Good for Groups
First time there. Server Steven
Was very pleasant and made our experience a great one."

We always come here for lunch on
Mon or Tue. Our favorite for lunch is the Meat Lovers.. Today we order different and we both concluded we will never order it again.. Meat don't taste anything, maybe we are not use to it."
Dined on 3/3/2014
We took my daughter here for her
17th birthday and it was a little something different as you cook your meat at the table...we all enjoyed it."
Dined on 11/21/2013
The waiter could have checked up
on us at least once or twice! It wasn't even busy nor short staffed! Too much personal convo going on while they should be checking on their tables!!!!!!"

Great place for lunch and dinner!
It's my new dining spot that I can't get enough of. If my friend would have never suggested this place I would have never looked twice at this restaurant. The happy hour is great! The menu selections are small HOWEVER, you do get filled up on them. The dining experience teaches diners to enjoy their food and experience the taste rather than just inhale it all down. Truly love this love! Although I would say the bathroom bed a bit of upgrading."
Dined on 2/17/2014
Service was lacking. After being
sat by the hostess, we weren't acknowledged by a server for over five minutes."
Dined on 2/15/2014
The idea of cooking for yourself
was kind of an unusual concept but I've gotta say it mad for a very fun and different dinner. The service was excellent, we were attended to immediately and consistently throughout the night. Definitely will return and with friends."
Dined on 2/14/2014
You definitely need reservations.
This place is very small and gets packed very quickly. I made my reservation on OpenTable in the parking lot. And we still ended up waiting about 30 minutes to be seated. It was only two of us. The tables are very small and not big enough for all the food & meat they bring you. Overall we had a great experience and I would definitely go back. I wish they had a better way of identifying the Meat!"
Dined on 10/5/2013
This is a amazing place, the food
and experience is great, and the price is very affordable I fed 8 people for under $150 including drinks"
Dined on 2/13/2014
I would have gave 5 stars for all
the categories but the price does not match the food. EVERYTHING is overpriced for the amount served. I would go a lot more but spending $60 per person forces me to go maybe once every few months. Overall the food tastes great and the service was good"
Dined on 2/7/2014
This is one of the best
restaurants I've ever been to. I come here for the happy hours and almost all special occasions."
Dined on 2/3/2014
I went with my co-workers (11
people) for the Dine LA lunch deal. Being a work day, we'd hoped to be in & out in about an hour. The whole lunch took 2 hours. For a pre-fixe menu and the fact that we cook our own food, it took forever for things to come out. The food was pretty good as expected, but the service was slow for a lunch crowd at about 50% guest capacity. I wouldn't go back unless I had time to kill."
Dined on 1/30/2014
Take it from me...On their menu it
clears says, "Must Try!!!" or "#1" and you have to try it. Their noodles are amazing. The quality of beef is phenomenal. I recommend making reservations because it gets super busy and their wait time is very long."
Dined on 1/25/2014
It seems like there are great
specials all the time. Guy-kaku is a franchise and there are alight variations at all the locations. The one is Torrance is the homiest of all the SoCal venues. Great service and same food as all the others. The difference is the simple friendliness and authenticity of staff. Doesn't have all the huge menu selections like the others but you don't need it."
Dined on 1/24/2014
We share with our friends all the
time and we always tell them how delicious are the food"
Dined on 1/21/2014
Food & service are pretty good.
Only problem for us --marinated sauce are salty."
Dined on 1/18/2014
Our 2nd time here. Ahi poke
appetizer was a bit saltier than first time. We cooked garlic shrimp, bacon scallops (his fave), miso butterfish (my fave), and marinated skirt steak (both our faves). Sapporo light is now my fave, too."
Dined on 1/14/2014
The portion was less than normal.
We made reservation but we didn't get a better seat."
Dined on 1/13/2014
We come quite often but this trip
was odd. They closed at 9. We had gum smeared on the wall next to us. Was a bit gross to look at every time I took a bite of food. They forgot our rice. Could be it was being cooked. Just felt like we had to rush since they closed early. Wish there was some sort of info saying so we would hAve come earlier. Also asked for a booth and they had plenty available and was sat in the middle of the restaurant next to other people under the air. So was a bit cold. Won't stop me from coming back but was just a bit disappointed."
Dined on 1/8/2014
The food was great and customer
service was good. Servers are very friendly."
Dined on 1/8/2014
The waiter was real short, he
would leave before we got a chance to finish ordering something, usually if a restaurant is out of something there would be a slight warning we got no warning, so of course if you ordered something like a spicy tuna volcano and told it wasn't available you'd be a little disappointed, not bad because it's just one thing right?!? Wrong! I tried to get a order of Gyoza and guess what happened they were out of that too, so you could see why my frustration with the restaurant is growing. It was a number of other items that weren't available either and to think it was only a Monday during daytime happy hour."
Dined on 1/6/2014
I visited Gyu - Kaku for the first
time when my best friend came into town. We had both heard great reviews from a number of friends and decided we would try it. We were sure glad we did. We ordered one of the combos that the restaurant offers and I would suggest for first time diners because you get a little bit of everything and if you are anything like me the first time I visit a new restaurant I love to try a few dishes to get a feel for the place. Everything was so tasty and cooking your own food is always a fun dining experience especially when catching up with friends and family. But I would suggest catching the happy hour it has great prices for both food and drinks if you are watching your wallet."

