  • "The food is fresh and the meat is tender. The lunch specials save you a ton! Try the garlic fried chicken appetizer; it's the best!"

  • "It's fun to try new things and here it's easy. They have great prices and happy hour is almost all day. I will be coming back!"

  • "I've been going here since the menu was ALL you can eat $22 to $6 for 1 low end meat selection. Turn off by price/meat choice especially on Fri/Sat. It's getting very limited w/ the meat choices for a reasonable price. I'm better off eating at a steak house like outback for the price/size than 2-3 pieces of meats @$13+ with limited choice. Bento set pricing are for carbs, salad, soup, with additional cost for $2 adds for veggies/fried appetizers than bbq meat of your selection. Service was good - attentive. Too bad for constant menu changes that take away meat selection choices."

  • "My boyfriend and just celebrated our 3 year anniversary at Gyu-Kaku. He LOVES BBQ and seafood so this seemed like a good place. I have been to the Kailua location on O'ahu so I knew the food to be good, but wasn't sure of its California chain. Toward the end of dinner he said, "This was the best overall dining experience I've had in a long time." In my reservation, I asked for a private booth. We received a phone call reminder the day of. Arrived five minutes before and we're given a table right next to the kitchen which was PERFECT because our table didn't face others and offered intamicay. Staff constantly checked in and greeted as they passed which was fun. Simple, but tasteful decor which gave great ambience. We give four thumbs up."

  • "This is not a place if you want an intimate, relaxing dinner. Mostly frequented by the younger crowd who drink too much and get too rowdy. Otherwise food is good. A little expensive if not for the specials. I recommend early dinner before 6 or late after 9. Otherwise, it's a fun place to go for special occasions."

  • "This place never disappoints! The value BBQ courses are a great deal for a few people, especially if you all want to try a few new things. Happy hour is always packed but prices and quality are awesome!"

  • "Waiter was too busy to take care of our additional order, first he said no fried food is available (we were there at 1pm)Yet, we saw he served another table with fried calamari. We approached him again, he then took our order, yet our fried calamari did not ever come. So, we cancelled it and left."

  • "I go to gyu kaku in torrance and i usually get good service. But this time the waiter was not attentive and had me waiting a long time to order and never came back to check to see how i was doing."

  • "I had a late 10:00 reservation. I didn't know the place closed at 11:00. I felt rushed and the staff rudely cleaned up around the my table. They never even said "excuse me" or "would you like me to take the plates out of your way?". If the late night service is going to be rushed, they shouldn't allow late reservations."

  • "Thought it was bottom list but they ran out kind of was upsetting"

  • "Gyu-Kaku never ceases to amaze me with their savory choices of meat, noodles, DRINKS, and appetizers galore. Every time I go, I must get their garlic noodles fried to perfection as well as their top tier of meat. The servers always check in regularly and they're eager to fill up your empty glasses. Happy Hour is the best time to go since their prices are more reasonable."

  • "First time there. Server Steven Was very pleasant and made our experience a great one."

  • "We always come here for lunch on Mon or Tue. Our favorite for lunch is the Meat Lovers.. Today we order different and we both concluded we will never order it again.. Meat don't taste anything, maybe we are not use to it."

  • "We took my daughter here for her 17th birthday and it was a little something different as you cook your meat at the table...we all enjoyed it."

  • "The waiter could have checked up on us at least once or twice! It wasn't even busy nor short staffed! Too much personal convo going on while they should be checking on their tables!!!!!!"

  • "Great place for lunch and dinner! It's my new dining spot that I can't get enough of. If my friend would have never suggested this place I would have never looked twice at this restaurant. The happy hour is great! The menu selections are small HOWEVER, you do get filled up on them. The dining experience teaches diners to enjoy their food and experience the taste rather than just inhale it all down. Truly love this love! Although I would say the bathroom bed a bit of upgrading."

  • "Service was lacking. After being sat by the hostess, we weren't acknowledged by a server for over five minutes."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "The idea of cooking for yourself was kind of an unusual concept but I've gotta say it mad for a very fun and different dinner. The service was excellent, we were attended to immediately and consistently throughout the night. Definitely will return and with friends."

  • "You definitely need reservations. This place is very small and gets packed very quickly. I made my reservation on OpenTable in the parking lot. And we still ended up waiting about 30 minutes to be seated. It was only two of us. The tables are very small and not big enough for all the food & meat they bring you. Overall we had a great experience and I would definitely go back. I wish they had a better way of identifying the Meat!"

