Diner Reviews
  • "We bought the 39.99 dinner for two. Food was very good. We could have easily fed 3 people. Wish they had a light eaters menu for a little less money. Perhaps they could offer a 30.00 for two with less food."

  • "the all day happy hour on monday is a steal! make sure to check out the happy hour combo. Food is great and staff are awesome!"

  • "Happy hour prices for the quality of food cannot be beat."

  • "Love the consistent quality of Gyu Kaku, but our server was often nowhere to be found and held us up"

  • "Outstanding restaurant with great food. Nobu and Rosey are wonderful servers."

  • "I been going to this place for years, but ever since they change owners the quality is not the same. Food is still good though, but they do not use the coals anymore, they don't have bibimba and the music level and choice is terrible and very very noisy."
    Dined on 8/8/2014
  • "The waitress left lots of dirty plates at our table, got our order incorrect and overcharged us. The prices are high with very small portions. I was still hungry and I was very disappointed."

  • "it's a good dining experience for couples... and even friends... great selection of food... plus it's something new..."

  • "I took my family to celebrate my wife's birthday. Mentioned it in the comments field when I made the reservation through OpenTable as well as to the person managing the seating at the restaurant. Nothing happened. I even brought a candle and some matches but at the end of the meal, all we got was the check. It was very embarrassing for me and my children and probably disappointing for my wife although she was quite graceful about it. Our party of 5 got the worst table in the restaurant - right outside the bathrooms and in front of the servers station where they enter orders and place dirty dishes. Gyu-Kaku gets 2 stars for the meat which was ok but this is a restaurant where we cook it ourselves. We will NOT be going back."

  • "I've been to different Gyu-Kaku restaurants, and they're all different because some may be franchisees. However, the quality of the food is almost always excellent. The ambiance here is fine, but there are some others that are plus or minus. I give this Gyu-Kaku a "Good" rating."

  • "Had a wonderful time. Waitress are very helpful and friendly. Lot of food choices. Good for happy hour."

  • "They don't have 1 of my favorite miso Yaki shabu.. this time..hopefully next Tues they have it."
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "For the second or third time already, the draft beer was not working. It is the beer special and the tap is out of order.... AGAIN! Is this a business strategy or just consistently bad managing? Especially with the beer special, at least have a backup plan for that. It makes no sense to not have a backup. Service is always top notch and food is always consistently good. Just need to do something about that beer issue."

  • "This is a great place to get together and try your hand at tableside cooking. The food selections are great and allows you to sample different meats for a great price. If this is your first visit and you make it for happy hour, try one of the sample menus. It is worth the price and gives you a great variety. Also, the drinks and beer aren't bad either."

  • "The food tastes good here, but you don't get very much for your money, even for dineLA."

  • "It was our first time here. Now that we understand the menu options we will be back. The food was good."

  • "This place falls short of the average bbq in Koreatown, by a wide margin -- from meat to veggies, less interesting! And the service was lousy. We ordered green tea, the waiter refilled with coffee and then insisted it was just "different" green tea. We returned it and received no replacement. Not recommended."

  • "food is okay but not super fancy and high quality. the atmosphere is good for a happy hour after work"

  • "I enjoyed Gyu-Kaku immensely. I was constantly hearing how great it was from my friends and I decided it was time to try it out. I strongly recommend making reservations as they will turn people away if they are too busy. Our waiters were on top of it constantly refilling our drinks, asking if we were OK and etc. We went with the meat lovers special and we weren't disappointed and we ordered a few others we were curious about. It's recommended to get about 2-3 plates per person. Overall it was a great dining experience and I would do it again. They have great happy hour specials of you can reserve yourself a table during those times. A fair warning though, its on the louder end and pricer than other places similar. But its worth it!! :D Go!"

  • "I've never actually had Japanese BBQ before but I'm glad that I came to Gyu Kaku to try it for the first time! Came with two other girls & we ended up ordering the happy hour meal for 2 (smallest one/$40) & it was perfect for the three of us! We all ended up being really full & they even gave us 3 sets of smores for dessert even though only 2 is usually given. The quality of the meat was V-E-R-Y good! The server also informed us of the grilling times for each meat & was very attentive. I also ordered a lychee saketini because it was happy hour ($3, marked down from $5) & it was ok, but I wont be getting it again. The experience there was awesome & I can't wait to bring my other family/friends back to try this!"

  • "I was canceled aoutomatically afetr 15 min. I was late because it was first time to be there. And I was at a loss at the mall. I took a few time to find Gyu-Kaku. I was made to be wait for 20 min. And Beef was worse than it is in Japan."

  • "Great experience, always good food. Happy hour is good but still pricey and less food. Overall was ok"

  • "Service was very good, food was special, and difference from other BBQ place. But price is a bit high. Look up the Gen BBQ is coming ($19.99) all you can eat!!!"

  • "Been here many times...always good! Never changes, which is good. Overall it is good. Get it? Got it? Good! haha"

  • "Gyu Kaku has the best happy hour. Cheap beers and awesome food for half the price you'll find elsewhere. The two person meal deal was a ton of food and everything was fantastic."

  • "The new happy hour full course meal is amazing! It is recommended for two but it can easily feed three."

  • "When i reserved on Open table i requested a 2 person booth. i am a Heavy set person. and we got a table with 4 pull out chairs. i like this place to go drink and snack for an hour and then eat. The pull out chairs are not confortable so after 30 minutes i have to do a walk around. i love this place but i dont like the chairs."
    Dined on 6/11/2014
  • "The ahi poke has gotten a bit too spicy and there was no brown rice this night, but everything else was just great!"
    Dined on 6/11/2014
  • "For two people, you can get their deal with the dinner course that comes with appetizers, meat and desserts. Mondays are all day happy hour and I would suggest to make a reservation if you are trying to catch dinner or their drinks. They no longer have the all you can eat purchase, but their courses for the amount of people you have, you'll get full for sure. If you made a reservation through OpenTable, make sure to be there before the time because your reservation will no longer work after the time you've made."

  • "Service is key in a dining experience. The food can be great but leave a bad taste if your not taken care of, rest assured Gyu kaku in Torrance has the friendliest staff ever! Amazing prices & always a good time. Ps they don't have a late night happy hour anymore :("

  • "We ordered the duck breast, spicy pork, shrimp, and chicken. Chicken would say was the least favorite; however all other items were amazing! Also ordered the ramen which was delicious"

  • "Very good selection of items to choose from. Excellent service. Will definitely go back."

  • "There was a lot of food for the meat lovers course. There were 3 adults and 2 young teens in our group and the 4 people meat lovers course filled us up. The service was great. The food kept coming and empty plates were removed from table quickly. The Gyu-Kaku salad was fresh and had delicious dressing. Make sure you make a reservation otherwise it may be tough to get a table there. We were seated right away for our 6:30 reservation. They have a great ventilation system considering we were grilling at our table and we did not retain any food odors on our clothing afterwards. We all enjoyed eating there."
