Diner Reviews
  • "Gyu-Kaku is an experience, not just another restaurant. I bring my son often and we enjoy preparing our preseasoned, ready to grill food on the BBQ built into the table. Food is very good and the staff is always kind and friendly. They are more than willing to accommodate any requests you may have if it be splitting the portions, preparing an item a little differently or sitting at a certain table. Every staff member treats you as an important guest and will help you even if you're not one of their specific tables. Will definitely continue to be a frequent patron."

  • "Came with a group of 6 and we were seated in a private room where we had to take our shoes off. They have a deal for dinner during August where Hanger steak is $4, spicy pork is $8, and beer pitchers are $8. The hot oil salmon was good, but the steak was the best for the price. We added some vegetables and free edamame for checking in! Fun night, good prices, and lots of meat!"

  • "Great lunch and happy hour deals though the multiple sets of special menus can get overwhelming and confusing. Servers were friendly and attentive. Food came out pretty quickly and was fresh except for the beef tongue that came out frozen. A little slow paying the bill especially given the fact the place was pretty empty around 3 PM. Still delicious and affordable and had a good time."

  • "A group of us went out to lunch and really enjoyed the food here. We each ordered the power lunch for $12.95 which came with 3 different types of meats, white rice, and salad. It was very filling and I loved their sweet sauce. I Highly recommend coming after 1pm when the lunch crowd has left. Our waitress was very attentive and she changed our grill twice."

  • "I've gone here many times especially if i have to meet up or take very special friends/company...always fun & comfortable while we do the "cook out". Great place to hang out, excellent staff/service, yummy food, good wine, and interesting mix of cocktails. It's always a good dining experience."

  • "I went with some coworkers for lunch. The service was a little slow and they forgot to bring out vegetables until we were done with our meat. The food was very fresh and delicious. This is one of my favorite happy hour places in midtown. We each payed about $15 for a 3 course lunch. Hard to beat that!"

  • "Would have wanted to give them a Very Good overall rating, but the service was bad that I have no choice but to give them an overall rating of Good. It took them 40 minutes to bring our 3 appetizers, and we had to follow-up. Then our server was nowhere to be found....enough said."

  • "Gyu-Kaku is consistently an enjoyable dining experience, but like the cracks in the seats on which we sat (which hurt our legs), some cracks in the typically solid service were starting to show. We did go early this time, in order to take advantage of Happy Hour. It was fairly quiet, uncommonly so and the wait staff seemed not ready to get into the swing of things. Because of this, service was inconsistent this time. When we ordered an extra dish, it took a long time for it to arrive. Then it seemed they wanted to rush us out the door. However, the food was still great, and it was nice that it was a quiet early evening. We'll be back in hopes that we'll get better service next time."

  • "Despite the busy Fourth of July crowd, the service was still perfect and the food delicious as usual!"

  • "Food was good. Priced nicely. Went for the all you can eat on July 4th. All you can eat was for 90 min then we were urged to leave after the 90 min. I didn't like that because we wanted to order something different out of the all you can eat menu and have another drink."

  • "They have a decent happy hour menu selections however most places in the midtown area offers happy hour up until 7pm. Would be nice if they can go with the flow. A majority of my clients are in the lower manhattan area so even if they get off exactly @ 5pm and run up to midtown, they would only be able to get in one happy hour drink which deters them from coming up there at all. Why bother!"

  • "This is the kind of dinning that you will remember. Great happy hour and food menu."

  • "Loved the spicy margarita. The hanger beef was delicious, as was the spinach. The ahi tuna was less exciting, but perhaps I didn't grill it well. It could have used more seasoning, though. Even just salt/pepper. Booths were nice, roomy. Would go back."

  • "the place is vibrant and happy, and the food is fantastic....what a way to bond and spend time with friends while grilling your food...the atmosphere is pleasant, comfortable and relaxing (except for a bunch of noisy, rowdy and loud kids beside our table, who's parents seemed to have vanished). overall i will go back again like i always do."

  • "The food at Gyu-Kaku was tasteless. Seriously---I kept searching for a taste, any taste, and couldn't find one. Not even after adding various sauces. The shrimp had no taste, the scallops had no taste and even the garlic fried rice had no taste. Wait--actually, the mushrooms on the warm mushroom and spinach salad did have a taste, but that was it. Our server and hostess were lovely--no problem there. The noise level is high and annoying, but we could have been ok with it if the food had been good. It was not. We would never return and you should stay away. Very unhappy experience."

  • "We had a nice time at Gyu-Kaku midtown. We had been to the Times Square restaurant a few times but this was our first visit to midtown. The menu was similar (if not the same) and we ordered one of the bundled package deals for 2 (there were 3 of us). We ordered a few additional a la carte items and had plenty to eat. Ofcourse, the smores is a great way to finish the meal!"

  • "Food is very good and it is always funny to cook your food by yourself. Excellent place if you want to have a nice and quick dinner. A little bit noisy and hasty for a dinner with friend where you want to have time to talk. "

  • "Gyu Kaku is a really great experience, as soon as you walk in you get the feeling if being transported to another place. Everyone here is so exceptionally friendly and warm. Now on to the food! Great set ups for groups and they teach you step by step on how to prepare and grill your food. Seasoned to perfection and totally fun! Cocktails are delish! Jenny our waitress but more like our guide into Japanese BBQ was simply amazing!!! Can't wait to come back!"

  • "To start, our server came and explained the menu, cooking instructions, and the restaurant's recommendations for meat and marinade combinations. Our food selections went as followed : BBQ Pork Tacos Chicken in Tare Sweet Soy Marinade Kobe Kalbi Short Ribs in Garlic Marinade Wagyu Beef Garlic Spinach Broccoli and Cheese Asparagus Sukiyaki Bibimbap - Beef Rice The star of the show was the Wagyu Beef. It was pricey, but worth it. The Wagyu Beef is almost a divine experience. The meat literally burst in your mouth with flavor and dissolves in two chews. Search the net for reactions to eating Wagyu Beef and you will better understand. Once you have it, you're hooked. Overall, it was a great experience and my wife can't wait to go back. "
