Hakkasan New YorkLove it!The only regret was that we couldn't try everything on the menu in our first visit. We will be back to try so much more.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Chinese food I have foundBest Chinese food I have found in New York. Beautiful restaurant, great service. My only complaint is that the music is unpleasant (continual thumping) and too loud. The staff is willing to turn the volume down if asked but a restaurant of this quality should not play such dull and loud music.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious but not creativeThe food is delicious but I think if you are looking for something that's really creative, this isn't the place to go. I was happy with what I ate but everything tasted good and traditional. I was a bit surprised though that the desserts that came with the 3 course meal were macarons. I would have guessed that at a French restaurant but not in Asian style restaurant. It was nonetheless good.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat foodcavernous - dinner crowd is noisy but the location and decor and most importantly the food is A+. go at lunch is much quieter and can have a business conversation. they are also located in london and the quality is the same which is important.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMQuiet at lunch. Hakkasan hasQuiet at lunch. Hakkasan has two vibes....lunch is quiet and dinner it a major hip hub....either way the food is great and so is the service and the ambiance.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA well-deserved starWhen you walk off 43rd Street into Hakkasan it feels as if you are entering a different world. A long marble hallway merges into a softly lit space with numerous dividers. It is quite surreal and relaxing. The food is very varied and inventive, with a lot of welcome vegetarian options. Very delicious. Service was friendly and helpful. This is a gem in the Theater District and deserves its new Michelin Star.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMImpressiveThey did this place right in every way. Food, Service, Decor....all first rate. I can't wait to go back and intriduce it to other friends.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dim sumWe only ate Dim Sum and a Cod but the quality of the food was fantastic.
Service was haphazard and we had to remind our waiter to bring our drinks and our coffee6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FoodThe restaurant is beautiful, we had friends that came from out of town and it was a blast. Food was great, Taste and appearance. Was a bit noisy from the bar as there is no real separation between them but overall was excellent.
Recommend for any occasion.
Portions not big to share but very very tasty.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly recommended restaurantThe dim sum brunch was amazing. Yes, it's a little expensive but the food quality is fantastic. The drinks were awesome and our server knew exactly what to recommend.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMgive it a trywe loved Hakkasan in london..and decided to come pre theatre in nyc, even though friends warned us off. everything we ordered was delicious..restaurant was pretty empty on a friday night and too many staff people milling around talking to each other...but, spread the word..the food is very good5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMwe loved it. beautiful space.we loved it. beautiful space. great food and service.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMPre Theatre friendly diningWhat a great place. Very cool decore and feel - we were there at 6pm but imagine this place is happening later at night.
Great service and a pre show menu that has a great price for a 3 course meal with drink. Service was very good, attentive, and sensitive to our 8pm show time. Very convenient to walk from here to 42nd street theaters for a show.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent!Dinner was great, food was fresh, an excellent menu, great flavors. Would definitely go back.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMHakkasan Is FantasticFirst time eating at Hakkasan. Unfortunately, I don't live in NY so I can't eat here more often. Came w/3 friends for a pre-theatre dinner. Started with the steamed dumplings, both meat & vegetable. They were phenomenal. Next we had the Chilean grilled sea bass, pipa duck, Szechuan Mabo tofu with minced beef, and Hakka noodle with mushrooms and Chinese chive. All were expertly prepared and flavorful. The duck was especially good - ah, the crispy skin. We finished w/desserts - Champagne mango and vanilla panna cotta, Coconut pudding, and Chocolate orange. All were yummy, especially the chocolate orange. Service was great. Our server, Julian, was friendly and made several suggestions, all were winners. The Michelin star is well deserved.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI've dined at Hakkasan twiceI've dined at Hakkasan twice before and again I've thoroughly enjoyed my meal. A friend and I both chose the pre-fixe dinner which offers great choices and plenty to eat with a glass of wine or martini included. You can't go wrong with that and have delicious food at the same time.
