Diner Reviews
  • "A new menu had just been introduced when we dined. Some of the items were not "up to par". One of our diners had a lentil soup that was very unpleasant. The vegetables were larger portions and quite good. We were steered away from one or two menu items because they were still working out some kinks in the items. The service was very good. We had had the waiter before and he is very good. The wine list is extensive, but wines by the glass could be improved. The manager offered to serve a wine favorite by the glass to me that was only listed as being available by the bottle. Nice touch."

  • "Beautiful spot but food was mediocre at best. Staff was disorganized even though we were the only ones there. Given it's hype and the fact that it's in an amazing g hotel - it was extremely disappointing. With so many other spots in downtown Pittsburgh to go to - I'd take a pass on this one for sure."

  • "The service provided by Raj was beyond exceptional, he recalled our dining preferences from four months ago and guided us through the menu for those entrées suitable for vegan & vegetarian dining. The Habitat is the perfect place for special occasions."

  • "We came here because we were told there was a special vegan menu. I was disappointed that there was only one vegan item, the sweet potato steak (or something of the like) but it was delicious! The food was too pricey for what it was, but overall very good."

  • "Let me begin by saying that I enjoyed my experience. The bit that threw me was the lack of feel. The restaurant is without any true personality its not modern while not old. It is not hip but its also not romantic. It is not reserved and yet it's not bustling. It just exists. The food is solid but to me its like getting a 4 carat Harry winston piece in plain brown wrapper. It get the job done but you kind of want/expect more. Now if that is the angle of Habitat they have hit the mark. I just feel that there is far more potential there and they just aren't realizing it."

  • "Food was excellent with layered complex flavor. Watching the chefs work the kitchen was fun but didn't help the ambience. Service was a little slow but pleasant and knowledgeable. Certainly fit for foodies."

  • "We had not been to Habitat since the Fairmont first opened. We returned on the recommendation of a family member. It was fairly crowded and fairly noisy. They do have a gluten free menu which made me very happy as I do have Celiacs Disease. However, during and after ordering, our waiter would make a comment which indicated that he did not make a note of my gluten free request. Therefore, I had to keep reminding him and this, consequently, made me a bit nervous. The food, when served, was delicious and I asked, once again, 'gluten free, right?" All turned out well."

  • "This was my first esperience at the restaurant and found it had a very pleasant atmosphere, interesting menu and wine selection. The waiter was attentive and accomodating for our special requests. He also asked if we were dining before an event and made sure we we done with our meal with time to spare. Both my guest and I enjoyed our meals however the only minor downside were the prices for the entrees and sides, coffee and tea. We exprience a bit to sticker shock."

  • "I had been looking forward to going to Habitat for ages but I was very disappointed by the food. I had the beet and goat cheese salad which I didn't finish. The beets were lightly pickled and the cheese mushed into the plate. We also had the nan which was boring and the sweet potato risotto which lacked any flavor or seasonings. My son had the duck which he liked but was a tiny portion and I had the scallops which were barely lukewarm and overall tasteless. The food was overall less than mediocre and highly overpriced for the poor taste. The ambience was lovely and the service was good, not great, but I have no complaints about it. I was very disappointed."

  • "Visited Pittsburgh from Columbus, OH for my sister's birthday. She loves Habitat so we stayed at the Fairmont and had dinner and breakfast at Habitat. The portions were tiny, the food was not hot nor warm, the server forgot to bring a glass of wine to the table and the service was slow. Breakfast on the other hand was excellent"

  • "Habitat provided a wonderful experience. The food was fantastic. My salmon was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned and the sauces complemented the dish very well! My drink was very good, just the right amount of alcohol. Our waiter, Rahj was spectacular. The only negative was the time it took for dessert. But overall great experience."

  • "Very fancy, quiet scene with beautiful view and sounds of live jazz band playing in background. Food portions right for someone wanting to explore the different eclectic dishes on menu without leaving feeling uncomfortable. I made mistake of ordering heart healthy option forgetting that it would mean less salt, less flavor which is not my preference. Food presentation excellent, colorful, and well laid out. My husband and I ordered two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts."

