Diner Reviews
  • "HakkaChow is our new favorite restaurant in Winston-Salem. We have recommended it to friends, who now go even more often than we do! The quality of the food is fantastic, not to mention the variety! Everyone can find a favorite on the menu...even those eating Vegan or Gluten Free diets have their own selections. Family members who love sushi were thrilled with the new choices and the quality--food, presentation and portions. Whether you are looking for a special Asian dish for dinner or just a fantastic salad for lunch...HakkaChow has it all."

  • "Despite less than favorable reviews, our experience was quite pleasant and the food was fresh, hot and tastes great. Service was professional, we never felt rushed. Plates removed promptly, drinks were always kept full. The staff made great recommendations and the bar has creative twists on traditional drinks, including the sake! Must try at least once! Great for date night!"

  • "Had the edemame and miso soup to start with , both were below average. Soup had very little flavor. Entrees were mongolian Beef and Spicy Chicken dish. Both were delicious ! Would go back. Very large menu to choose from."

  • "This is without a doubt the best SE Asian place to eat in the Triad Area. We met friends there from Greensboro and enjoyed the recently added Korean stone pot meals. Hearty and delicious with copious amounts of meat veggies and savory broth. Be sure to try one of their signature Sake Sangria's for starter drink or after dinner aperitif. Wonderful!"

  • "The good was so good and the ambiance is lovely. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive as we had a large party. I hope more people discover this restaurant! It's really a great spot!"

  • "I chose Hakkachow for a twenty-something birthday celebration. It was my second time eating at this restaurant. Ten people were in my party. It was polished setting if you want to dress up or dress casually and they made my birthday a special occasion, promptly waiting on everyone and answering all of our questions."

  • "One of the best places to enjoy the fusion of food and flavors from the lands of South East Asia. Here you find Malaysian, Singapore, Indian and Thai foods all available and very authentic. My wife is from Singapore and we are always seeking out that regions food and usually forced to drive many miles to the major metropolitan areas. Finally a place where we can enjoy the foods of her region close to home."

  • "Probably the best Asian cuisine in Winston! Also, the restaurant staff were very accommodating and incredibly friendly waiting staff."

  • "We had 4 diners this evening, 3 out of 4 meals were very good. I ordered the BBQ ribs which is shown as a favorite. The ribs were very tender however there wasn't much flavor. Would not order again. Our waitress was very good about keeping our refills going, however other parts of service was lacking. The waitress was not familiar with items on the menu and never returned with answers. Table orders were not taken in order. We were at our table 20 minutes before the table next to us, but our waitress took their order first. Also, there was an issue with removing dirty items from our table. At one point I loaded up the tray that they brought our food out on. "

  • "After ordering, the waiter came out and brought me the wrong item I had ordered. My husband ate while I waited on my original dish to arrive. Afterwards, I was offered a FREE glass of wine for their mixup. Their beer keg was messed up and they were literally stiring up the beers with a spoon trying to serve to patrons. My husband sent his back and luckily was not charged. I will not be returning to this restaurant."

  • "This beauty of a restaurant is in an unusual location because it is tucked away from the Hanes Mall Blvd. and you might miss it if you miss the marquee sign on the road. Its worth the effort to locate it! Delicious and varied food choices; great ambience; super service. I would recommend it for the "adult" scene. It doesn't strike me as a place a family with small children would go; it is dimly lit inside and feels romantic as soon as you step inside the door. Enjoy!"

  • "Awesome food, nicely diverse but not overwhelming menu that was excellently executed, and stellar service. Only knock I'd give is not having the standard oils/chillis/sauces at the table, but our server was VERY professional and supplied us on request with several sauces for sampling at our request. Our whole family actually preferred the "sweet brown sauce" over that of PF Changs, and I personally found the brown rice just a bit more pleasantly moist than PF's as well. And, it's 20 minutes closer than road trip to Greensboro, so a win-win all the way around! We'll definitely be going back!"

  • "First time visit. The service was excellent and waitress was knowledgeable. All 4 dinners were very good. Korean short rib with kimchi was packed with flavor. The curry coconut soup was an unexpected treat. We try a new restaurant every month and this did not disappoint. "

  • "The food is prepared perfectly with excellent presentation. Quantities are good for the price. In fact, all the prices are excellent considering the quality of the food. The only thing better than the food is the service. The waiter was cheery and attentive. A great destination for almost any occasion."

  • "Food looked appetizing and portions were large, but the taste was off. The Lo Mein was plain, honey chicken was plated on a bed of peanut sauce?? Do not recommend at this time."

  • "Everybody was happy! All of the food tasty and attractively presented. Pork dumplings a hit! Ahi tuna salad a hit! Lettuce wraps a hit! Curry a hit! Calamari was average (according to the person who ordered it). Service good and restaurant still beautiful. New patio furniture will be great for outdoor luncheons. "

  • "The menu and price point are similar to a PF Changs. I thought the food was mediocre, not as good as restaurants that are less expensive and not as good as PF Changs."

  • "On a whim my wife and I chose to try Hakka Chow on a Saturday evening out without the kids. The experience was excellent. The menu was quite varied but I settled on the India Shrimp. It was spectacular. I could taste and quite enjoyed the many spices and subtle flavors of the dish. The shrimp were plentiful and of high quality. I chose the Jasmine rice and found it to be prepared perfectly for use with this dish. Our server was attentive - almost bordering on overly attentive but I'll give her a break on that as we told her it was our first visit. I would say without reservation that this restaurant is as good as PF Chang (or better) without having to drive to Greensboro and wait for two hours for a table. Give them a shot!"

  • "Tonight we tried out Hakka Chow for the first time, and were fairly disappointed. The food was uneven--very good Mongolian Beef and an undercooked eggplant dish. Our waiter was very nice, and he tried to get us a side of rice noodles, but was told no substitutions or add-ons. The kitchen seems unable to take any special order requests, despite a request from our waiter. Red flag! The top shelf gin and tonic ordered had no taste of Tanqueray, despite the $10 price tag. No offer to replace it either. The manager this Friday night seemed socially inept. He didn't greet anyone , and the whole time we were there didn't ask any guests about their dining experience, nor make eye contact with customers. Overall a let down."

  • "I have been to this new restaurant 2 different times (open 2 weeks), and both times the food was very good, but the service was spotty, at best."

  • "I predict that this will be the best Asian Eatery in the Triad. Excellent selection of food across the spectrum with Thai, Malaysian and Indian mix. The Malaysian Chicken was as authentic as anything I had in Malaysia, will go back for this dish alone. The starter dumplings were great as was the Eggplant entree. The service was enthusiastic with the delivery timing a little off given that this is their first week of operation. The wine and beer list was excellent and the boutique beer draft prices very good at around $3.50 each. The ambiance was upscale but the prices were reasonable across the board."

  • "The restaurant is beautiful, unfortunately the food was just ok and our server was absolutely horrible. If you asked for something, you could bet that he would either bring it to the wrong table, or bring the wrong item. Multiple times he forgot sweet tea vs unsweetened and had to bring another pitcher or glass. (He only had 2 tables, they were not busy) Food was slow in preparation and while the presentation on the plate was beautiful... The flavors just weren't hitting it. Spring Rolls were good, the General Tso's chicken and Orange Chicken were lacking in flavor and rather boring. There are other nice Asian Fusion restaurants in town that are better priced and much tastier food. We likely will not return."
