Diner Reviews
  • "Food was great as it always is, service at table was good with Bar glitches but taken care of. BUT the service to get seated from time of check in was over the top BAD approx 25 minutes waiting while walk ups were ushered right in after a few minutes"

  • "Our server had the worst attitude and ruined the whole time for me. This was my third time at this restaurant and they can get packed during happy hour. That being said, I've had slow service before but never downright rude service like I had the other night. Our server didn't even take our drink order for ~20 minutes. She didn't say hi, welcome, turn on the grill, or anything. When she took our order she literally said "what do you want", wrote it down, then walked away with attitude...the absolute worst. I'm not coming back for a long time."

  • "We appreciate how we can always feast on meat, and it's never expensive during happy hour. Great specials."

  • "This was my first time at this location. It will probably be my last. The food was delicious, but was overshadowed by the terrible service. When we were seated, my husband mentioned to the hostess that there were still crumbs from the last diners on the booth and the table. She didn't even apologize or wipe them off, just smiled and walked away. It took about 10 minutes before we saw someone willing to take our drink order. The beers were served warm, just the way we like them. Not. The food was fine but when I used the restroom, there were no seat covers, no toilet paper, no paper towels, and no soap. Then there was no one at the front for me to tell so they could fix it. Good thing we like the Beverly Hills location! Far better!"

  • "Great food. My son love to bbq "I love the relaxed feel of this place. I definitely would return to try my favourate dishes. The garlic chicken noodles was amazing and the BBQ chicken was refreshing. The table has own bbq to cook. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.""

  • "playing techno music at this japanese restaurant - it was very strange choice of music for this type of place. distracting and didn't compliment dining experience. otherwise no complaints."

  • "What can I say, we went here for my son's 21st birthday and it was so delicious. I was dubious, because it was in the mall, but the server was great, described to us how to cook on the grill and what to do, and made a starter recommendation that allowed us to sample many things, which we loved. I'd definitely go again, the food was delicious!"

  • "I've been eating to many times that i lost count. Service is wonderful as always. Food is great. It's my girlfriend and i favorite spot to kick back. I do recommend this place to any couple out there. It's nice to just show up drink and cook up dinner together in an open restaurant. Everything you need is there."

  • "I should have know better than to eat at a mall restaurant. The restaurant was noisy and the food uninspired. I cannot complain about the cooking, since we did it ourselves; however, the heat from the BBQ was unpleasant most of the time."

  • "My kids loves this restaurant because they can play chef and actually cook the food. Our server Skye was awesome. He did a superb job."

  • "Gyu Kaku has some great deals for weekdays and happy hour! We were very full by the time we left and our bill was under $40 including a giant happy hour beer. So great! Some items are super tasty - hanger steak, yakishabu, garlic edamame and spicy tuna volcano... Some were ok but not my favorite - the bacon wrapped asparagus wasn't fab and the ny steak wasn't marinaded well. But the meal was overall a very satisfying treat!"

  • "I went with my girlfriend for the late night happy hour specials. The food is very good, and you can't beat the prices for beer! This was my second time visiting this location and both of my experiences have been great. Our server was very friendly and entertaining. I would highly recommend this place for a date night or to go with a group of friends. It's fun!"

  • "We loved the food, so tasty, and it was fun cooking it ourselves over the fire. Our waiter was very attentive and well-informed. Prices were great and happy hour specials sound amazing! The ambience there is the only thing lacking. It has very high ceilings and bright lighting, even at dinner time, and the music was loud techno. It felt a little bit like dining in a warehouse, and everyone's conversation echoed off the walls, and we could hear people loudly from the mall itself as well. It would have been much more enjoyable if the lighting was lower and more intimate and the music softer and more fitting the day (we went on Christmas Eve.) The ambience at the Sherman Oaks location is much more enjoyable."

  • "When my sister shops at the mall she and her daughter stop by Gyu-Kaku to relax. We thought it would be a good surprise to bring her in during the evening. My niece wanted to pay and the prices are reasonable. My sister was happy my niece was excited that she could pay for the whole group. And by the way we were all stuffed and the bill for six of us was only $70.00. We all left happy and full! We will go back again soon!"

  • "I made a reservation and arrived on time. yet I had to wait 20minutes to be seated. after 10 minutes of waiting- I asked what's going on with my reservation. the host said they're cleaning the table soon. which meant there was no reserved seats- at the time it was allotted for. reservation 8:45pm. seated 9:05 pm"

  • "The grill is too small for a large group. We had five people in our group & it took forever to get the food cooked. For 2 or 3 people it would be great. I felt it was a bit high priced also. The food I enjoyed the most was the food that was already cooked (appetizers, salad). I think the veggies should have some oil or something on them so they cook better. It was fun because I was with a bunch of girlfriends but I don't think I would go there too often."

  • "My husband, son, and I came here on a Monday night. We ordered the $39.95 course meal for two, which was more than enough for us. All the meats were marinated very well that allowed for a great taste after it was barbequed. Also, the meal came with smores for dessert. Too bad we weren't able to change the dessert. The only other option was to order another dessert. Overall, I will come here again when I feel like eating a grand hearty meal."