  • "This is a amazing place, the food and experience is great, and the price is very affordable I fed 8 people for under $150 including drinks"
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "I would have gave 5 stars for all the categories but the price does not match the food. EVERYTHING is overpriced for the amount served. I would go a lot more but spending $60 per person forces me to go maybe once every few months. Overall the food tastes great and the service was good"

  • "This is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. I come here for the happy hours and almost all special occasions."

  • "I went with my co-workers (11 people) for the Dine LA lunch deal. Being a work day, we'd hoped to be in & out in about an hour. The whole lunch took 2 hours. For a pre-fixe menu and the fact that we cook our own food, it took forever for things to come out. The food was pretty good as expected, but the service was slow for a lunch crowd at about 50% guest capacity. I wouldn't go back unless I had time to kill."

  • "Take it from me...On their menu it clears says, "Must Try!!!" or "#1" and you have to try it. Their noodles are amazing. The quality of beef is phenomenal. I recommend making reservations because it gets super busy and their wait time is very long."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "It seems like there are great specials all the time. Guy-kaku is a franchise and there are alight variations at all the locations. The one is Torrance is the homiest of all the SoCal venues. Great service and same food as all the others. The difference is the simple friendliness and authenticity of staff. Doesn't have all the huge menu selections like the others but you don't need it."

  • "We share with our friends all the time and we always tell them how delicious are the food"

  • "Food & service are pretty good. Only problem for us --marinated sauce are salty."

  • "Our 2nd time here. Ahi poke appetizer was a bit saltier than first time. We cooked garlic shrimp, bacon scallops (his fave), miso butterfish (my fave), and marinated skirt steak (both our faves). Sapporo light is now my fave, too."

  • "The portion was less than normal. We made reservation but we didn't get a better seat."

  • "We come quite often but this trip was odd. They closed at 9. We had gum smeared on the wall next to us. Was a bit gross to look at every time I took a bite of food. They forgot our rice. Could be it was being cooked. Just felt like we had to rush since they closed early. Wish there was some sort of info saying so we would hAve come earlier. Also asked for a booth and they had plenty available and was sat in the middle of the restaurant next to other people under the air. So was a bit cold. Won't stop me from coming back but was just a bit disappointed."

  • "The food was great and customer service was good. Servers are very friendly."

  • "The waiter was real short, he would leave before we got a chance to finish ordering something, usually if a restaurant is out of something there would be a slight warning we got no warning, so of course if you ordered something like a spicy tuna volcano and told it wasn't available you'd be a little disappointed, not bad because it's just one thing right?!? Wrong! I tried to get a order of Gyoza and guess what happened they were out of that too, so you could see why my frustration with the restaurant is growing. It was a number of other items that weren't available either and to think it was only a Monday during daytime happy hour."

  • "I visited Gyu - Kaku for the first time when my best friend came into town. We had both heard great reviews from a number of friends and decided we would try it. We were sure glad we did. We ordered one of the combos that the restaurant offers and I would suggest for first time diners because you get a little bit of everything and if you are anything like me the first time I visit a new restaurant I love to try a few dishes to get a feel for the place. Everything was so tasty and cooking your own food is always a fun dining experience especially when catching up with friends and family. But I would suggest catching the happy hour it has great prices for both food and drinks if you are watching your wallet."

  • "Several issues bothered me with my GYU dinning experience. When I initially arrived at the restaurant my online reservation was not immediately honored. I had to wait 10 minutes before I was seated. The next issue was with the table I was given. It was near the very back of the restaurant and close to where the wait staff goes in and out of the kitchen. This turned out to be extremely unpleasant in that during my entire meal I had to watch the wait staff and bus boys dumping trash into trash cans. To me, it would should be quite clear that the location of this particular table is totally unsuitable for patrons of the restaurant. Finally, It was almost 10 minutes after I was seated that a waiter came to my table to take my order."

  • "I've been to the guy-kaku in NYC several times, and comparatively this was a little bit of a disappointment. The menu had significantly less items, but all the food is tasty. I came with two others and we enjoyed our meals."

  • "bargain lunch deals. Cook leaner meats last; fattier meats cookde first help keep the grill oiled. Will try more seafood next time since they're even leaner. Soon after starting cooking, turn down flame to avoid burning meats."
