Diner Reviews
  • "At here with out of town colleagues and a local opinion leader. It was the perfect setting and just upscale enough, but not too extravagant."

  • "Great place for dinner... Great service and the food was also excellent"

  • "The food was unimpressive...our lobster was very undercooked. A wedding was taking place in the ballroom down the hall, consequently, we could barely carry on a conversation due to the music. But our waiter was attentive, charming, and helpful. Way to go, Phil!!"

  • "We took our 15 year old son there to celebrate his birthday before a show at the Benedum. Everyone there was thoughtful in remembering his birthday. The food was excellent and artfully presented. Our waiter was one of the best we have had at a restaurant in downtown Pittsburgh. Lovely meal."

  • "The whole section in the menu dedicated to "benedicts" made this place a must. Went at an odd time during the week for breakfast so the place was all but empty but I really enjoyed the layout and the full wall of windows kept it naturally lit. Parking is a little steep, but on par for being in the city, (expect to spend anywhere from $10 - $20). Not the place for a down-home country breakfast but the perfect place if you're feeling a little posh and want a bloody mary or mimosa with breakfast."

  • "Underdone main courses and poor service on a Saturday night in an 80%-filled dining room. Great drinks and wine list. We wouldn't hurry back because there are so many other great restaurants in Pittsburgh now."

  • "We had never been to Habitat before this weekend. We made reservations to dine here before a show and it was a superior experience. Our waiter was well spoken, well groomed, and greeted us by name. The food was outstanding in taste and presentation. And the restaurant itself was comfortable and well-appointed. We will most definitely be returning soon."

  • "Sunday Brunch is not crowded. I assume because more people don't know about it. It has a nice menu available, or you can do the buffet. Both are recommended. The dining room is large and modern."

  • "Habitat excels in presenting a menu featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The entrees are imaginative and very satisfying. This is a real gem on the Pittsburgh culinary scene. Service is friendly and efficient and the staff seems to go out of their way to assure a pleasant dining experience. This is not the typical hotel restaurant, but a destination for those that appreciate good food and courteous service."

  • "Great experience and wonderful food. One of the best dining experience I ever had."

  • "In the past hotel restaurants have had a bad reputation but in recent years have improved. Since our last visit a year ago we did not see any great improvement. Last year I ordered a bottle of wine and received a different bottle. The server said they replaced it and did not change the menu. This year we were charged $25.00 for a glass of champagne that was listed at $17.00. While the quality of the food and presentation was excellent, my wife's lamb and my halibut were overcooked. Appetizers and desserts were very good. Our server Deborah was attentive and did a good job. We stopped at lobby bar after dinner. Blood orange juice missing from my cocktail. Server: Oh! We were out of it. At $14.00 a drink, no excuse. Tell me ahead of time."

  • "We have been to Habitat several times over the years. It is a great choice combining dinner and a show in the Cultural District. It is an easy walk to all the performance venues. The food is basic fare with interesting yet simple preparation. The restaurant emphasizes local farm sources where possible. Our server was attentive and aware of our need to be out in time for a show. The room is spacious and quiet enough for conversation."

  • "Our group of 3 couples had a Friday pre-theater dinner reservation. My husband and I had dined at Habitat once previously, but it was the first visit for our friends. The service and attention was professional and welcoming from the moment we arrived all the way through dessert and coffee. Even though our table was near the open kitchen area, the energy level was high enough for a good atmosphere, but not loud enough to interfere with our dinner conversations. As with the first time, the food was brilliant. Our choices included the lamb, scallops and lobster entrees with side orders of the snap peas. Everything was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. I highly recommend Habitat for a quiet dinner for 2 or a small group gathering."

  • "Habitat was great! If you are looking for a nice and relaxing dinner date spot, check this place out. We had the vegan entrees and were very impressed. The food was amazing, the staff was super friendly, and our overall experience was awesome. Highly reccomend."

  • "Went for dinner after the CLO Cabaret. It was 10:00pm so the restaurant was pretty quiet. My husband had the scallops which he enjoyed. I had the halibut and it was a little over done. The vegetables were good. We had the coconut-carrot soup to start and it was just okay."

  • "Everything was tasty, and the options were varied. But I left hungry."

  • "Our waiter Phil was a true pro's pro and provided great service. The mushroom risotto was excellent, and the mashed potatoes were heavenly. "

  • "By being overcooked, briny, and gristly. This place had so many rave reviews... I still can't believe the level of badness. Our first choice for dinner was Meat and Potatoes, but it's booked four weeks in advance. Whereas this place was more than half empty at 5:30 on Saturday. Hmm... On the plus side, the server was very nice, and the restaurant is beautiful."

  • "Reasonable lunch prices, outstanding menu choices although I only had a caeser salad. Would love to go back and try their other dishes."

  • "I have been to Habitat several times to eat and have always had a great experience. This last visit, however, was on par for some of the worst service I've had lately. The server did not pay much attention to our table (of 2 on a Monday night), never checked on us once we received our food, and was missing in action most of the meal. I've read similar reviews lately and worry that this may be a new trend at Habitat. Fingers crossed that this will work itself out and may just be a bad bunch of staff. "

  • "Easily the best meal I have eaten out in a while. From start to finish the food was outstanding. The service was friendly and competent. Any complaint would be nitpicking. "

  • "Hi - We had an enjoyable meal after getting off to a rocky start service wise. Our server was so occupied w/ a large table that we sat for what seemed like 15 minutes waiting to order drinks. Finally my husband went to the hostess stand and demanded that they assign a different waiter. The manager got our drinks and comp'd them. Great place, but all tables were at about 1 1/2 hour dinner pace. Good local steak, great dessert. "

  • "Four of us had dinner at Habitat before a performance at Heinz Hall. It was fabulous! Appetizers were wonderful -- house-made naan and mushroom risotto shared by the table, and our salads and entrees were outstanding -- two had filet, one had chicken, and one had Scottish salmon. All were exceptional. The avocado, cucumber and romaine salad with olive oil and lemon was delicious. Look forward to returning soon!"

