Diner Reviews
  • "This is a great place to eat but please note do not order the meal for 6 because it takes wayyyyyy too long to cook all the meat you get on one tiny grill. We were there over two hours long after we were full just to finish cooking the meat to take home. This place is great for a party of two but not a large group."

  • "We were placed in the room separate from the open area of the restaurant. The room was extremely hot and we were placed in the corner where we were ignored. We noticed the table in front of us was repeatedly empty because all who were sat there couldn't stand how hot the room was. We had to go look for our waitress to get service and refills on our drinks. One instance it took out waitress 15 minutes to bring out refill. We have been to Gyu a Kaku before but we had never had this awful service."

  • "I absolutely love coming here! I've been here 3 times now in 1 month!! The 1st & last time we got the same lady who took our order and she is absolutely the best! Very sweet & friendly. I feel bad about not remembering her name, (blame it on the delicious Saki!, lol). All 3 times she's helped us, we've sat right behind the reception area, this last time it was party of 4 @ 7:30. If you were our waiter, thank you! You were awesome! We'll be back soon :)"

  • "The food was ok but the service was poor. The waitress never brought either of my children's rice she brought our veggies an hour before our meat even came. Took her a long time to refill my drink then when I looked over our bill she had charged us full price for certain items even tho it was happy hour. I had them fix it and ended up getting our smores for free but wasn't happy w service and there food isn't the same as it once was. All in all wasn't happy w it at all."

  • "I can't believe it has taken me this long to discover this awesome restaurant! My family and I had an excellent time here. The food was super good and plenty! My Son who is a meat lover, had one of the best times eating here. Prices are very reasonable and the Happy Hour prices are even better! :)"

  • "The service was very slow , our waiter forgot many items. We are regulars here so this was a one time mishap , will still come back."

  • "The food is great! Everything comes pretty quickly and it's up to you to mess it up. It's easy to cook your own food. They have instructions for you in case you're a newbie, but since I cook at home a lot, it was a cinch."

  • "We had heard that this was a great place, but upon arrival the bar service was slow, the floor and tables were sticky, trash in the aisles and on floor, and the bathrooms had grafitti on it. It was a novel place, but we won't be returning. Yuck."

  • "The place is great to eat. The food definitely gets me to come back. The service is usually a hit and miss. You never know if you get a good server but it's the food that reels you in."

  • "The food was good, kind of noisey. It's a good spot for couples. My party had six and food took forever to cook, half of my party was starving waiting for their turn to cook. Service was HORRIBLE!!!!! Our waiter forgot about us 80% of the time, they ran out of beer mugs, I would not return."

  • "Made a reservation for 2 at 8:30pm. Showed up on time, but added 2 more to the list. I advised Cathee (the hostess) of the addition. In a condescending tone, she asked if the entire party was present. I responded, yes. Then she says that my name will be called in a few minutes. We advised them that we will be waiting at the bar, (which is 5 steps away). 20 min later, I check in with her. Apparently, she called my name but I didn't respond, so our place in line was skipped. She leaves, and another hostess steps up. I ask her if my name was called and she stated that it was never called and that we will be seated shortly. Other than that, our server was great! Food was good too. Too bad Cathee almost ruined it for us."

  • "Love this place as always. My only wish that day was that in there "packed/booked reservations," that they could have accommodated the addition of 2 more people. They weren't even packed at all, plenty of space available when we dined."

  • "I go here at least a couple times a month. Food is good. Service isn't bad. Bar is always busy and happy hour specials can't be beat."

  • "Gyu-Kaku is a unique diniing experience if your looking to get out of the same restaurant routine. You will grill your own food, with many meats and fish. Don't forget to order your Smores ! Great happy hour too..."

  • "Took my 20 something kids and friends here for a birthday celebration-we had a great time! Happened to be there after 9pm for their happy hour prices, which are very reasonable. We ordered a "package" recommended for 2 and had plenty for 4. All in all, a great night! Look to the "recommended" items-there for a reason!"

  • "This was my second time going to Gyu-Kaku and it won't be the last! Service is equally as important as the food and both my boyfriend and I were extremely impressed. Our waitress was informative and very attentive. Our drinks were never empty! Overall it was a great dining experience and I have already recommended this restaurant to several friends and family members. "

  • "I have a 10yr old daughter and a 8yr old son they enjoyed their time at the restaurant so much that's all they talked about for two days. The food was AMAZING and the kids enjoyed cooking for their mom on mothers day. "

  • "I had a reservation for 11:15am on Mother's Day. Party of 4 checked in at 11am. They did not seat us until 11:17. They sat everyone else that did not have a reservation before us, in other words, the walk ins were already sitting down with drinks before we got to our table. "

  • "My mom and 10-year-old daughter loved it. Cooking your own food on a tiny grill was a blast for her. Beware though; all those small orders add up fast! Even during happy-hour. "

  • "food was great, but service was definitely lacking this time (it's my 2nd time eating here). the server forgot about our other meats (we got the happy hour course) and miso soups until the end, when we were about to pay and some of the dishes were already collected. will definitely come back again though. wait wasn't long at all because we made reservations online an hour beforehand. my bf and his bros recommend the chicken garlic noodles."

