal and it was so flavourful! The combination of ingredients ensured every mouthful was delicious. The decor is beautiful and the ambiance very chic. Just wish there was a location in Toronto!"

  • "I have nothing to say but awesome. The champagne fish is the best fish I have tried in Chinese cuisine."

  • "Being over the age of 55, we did not appreciate the high decibel sound of the music. I think that someone must have turned it down a bit as we had asked, but understood that it was a "swinging" place and that was the vibe which you wanted to prject.. Our waiter was v. good & helpful. Overall, it was a pretty good dining experience."

  • "We have eaten in London Mayfair and Tottenham Hakkasan and had the same pleasant experience in San Francisco. Every dish we ordered was awesome and the service was flawless."

  • "I eat there once a week. Always gave top marks. Wednesday it took 1 1/4 hours for our entrees. That's not a typo. Server didn't keep us updated until we realized we had to leave in 15 minutes to get back to work! For the fist time the food was disappointing. Has the restaurant changed owners?"

  • "Tried Hakkasan for the first time this Saturday and loved it. Lots of great options for vegetarians. Enjoyed the steamed veggie dim sum, the Hakka noodles, the tofu aubergine. Loved the PB&J dessert too. Looking forward to trying more dishes next time. Great atmosphere, food and service."

  • "Okay.....is it possible that one restaurant chain can achieve perfection across twelve locations around the world? Well so far, my experience in both the New York and now the San Francisco locations say yes. All around perfection, starting with the cocktail and ending with the mint tea. The flavors, both subtle and bold linger on the palate longer than anything I've experienced before. The night will be long because you'll want to savor each and every bite!!!"

  • "Outstanding food with the small exception of the lobster soup which was ok but not outstanding like the rest of the food. Great service, food was spaced perfectly apart and staff were knowledgable and friendly. Superior atmosphere"

  • "Location, food, service, ambience. Destined to be a San Francisco classic -- if it's not already one."

  • "Somewhat disappointing experience. The dim sum was fine, but I've had much better. Good place to try once."

  • "Initially, I was expecting to get a Fusion Chinese taste, but the DimSum and the Stir-Fry black pepper beef ribeye had an excellent traditional Chinese taste. I really enjoyed the food. A bit more pricey than the regular Chinese restaurant, but they offer an excellent service, making the visit worth it."

  • "The wine and cocktail especially the western style deserts greatly compliment the Good Chinese foods .. we tried the duck, beef and also the lobster noodle (these are highly recommended), all are very unique and tasty but definitely a bit over priced for the small quantity .. As compare the the traditional Chinese resturants like the koi Palace, Asisan Pearl, HK Flower Loung, R and G Lounge .."

  • "My girlfriend and I went to Hakkasan for a Valentine's Day dinner and I was ashamed to pick this place. The food was terribly overpriced and wasn't memorable. I didn't notice anything on the menu that justified paying such a high price. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant cause San Francisco is such a great scene for food."

  • "It was great! A little crowded, but it was fun. The bill was also expected to be as such (not cheap)."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Very hip place and fun, but wildly overpriced for what was pretty mediocre food. I don't mind paying for quality, but outside of the duck salad, the dishes were pretty blah. Dry sea bass, very fishy lobster soup, underseasoned lettuce wraps. I'd probably go for drinks next time, but go elsewhere for dinner. Dinner and drinks for three was over $300."

  • "Their meatless chicken is amazing!! And the chocolate orange is tasty science."

  • "Our dining experience was fantastic. The service was exceptionally attentive, but not too overbearing and interruptive. The suggestions for menu items were very well received and every course we tried was truly fantastic. I visited with a group from out of town, so I was very pleased that they were highly content with the venue, food and service. I also liked the aesthetics of the bar and the layout of the restaurant. Very sleek, modern and trendy!"

  • "A very unassuming location with great views of Market Street down 3rd. The restaurant design and ambiance is hard to beat - felt a bit like New York and a very international vibe. Excellent food and service, great bar. I will definitely be visiting her more often."

  • "From the moment we stepped in the door to when we left the service and staff were exceptional. The food and cocktails were fantastic, albeit expensive. If you have an appreciation for ambience and great service i feel the price becomes seemingly less exorbitant as you equate it to the totality of what, for us on this evening, was a wonderful experience on the whole."

  • "If you enjoy high end gourmet asian cuisine, this is your place. First visit was one month ago. Have been there three times since. Have yet to try something that less than fantastic."
    Dined on 2/6/2014
  • "Food and service excellent, but Las Vegas vibe and music too loud, adding to yet another good place that is unnecessarily and unpleasantly loud"
    Dined on 2/6/2014
  • "Food is great especially the lettuce wrap, fried dim sum platter, hot & sour soup, duck salad, pipa duck (the best!), tofu with seafood basket (I scooped up every morsel), pork belly, sweet and sour pork, fried rice with chicken and salted fish (one of the best I had) and noodles with crabmeat and scallops. However, dessert is not their strong suit. We had the apple tartin and coconut pudding - they were ok. Service, as usual, was friendly and attentive without fuss."

  • "I now eat at this restaurant every week. I love to introduce my friends to this superb restaurant. The food is only surpassed by the service."

  • "Food was exceptional. The only negative is that the wine was overpriced!"

  • "We loved Hakkasan! Very expensive! It's a great NY style restaurant with lots of atmosphere! We will return, but only for special occasions, since it is quite pricey for what you get."

  • "We are 60ish and had no idea the extremely loud/lively bar scene was so pronounced. The food was excellent but the entire experience was marred by an unbelievable noise level from the music and very loud shouting in the bar. Great for young people-not so great for a couple looking forward to conversing over a great dinner."
