Diner Reviews
  • "Wonderful experience, great food, you should definitely order the special for 4 people in order to try everything!"

  • "Great spot to eat. Pricing is good but only disappointment was meat can be a little bit better in size. Grill is awesome to you to cook your food."

  • "every time we return to eat at Gyu Kaku, it seems as if the portions are getting smaller and smaller, which means we have to order more to get full.....we always wind up spending more and more...... we always leave hungry.....try Korean BBQ, its cheaper"

  • "Chose the Spring Menu and did not regret it. Every item on it was tasty, portioned just right, and won over my skeptical husband who was raving about the meal and the interactive grilling from the first course. Service was attentive and not suffocating. Sprang for the Nigori Sake at $8/bottle, which was a great milky sake, full of flavor and not very strong. Make a reservation for dinner - at the entrance there were a lot of people standing or sitting on stools at tall bar tables, sipping drinks while waiting for a table."

  • "While this was my second time dining here with reservation, I had to wait half an hour to be able to sit at the table that was reserved for me. The first time I went, my table was ready. Five minutes would've been understandable, but half an hour was too much. The waiting time for the food to arrive was acceptable and the food was just as delicious as the first time."

  • "Great food and ambience. The service and quality of food aren't consistent but its the best Japanese bbq I've had."

  • "Going to Gyu-Kaku happy hour is one of my favorite things. Most of the drinks and food are half price and for the price, the proportions are great. I would definitely recommending this place for a group of people or even an intimate date."

  • "One of my new favorite restaurants in the city. Great for a girls night out or a romantic date night. I also took my friends from our of town and they loved the whole experience of cooking the food yourself! So much fun!"

  • "Upstairs in an office building this is a real treat. The grill your own bbq is fun and the quality of the meat makes it a great meal. Go with a group and share various cuts of beef, etc."

  • "The food is always good and the specials make it even better! Service is fine, but not excellent. Would still recommend to anyone."

  • "the meat in general is very delicious. some thick cut is a bit hard to cook or chew, but in general very good. side dishes are charms. the pot could be easily over heated so keep that in mind."

  • "This is a great place to have fun with friends or just a fun and different place for a date, the overall feel of the place is fun! The food is excellent!!! (as long as you can cook) We will def be going back again."

  • "food is good considering you cook your own food but the service is not good, usually wait long time for waiter to come over , could improve!!"
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "I had a dinner with my girlfriend. Two of us was sat by the window facing the office building...not such scenic view. The meat for the BBQ was paper thin. I don't think I will be back anytime soon. Not too cheap for the quality either. I much rather go to Korean BBQ even if it costs slightly more."
    Dined on 2/24/2014
  • "This was my first time at the restaurant and everything was more than I expected. The prices were more than reasonable and the food was delicious. I would definitely go back and request a window seat next time."

  • "food was excellent service was outstanding the only thing i need to mention is that a waitress gave us a dish and then told us it was not actually on our order, like five minutes later, and took it away when it is cooked..."

  • "I took a chance on Gyu-Kaku for a special Valentine's Day dinner I was hoping to have and I am so glad I did. We were impressed with everything. It was unique in that we got to cook ourselves on the open flamed barbecues they have on every table, we had over 10 servers help us in a timely fashion throughout the evening, and the food was absolutely incredible. We ordered a prix fixe meal and had to order repeats of items we had because they tasted so great. Would definitely recommend for a great romantic spot and we will be back."

  • "I treated my uncle for his birthday and he loved the atmosphere and food. Usually he prefers steakhouses. When he got the birthday hat, cake with candle on cake and a chorus of "Happy Birthday" from the staff, it was icing on the cake. Corny, yes but it felt right at the time."

  • "I love this restaurant, great ambient, very comfortable and we had a great time. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The service was great and the food was excellent!!! Honestly, I have no complaints."

  • "only desert they get from Cake M is great. their set menu is good including desert with reasonable price for group. the meat quality is not so good, that is why the can offer it with that price. I dont know why this place is so papular.....it might be last time for us eating there unfortunately. 2 out of 3 had stomach problem that night after dining, dont know why."

  • "We usually opt to go here during their happy hours which on weekdays are really early or really late but on weekends they have a GREAT almost all day one that falls right during brunch time. Quality meats, excellent sides and yummy desserts. Their drinks are pretty good too so if you're looking to imbibe they've got some great specials. Even their non-alcoholic drinks are tasty! Great place to get your grill on."

  • "Went for a birthday party with 8 people and we all loved the food and had a blast. We ordered a variety of beef cuts and veggies for the grill, as well as kimchi fries, pork buns and rice. It was delicious, service was friendly, and they even brought my friend a candle in green tea cake so we could sing happy birthday. This is a top-notch Japanese bbq spot. I didn't even smell like bbq when I left which made it even better."

  • "Good Japanese rest, food is to be grilled by yourself on the fire in the middle of the table. Nice idea but the rest is really noisy and the staff is not really helpful and nice, they seem to busy. Sides dishes as the rice with shintake mushrooms are delicious."
    Dined on 12/25/2013
  • "This is a restaurant for meat lovers. Their short rib is the best.however, this is not a place for veggie lovers. I hope they could offer more veggie dishes. And also, their dishes tend to be a little bit salty for me."

  • "We have been to gyu numerous times over the past three years, and our last visit left much to be desired. There was a significant difference in the quality of the food and our server was just awful. We won't be returning anytime soon, which is a shame b/c my husband and I use to love this spot."
    Dined on 12/14/2013
  • "The first time I went to this restaurant I absolutely loved it so much that I took my boyfriend as a fun date. I'm not a huge fan of the city but this place is definitely a unique affordable spot that is worth going to and I would definitely go again."
    Dined on 12/10/2013
  • "Second time's the charm? :) It was still good. Due to the energetic noise levels at lunchtime, it was hard to hear the servers explain the sauces, cooking time etc, the BBQ restaurant may consider advising the servers to adjust their voices accordingly. Otherwise, the food is great. The mille crepes is to die for!"

  • "I went here with my boyfriend and out 2 friends for his birthday and we did the $80 3 course meal which was amazing! the food was great. Only thing I personally think this place is for two people at a time not good for groups, just because the grill in front of you is small and it takes a little bit of time to cook the meats. especially when your starving like we were it was torture lol... but hey a group is still good I would personally just like it for me and my bf. The mai tah drink was ehh Ive had better, I couldnt even finish it I had to force myself, and I dont have to force myself to drink anything alcoholic..the server was nice attentive changed our grills when needed, its very romantic very dimmed lighting.."