  • "We were seated quickly after checking in. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Food was great and well worth the price even though they no longer have all you can eat."

  • "My bf & I are originally from the SoBay and we frequent the Torrance location. We've recently relocated to the IE & we were craving one of our favorite spots, Gyu! We figured it was time to try the Rancho location, so glad we did. I seriously didn't think it could get any better than what we were used to but the flavors here are so much better than Torrance. And they have a bigger drink menu, always a +. =) We'll be back!"

  • "Food was delicious! We did the happy hour course for two people and there were 5 of us, but we had more than enough food to feed all of us. Especially loved the fried rice, salad, and spinach packet. "

  • "Food is always good but service is off at the beginning because nobody come to take a drink or food order. After 5-7 minutes I need to go tell the host that nobody come to take us drink order yet. After that service was just fine."

  • "Our party of six went there to celebrate two birthdays. One birthday celebrant was a bit late due to wheelchair challenges, but the staff was accommodating and very gracious about it. Our server, Marissa, was informative, cheerful, and very attentive. She explained things to us and answered all of our questions to our satisfaction. The spicy edamame and fried calamari appetizers were both good. We arrived during Happy Hour, so we were able to take advantage of some special pricing on both appetizers and entrees. There were three couples, and we all ordered the same Happy Hour dinner special for two for just under $40. It ended up being way too much food for us. Two orders may have been just right. It was a good dining experience."

  • "We made reservations with baby stroller accommodations ......and of course as soon as we get there we get attitude about possibly not being able to accommodate as we asked by the hostess which was very rude....then she called the manager thinking she would be pleasant and fix this, she also came at us with the same thing. After making it an unpleasant arrival in the beginning they finally were able to accommodate us....instead of making it a full pleasant experience, it was not they need to work on customer service...."

  • "Awesome prices on Beer! Sapporo 34oz $4.50 during Happy Hour, which is 75% of the time! Grill your own meet, as rare or well done as you want. Great Prices on Hanger Steak, and Toro Beef (Beef Bacon). Bacon Chips were awful though tasted like soft chicharones. You must try the Wasbai Shrimp!"

  • "great Place and you cook your food right there at the table"

  • "I think because the grill is very much in front of you, asking any type of question would be daunting. But, the customer service is great and they make sure your first time with a plate is carefully told of. Fare warning, you might want more than you ordered because the beef is super delicious. On another note, be careful and always make a reservation and arrive 15 prior so you're not waiting too long. It gets poppin at 8PM."

  • "Great food and even greater experience of being with family and friends. Th bbq allows tons of fun. Although my waitress wasn't as attentive as from my previous visits, i cannot rate them low based on one server, especially as I had great service before. ask for Anderson, he's great. I can never wait to go back."

  • "This place has really changed, there's no more all you can eat anything... I starved my boyfriend and myself thinking that it was still the same and it was still ALL YOU CAN EAT, but the meal portions for 2 people felt like the meal portions for that of 2 garden gnomes. All of the servers were "in training" but it's not rocket science to notice when your customer has an empty cup just sitting there and needs a refill... or when your customer looks bored. Or server walked by us and saw that our grill was smoking and didn't do anything, another server saw and said that that shouldn't have happened. Overall, I was really disappointed. It's not as great as it used to be and the noise level is outrageous. I don't plan on going back."

The Sukiaki was already cooked and came in a stone bowl and was one of my favorite dishes , then they brought us a variety of meat to grill and then they were my new favorites ! We will definitely be back and probably become regulars !"

  • "I made reservations stating it was our son's birthday and it wasn't recognized. We let it go..... He's 24 and probably grateful haha. We paid $100 not including drinks tax & tip...for the group rate (there were 5 of us) meat lovers menu. There really should be veggies included ... Instead of so much meat. Very tender & tasty meat! Lots of meat so much meat & we all thought veggies should be included and less meat. Did I mention there was an abundance of meat? 8-) Servers were nice & friendly but the lead talked so fast explaining the menu etc. Our dishes were piling up too. They sat 5 of us at a table for 4 & threw in a chair it was cramped & I sat there & couldn't reach the grill."
