Habitat is perfect for people who like organic food. It's so hard to find a restaurant in Pittsburgh that has grass-fed beef, organic chicken, and locally grown vegetables."

  • "It's always a pleasure to bring new friends to Habitat. First timers feel instantly comfortable when walking through the Fairmont's lobby; smiling employees always offer a friendly hello. The staff in the Habitat's dining room are warm and gracious; book window-side table across from the open kitchen, if possible. The views to the street below and the busy kitchen staff are great. Food prep is inspired, with local, fresh ingredients and the menu changes seasonally. The chef's features -- coq-au-vin of cornish hen on this night -- are always a good pick. You can really taste flavor profiles. Portions are just right, allowing room for dessert. Our table was amused by the "hemp" ice cream! What is that? Unusually delicious!"

  • "I really enjoy the fact that most of the food here is locally sourced and fresh. It really lets the diner know that you can have great, tasty food that doesn't have to come from 1000 miles away. It is a little pricey, but I have never been disappointed. One of my favorite restaurants. Love what they do with the in season veggies, whether soups, salads or incorporated into the main dish."

  • "This was a return to Habitat after about a year's lapse. I wonder why I waited so long. Unlike so many restaurants in Pittsburgh, Habitat's noise level allows the group to conduct conversations without all the din. The menu offers selections for all kinds of taste buds. Our diners had the scallops (done to perfection), the lamb chops from the fall menu, and the grass-fed beef tenderloin. All were done perfectly and served picture-perfect. The beet salad has been something I have ordered on every visit to Habitat and it has never disappointed me as well as the Naan bread. The other important thing about Habitat is their high standard for cleanliness - the wine glasses and cutlery shine. No dessert for us because a cake was at home."

  • "Previous review by me expressed disappointment with food and service. This time everything was excellent. Last time our food (duck breast, lobster) was undercooked. Sat. Nite my wife ordered scallops and the waiter told her that they usually leave the center a bit cool. She was given the option of having it cooked more thoroughly which turned out to be perfect. Desserts are OUTRAGEOUS!! Go there just for dessert. At any rate, Habitat lived up to its reputation as a place that skillfully prepares locally-sourced meats and veggies of the highest quality."

  • "The whole section in the menu dedicated to "benedicts" made this place a must. Went at an odd time during the week for breakfast so the place was all but empty but I really enjoyed the layout and the full wall of windows kept it naturally lit. Parking is a little steep, but on par for being in the city, (expect to spend anywhere from $10 - $20). Not the place for a down-home country breakfast but the perfect place if you're feeling a little posh and want a bloody mary or mimosa with breakfast."

  • "In the past hotel restaurants have had a bad reputation but in recent years have improved. Since our last visit a year ago we did not see any great improvement. Last year I ordered a bottle of wine and received a different bottle. The server said they replaced it and did not change the menu. This year we were charged $25.00 for a glass of champagne that was listed at $17.00. While the quality of the food and presentation was excellent, my wife's lamb and my halibut were overcooked. Appetizers and desserts were very good. Our server Deborah was attentive and did a good job. We stopped at lobby bar after dinner. Blood orange juice missing from my cocktail. Server: Oh! We were out of it. At $14.00 a drink, no excuse. Tell me ahead of time."

  • "We have been to Habitat several times over the years. It is a great choice combining dinner and a show in the Cultural District. It is an easy walk to all the performance venues. The food is basic fare with interesting yet simple preparation. The restaurant emphasizes local farm sources where possible. Our server was attentive and aware of our need to be out in time for a show. The room is spacious and quiet enough for conversation."

  • "Our group of 3 couples had a Friday pre-theater dinner reservation. My husband and I had dined at Habitat once previously, but it was the first visit for our friends. The service and attention was professional and welcoming from the moment we arrived all the way through dessert and coffee. Even though our table was near the open kitchen area, the energy level was high enough for a good atmosphere, but not loud enough to interfere with our dinner conversations. As with the first time, the food was brilliant. Our choices included the lamb, scallops and lobster entrees with side orders of the snap peas. Everything was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. I highly recommend Habitat for a quiet dinner for 2 or a small group gathering."

Our first choice for dinner was Meat and Potatoes, but it's booked four weeks in advance. Whereas this place was more than half empty at 5:30 on Saturday. Hmm... On the plus side, the server was very nice, and the restaurant is beautiful."

  • "I have been to Habitat several times to eat and have always had a great experience. This last visit, however, was on par for some of the worst service I've had lately. The server did not pay much attention to our table (of 2 on a Monday night), never checked on us once we received our food, and was missing in action most of the meal. I've read similar reviews lately and worry that this may be a new trend at Habitat. Fingers crossed that this will work itself out and may just be a bad bunch of staff. "

  • "Hi - We had an enjoyable meal after getting off to a rocky start service wise. Our server was so occupied w/ a large table that we sat for what seemed like 15 minutes waiting to order drinks. Finally my husband went to the hostess stand and demanded that they assign a different waiter. The manager got our drinks and comp'd them. Great place, but all tables were at about 1 1/2 hour dinner pace. Good local steak, great dessert. "

Appetizers were wonderful -- house-made naan and mushroom risotto shared by the table, and our salads and entrees were outstanding -- two had filet, one had chicken, and one had Scottish salmon. All were exceptional. The avocado, cucumber and romaine salad with olive oil and lemon was delicious. Look forward to returning soon!"