  • "I am very excited with the gluten free menu choices. It if very difficult to dine out and find an establishment that is gluten free friendly. I had the burger and it was delish! The gluten free bread is wonderful!! Very excited!!"

  • "We were celebrating our anniversary and wanted to try something new. I was referred to Habitat by a friend who had recently dined there and was told it was an excellent establishment and I was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly, informative and accommodating. The appetizer, entree and dessert were all expertly prepared to perfection and was one of the best meals I've ever had. We also were given complimentary champagne in honor of our anniversary and they topped our dessert with a thin piece of chocolate that had "Happy Anniversary" written across it. Definitely a great place to go if you want to treat yourself to fine dining."

  • "I visited Habitat for lunch. I ordered soup and salad. The cauliflower soup was oily broth. Not what I expected at all. The arugula salad looked pretty but only contained a few, very thin slices of apple and raisins along with a spoonful of minced fig. The salad filled half the plate and cup of soup was more like a shot size."

  • "From soup to dessert we enjoyed every bite. We thought it was a bit pricey and portions are small which we knew from reviews but everything was delicious, service was excellent. We went to Andy's after dinner for jazz we will definitely return!"

  • "We had terrible service by an apathetic waiter. We had to ask for more water adn more Iced Tea. The food was pretty, but small portions. My Squash Salad had four quarter sized pieces of grapefruit on it, and it was supposed to contain Toasted Barley. I had to put on my reading glasses to see if it was there. The service was extremely disappointing, especially when we saw another waiter taking good care of another table. To top the evening off, we found out that when we got our car from the Valet that it cost $20 to have them park it! There was no signage, adn we had to wait for 15 minutes to get the car. "Sorry, we're busy tonight" was the excuse we got from the Valet. Sorry, we will not be back is our answer.."

  • "My husband & I are food snobs, yet we were SO impressed with everything from the risotto, Beet & goat cheese salad, potato soup & the best item on the menu was the naan bread!!!! The WARM naan bread with dipping sauce was out of this WORLD"

  • "Had a belated valentine dinner at habitat. Overall I thought it was wonderful! The food was OUTSTANDING! And our server was very helpful and friendly. He helped us chose our dishes and dessert. And he did a fantastic job! We did wait several minutes (maybe 10) at the hostess station before being greeted. That was honestly the only negative part of the night. But obviously not a huge deal, it certainly didn't ruin our night. When they were out of the wine we ordered, the sommelier came right over with another recommended wine. He was very nice and his suggested wine was delicious. I recommend the beet appetizer! It was incredible!! Also, the apple brown betty dessert that our server recommended definitely hit the spot after a great meal"

  • "We should have known to leave when the hostess took 10 minutes to get to her station to seat us. The experience was downhill from there on. Our waitress took at least 1-15 minutes to even approach our table for drink orders, we then waited an additional 10 minutes for our drinks and to place our orders. Not only was our service the slowest I have ever experienced, our waitress was extremely rude and made us feel as if she were put out by us! Instead of apologizing for the extremely poor service, she blamed it on being the Sunday after Valentine's day, what?? doesn't even make sense. The food was also terrrible, served lukewarm and thrown in front of us as if we were farm animals. we will never be returning there for brunch."

  • "This was our 5th time at Habitat. We were well aware of the prix-fix Valentine Menu, but the waiter was not. Courses were mixed up, poorly explained and delivered out of sync. We waited for a check longer than we should and the whole evening was surprisingly un-like other experiences there. We were without proper utensils for a time, and desserts had to be returned when wrong. For the money we spent-we expected more from a highly regarded restaurant."

  • "The food was not high quality, average to poor at best, management needs to re- evaluate processes."

  • "I have been to Habitat before for lunches and really enjoy it, so I was excited to go for dinner, but we had a time limit-1 1/2 hours. He made sure that dinner was very relaxing but we were out the door in plenty of time to walk to the theater. I was impressed with the extensive wine list and their menu. I don't normally order off of the dietary menu, but its offerings were just as tasty. We had the Salmon and the Walleye. Both fishes were full of flavor and very moist. We both commented that if it weren't for the bread at the table, we would have licked the plates cleans. We even ordered our dessert off of the dietary menu. It was a heavy almond cake with apricot that we split and had with coffee. The coffee was superb! Very delightful!"