My only criticism is the background music. It was better than the rock that played between 6-7:30 pm, BUT still not appropriate when one is dining. Rock music is for later at night, standing at the bar etc. and the music that played Friday night was too noticeable and not for accompanying meals. We don't need Chinese opera, but surely the DJ knows more about music that is out there.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter Theater GemOne can find wonderful flavorful Asian cuisine late at night in this Theaster District venue. The space is a bit noisy but otherwise top flight in every respect.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing!!Holy smokes--the food is incredible here! It's not like your typical Chinese place--really high quality dishes with great care and presentation. Our group of 4 started with Dim Sum (beautiful!), Duck Rolls, and Pork Ribs, moved into a midcourse of Peking Duck (some of the best I've ever had), and finished with Chilean Seabass with Honey (well balanced), Steamed Red Snapper (spicy, yet flavorful), Lamb Stir-Fry (my favorite), and some noodles and fried rice. Dessert was exquisite and beautiful--each one a work of art, I hated to eat them! (Not really). Highly recommend this place!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent AmbianceNot your usual Chinese restaurant fare - a modern take and the flavors were more subtle. Portion sizes, relative to a conventional Chinese restaurant, were on the small side. The ambiance was terrific, something you would not expected when you enter the non-descript building.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my second visit toThis was my second visit to Hakassan and I was not disappointed. The food was awesome, and there are specifically designated menu items for vegetarians. The service has been over the top and special kudos to manager Alexander Jen who made my latest visit a perfect one.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways goodI come here at least once a month! I love the fun drinks and must have the peking duck amongst other dim sum plates! When this restaurant opens a year ago, it was not so packed and I could walk in and expect a table! Not anymore! Must make reservation ahead of time! Very festive and feels very cool!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA great special occasion choiceWent here after my graduation at Radio City music hall. Due to the prices, this place would only be picked on special occasion and it was so worth it! The dumplings were superb, the cay pot dishes were creamy and tasty and the dessert, especially black sesame was out of this world. Would definitely recommend! Oh and of course, the drinks selection were great. I had one of their speciality drinks which tasted great, but was a little weak. I would still recommend trying the creative cocktails tho!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for brunch and was pleasentlyWent for brunch and was pleasently surprised! Menus was 39 dollars and was great!!!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best!Went to Hakkasan in London, same great food here but much better ambient and music!
A must go!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Unforgettable ExperienceI enjoyed my brunch experience at Hakkasan,. Everything from restaurant décor to food to service truly lives up to its Michelin star. There is not one bad item in the menu that we ordered. I will highly recommend it to anyone I know who is visiting NYC. Perfect for special occasions. I booked the brunch as part of my birthday gift to my niece, which also included watching the musical Wicked. I am sure she had a birthday gift she will never forget.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent in all aspectsI've been twice to Hakkasan now and I have nothing else to say but: "almost perfect"... The chef is the Robuchon of Chinese food! Creative, different, quality ingredients and so good! A pleasure for the eyes and the palate! The decor and ambiance are top notch. A couple of nights ago we had the steamed dim sum platter... sooo tasty... their jamine tea leaf smoked ribs... unbelievably good. For entrees, we had the spicy prawn entree... five star... and their Wok-Fry Duck Breast with tangerine peel, which is the only reason why this review is a 4 stars not five. It was good, but not mind blowing! Overall this place is great in all aspects, I will go back when I want a special time.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food&service are amazingI been here couple times, I always have a great time. They signature dumplings is wow, and the duck too.
I try to go there once a month!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ambiance off Times Square. You can't go wrong with great Chinese food served in super cool setting...well priced....consistent and good value in a place where many restaurants can disappoint...5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMNice place with good service. The restaurant is lovely and not too loud, and the service was very good. We are vegetarians and there was no shortage of offerings. The dumplings and vegetarian chicken dish were particularly delicious. It was great that it was not loud so we could hear each other speak.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMNeed more professional waitressWaitress should be better trained to give recommendations. When I asked her how was the duck dish with the tangerine peel cooked, the response was " I don't know and I don't eat duck". I continued to ask her if the duck dish have a sweet flavor or is it salty. Her response was "all Chinese food are salty"'. Inappropriate responses took points off my rating for Hakkasan.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMHakassan is INCREDIBLE!! aHakassan is INCREDIBLE!! a wonderful and chic dining experience. I've now been to both Miami and NYC Hakassan's are both are equally as fantastic.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent!!! Great food, fantasticExcellent!!! Great food, fantastic service and beautiful decor. Can't wait to return.