Our waiter was horrible. Terrrible
service. they have to improve on their service and time it takes to get food out."
Dined on 1/5/2014
Several issues bothered me with my
GYU dinning experience. When I initially arrived at the restaurant my online reservation was not immediately honored. I had to wait 10 minutes before I was seated. The next issue was with the table I was given. It was near the very back of the restaurant and close to where the wait staff goes in and out of the kitchen. This turned out to be extremely unpleasant in that during my entire meal I had to watch the wait staff and bus boys dumping trash into trash cans. To me, it would should be quite clear that the location of this particular table is totally unsuitable for patrons of the restaurant. Finally, It was almost 10 minutes after I was seated that a waiter came to my table to take my order."

Nice place to hang out with
friends and enjoy a meal together. Don't miss their extended happy hours specials."
Dined on 1/3/2014
I've been to the guy-kaku in NYC
several times, and comparatively this was a little bit of a disappointment. The menu had significantly less items, but all the food is tasty. I came with two others and we enjoyed our meals."

Annual Dinner with close friends,
waiter instantly recognized us as his regulars. Great Time, Great Food, Great Service! Must try the new Lobster Nuggets and loved the groups course deals they had. Totally worked out for us!"
Dined on 12/22/2013
bargain lunch deals. Cook leaner
meats last; fattier meats cookde first help keep the grill oiled. Will try more seafood next time since they're even leaner. Soon after starting cooking, turn down flame to avoid burning meats."
Dined on 12/21/2013
This restaurant was too noisy for
us, music was not relaxing for a "cook yourself" experience, too loud and nervous. Food was good. Was not impressed with the Wagyue Beef, not tender nor tasty" why does it need the cheese? Service was excellent. Would have enjoyed it much better if the noise level was not so loud. Music would be good for a bar not a restaurant. Probably would not return."

It was my husband first time to
Gya-Kaku in Torrance. Our service was outstanding. We went for happy hour and I ordered up lychee martini which was very good. Great prices at happy hour. We ordered the meat lover platter. We had fun B.B.Q together. Our experience with dinner was great. It was all yummy! We will definitely be back."
Dined on 12/13/2013
I seriously love this place. Food
is always great. 1.50$ saporos or 7 $ for the pitcher cant be beat. Did some sake bombz for the first time. Ima probably be coming here at least twice a month for life."

we had a training waitress. the
service was good, but she wasnt very comfortable. just typical learning curve and getting comfortable serving. she got better as the night went on. overall a nice dinner. food was good as always."

The food was absolutely delicious.
Very attentive servers, prices were awesome. My new place to go"

This was my second time at this
restaurant and the food is really good"
Dined on 12/6/2013
Went here for Thanksgiving the
food was amazing that consisted of quality meats and side dishes. The service from our server was absolutely amazing. He was attentive and made every effort to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and even took the extra time to teach us some of the rules on cooking the foods. Being a prior waiter myself I know all the things that a waiter is suppose to do in order for me to grade them on a job well done and guess what the waiter we had did just that. The staff is friendly and when the server was not there to assist us the staff checked on our table to see if we needed anything. Its rare to go into a restaurant were you walk out completely satisfied with the food and service."
Dined on 11/28/2013
We have been here a few times and
we always bring a newbie! Our group gets bigger every time we go."
Dined on 11/22/2013
In my opinion, Japanese restaurant
usually serve high quality of foods but "Gyu-kaku" was okay.. Not too bad. Especially the rice was hard and old I thought."
Dined on 11/10/2013
This restaurant is a great play to
go with anybody. Single, couples, or groups, they are happy to serve anybody. The atmosphere is great and everybody is super friendly. They always have specials going on and happy hour almost all the time. Prices are great especially if someone is on a budget. This is one of my favorite restaurants And every time I bring someone new it turns out to be their as well by the end of the evening."

I was not expecting much from a
strip mall establishment but was quite surprised & enjoyed the overall experience. It was suggested by my date and turned out to be a good find. I was greeted promptly as i walked in the door, my reservation was checked & was seated promptly within 5 minutes :)... The food was all brought out for us to cook at our leisure and it was an enjoyable evening. The service was always there with a smile and any need we did have. Rosie, I believe was her name.. The only downside was the loud birthday songs but there were a few groups so whaddya gonna do.. Great food, reasonable prices..nice find :)"
Dined on 10/28/2013
We went on a Saturday night with
our 5-year old for a fun family dinner, and Gyu-Kaku did not disappoint! Friendly staff, good food, and fun cooking as a family over the wood fired grill. I definitely recommend getting the combination dinners and sharing -- not a big fan of the fried foods they serve, but the salad, meats and other items were very tasty. Go for Happy Hour, when the prices are even better, even on weekends."