  • "we enjoyed the goat cheese chicken (which was on the diabetic menu - but still flavorful), beet salad, and Mac and cheese. Everything was enjoyable but nothing blew us away. "

  • "The hostess greeted us with a warm welcome. The ambiance of the restaurant felt bright, crisp, clean and cheerful. The Express Lunch options were adequate and enjoyed by my guests. As for the salads, the Baby Spinach Greens was absolutely wonderful. For a lunch menu, the prices are a bit higher than other restaurants in the area, however, the quality of the food makes up for it. The service was very good and our server was pleasant. Love the water pitchers!"

  • "A couple girlfriends and I dined here after reading the versatile menu and we were not disappointed. Not only do they use organic, local and sustainable ingredients wherever possible - the menu was great and for all dietary needs. This is the only place I've found so far in Pittsburgh that offers a macrobiotic section. Each of our meals were SO delicious from start to finish. I appreciate the knowledge and effort to accommodate dietary restrictions and doing it so beautifully. Will definitely be going back very soon. "

  • "Eating at Habitat for lunch was a treat. With that in mind, I expected more and Habitat delivered. I had the BLT Crab cake sandwich which was excellent. I have crab cakes at restaurants all the time from the beach to many high end establishments, and I would definitely choose it again at Habitat, for I have to say it was my favorite that I have had in Pittsburgh. My friend whom I met for lunch had the lunch express- which was half a sandwich, salad, soup and dessert. She loved it and it was worth the price of $18.00. Great place for a nice lunch. "

  • "service truly terrible. I had to get my own utensils at one point. No water service. When i asked for water they filled my glass and no one else. We waited for 30 min or more before order was taken. The side vegetable dishes came 10 minutes after the entrees. The side dishes came without serving spoons. No one offered ground pepper for the salad. The rest rooms are far away. For a place as pretentious as this, it was an embarrassment."

  • "The food was great. Our duck was more cooked than we ordered the first time but they promptly fixed that. We enjoyed everything we tried. The waiter was perhaps a bit over attentive but it was early in the evening. I would also specifically ask for the sommelier if you would like a wine recommendation. "

  • "Took my wife there for an anniversary brunch, the flowers were on the table waiting for us. The food and service was excellent. Very nice atmosphere. Pricing was very reasonable being at the Fairmont in downtown Pgh."

  • "Carrot/coconut soup had no taste of coconut to it. My husband's steak was tough! All of our food tasted salty. Food had spilled on our table and was never cleaned up. Water glasses were not refilled in a timely manner. I was disappointed. It looked as though there wasn't enough help! "

  • "It was my Birthday . My husband planned the evening. It was the most Romantic Evening we have shared in a while. The food was superb , the waiter was fantastic we could have not asked for anyone better. The Evening Manager showed us where the Nann bread was being prepared and baked. This was so exciting , it truly was An amazing evening. I only wish my husband would have made our 44th Wedding Anniversary Dinnerat Habitat, which was the next evening. I have shared your business cards to several friends over the weekend. We Thank You for making my Birthday Dinner a wonderful Romantic, and fantastic evening. We will be dinning With you again in the near future. Sincerely Mrs. Lorraine A. Sepp"

  • "Habitat has become our favorite downtown restaurant. The food and service are excellent. The high ceilings carpeting, tablecloths, et. al. and well spaced tables allow for acoustically pleasant conversations. "

  • "A new menu had just been introduced when we dined. Some of the items were not "up to par". One of our diners had a lentil soup that was very unpleasant. The vegetables were larger portions and quite good. We were steered away from one or two menu items because they were still working out some kinks in the items. The service was very good. We had had the waiter before and he is very good. The wine list is extensive, but wines by the glass could be improved. The manager offered to serve a wine favorite by the glass to me that was only listed as being available by the bottle. Nice touch."

  • "Beautiful spot but food was mediocre at best. Staff was disorganized even though we were the only ones there. Given it's hype and the fact that it's in an amazing g hotel - it was extremely disappointing. With so many other spots in downtown Pittsburgh to go to - I'd take a pass on this one for sure."

  • "The service provided by Raj was beyond exceptional, he recalled our dining preferences from four months ago and guided us through the menu for those entrées suitable for vegan & vegetarian dining. The Habitat is the perfect place for special occasions."
    Dined on 4/13/2014
  • "We came here because we were told there was a special vegan menu. I was disappointed that there was only one vegan item, the sweet potato steak (or something of the like) but it was delicious! The food was too pricey for what it was, but overall very good."

  • "Let me begin by saying that I enjoyed my experience. The bit that threw me was the lack of feel. The restaurant is without any true personality its not modern while not old. It is not hip but its also not romantic. It is not reserved and yet it's not bustling. It just exists. The food is solid but to me its like getting a 4 carat Harry winston piece in plain brown wrapper. It get the job done but you kind of want/expect more. Now if that is the angle of Habitat they have hit the mark. I just feel that there is far more potential there and they just aren't realizing it."