Fabulous dining experience.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI was immediately impressedI was immediately impressed with the ambiance of the restaurant; love the decor. I was afraid the tasting/pre-fixe menu would be small and I don't like macaroons. So I ordered the hot & sour soup with chicken and my entree was the green tea smoked chicken along with an order of bok choy (obviously for 2 to share). I ate everything and it was delicious!! Obviously no room for dessert. I did order jasmine tea (the pot was for 2 people). It all added up to an expensive lunch (& I didn't order a drink), but I decided I was treating myself. Chatting later with a few women in the lovely ladies room, they said their pre-fixe lunch was delicious and plenty to eat and the drinks were fabulous.
Definitely returning, but for the pre-fixe dinner4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMHakkasan is an elegant andHakkasan is an elegant and superb dining experience; highly recommend for every occasion.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMhighly recommendable! We had a great time.very efficient and rapid service. Unbelievably good food. Great ambiance. We'll be back and bring more people!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative (but never weird)Creative (but never weird) modern Chinese cuisine. Striking decor. The signature cocktails were innovative and delicious.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMHakkasan is ExceptionalExpensive, but exceptional Chinese food. Not for "the egg roll crowd" or "Bridge & Tunnel" tourists who are better served by going to Shun Lee West. This is an over-the-top circus of interesting food for people who appreciate really creative, exceptionally prepared food. The bar makes some of the most outstanding cocktails anywhere. Try the Smoky Negroni or the Hakka. By 9pm - 10pm the place is rocking. The service is sexy, attentive, and well informed. Dinner for two is easily $200 to $350 depending on your selections. It could be a lot more too. Worth it? Yes. All the time? No. But who cares.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently excellent, HakkasanConsistently excellent, Hakkasan doesn't rely on its hype, it keeps delivering.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBest, most authentic, andBest, most authentic, and finest Chinese food in New York4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding everything isOutstanding everything is almost perfect. You pay what you get for.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFinally some refined and authentic,Finally some refined and authentic, well-cooked Chinese food in beautiful and clean surroundings.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb Peking DuckThe decor was exciting. The service was excellent and attentive. I have food allergies and even when my very exotuc cocktail was mistakenly made by the bar tender the waitress caught it in time. Best of all, the Peking duck, which was what we came for, was simply superb and just the best we have ever eaten anywhere.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is as beautiful asThe food is as beautiful as the ambience! Love that place!!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been three times overI've been three times over the past month and it's among the best food (chinese or otherwise). The Bartenders are extremely knowledgeable and they can mix a serious cocktail. The Smoked Negroni is worth a trip to the bar for the show. The wait staff is helpful and gracious. Wonderful.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and food. IGreat service and food. I little loud for me but very vibrant environment.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and trendy. VeryDelicious and trendy. Very cool vibe. Very inconvenient for those commuting via Port Authority (actually why we chose it). Everything was great, but it is pricey.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, this place is fullAs always, this place is full of energy and vibrancy. The lively bar scene, the good selection of cocktails/wines, the just-right service manner, the well prepared and flavorful Chinese food, all makes Hakkasan my most favorite niche Chinese restaurant in NYC. As a Chinese food critic, I find the fusion here being very delicious; unlike most fusions which are for the looks/feel and not the taste.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I have been thereMy wife and I have been there and done that. But we were shocked. This was a great restaurant with superb food and outstanding service. We took the time to personally thank the manager. I have not done that in years.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best Chinese restaurantsOne of the best Chinese restaurants we have been to in years. Fantastic ambiance and superb food. Great service as well. This restaurant has a Michelin Star and it is well deserved.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMa jaded New YorkerGreat Ambiance and design, we had a Saturday 6 pm reservation, to our surprise the restaurant was not full when we left at 8:00 pm,
Steamed and fried Dim-sum were great, the soft-shell crabs where outstanding, so where the curried shrimp, the steamed redsnapper was a flop, no distinction
The side dish of tiny Bok Choy with garlic was superb
we were not offered the Pre-Theater menu which is on the website, had to asked for it
Would come back anytime, will try Sunday Brunch or weekday Lunch next time4/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
