Diner Reviews
  • "Despite the busy Fourth of July crowd, the service was still perfect and the food delicious as usual!"

  • "Food was good. Priced nicely. Went for the all you can eat on July 4th. All you can eat was for 90 min then we were urged to leave after the 90 min. I didn't like that because we wanted to order something different out of the all you can eat menu and have another drink."

  • "the place is vibrant and happy, and the food is fantastic....what a way to bond and spend time with friends while grilling your food...the atmosphere is pleasant, comfortable and relaxing (except for a bunch of noisy, rowdy and loud kids beside our table, who's parents seemed to have vanished). overall i will go back again like i always do."

  • "This is the kind of dinning that you will remember. Great happy hour and food menu."

  • "Loved the spicy margarita. The hanger beef was delicious, as was the spinach. The ahi tuna was less exciting, but perhaps I didn't grill it well. It could have used more seasoning, though. Even just salt/pepper. Booths were nice, roomy. Would go back."

  • "Great place for groups. Nice Japanese BBQ. Good service. Not to noisy"

  • "The food at Gyu-Kaku was tasteless. Seriously---I kept searching for a taste, any taste, and couldn't find one. Not even after adding various sauces. The shrimp had no taste, the scallops had no taste and even the garlic fried rice had no taste. Wait--actually, the mushrooms on the warm mushroom and spinach salad did have a taste, but that was it. Our server and hostess were lovely--no problem there. The noise level is high and annoying, but we could have been ok with it if the food had been good. It was not. We would never return and you should stay away. Very unhappy experience."

  • "This place usually has great food and good service. I've come here with friends at least 2-6 a month for the last year. It's too bad they never remember us!"

  • "We had a nice time at Gyu-Kaku midtown. We had been to the Times Square restaurant a few times but this was our first visit to midtown. The menu was similar (if not the same) and we ordered one of the bundled package deals for 2 (there were 3 of us). We ordered a few additional a la carte items and had plenty to eat. Ofcourse, the smores is a great way to finish the meal!"

  • "Food is very good and it is always funny to cook your food by yourself. Excellent place if you want to have a nice and quick dinner. A little bit noisy and hasty for a dinner with friend where you want to have time to talk. "

  • "The staff was very friendly. I took my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday. He loved the food and it was very fun cooking it ourselves. It's definitely a different kind of dining experience if you're tired of the traditional dining. Great for a couples date or a girls night out. "

  • "Gyu Kaku is a really great experience, as soon as you walk in you get the feeling if being transported to another place. Everyone here is so exceptionally friendly and warm. Now on to the food! Great set ups for groups and they teach you step by step on how to prepare and grill your food. Seasoned to perfection and totally fun! Cocktails are delish! Jenny our waitress but more like our guide into Japanese BBQ was simply amazing!!! Can't wait to come back!"

  • "To start, our server came and explained the menu, cooking instructions, and the restaurant's recommendations for meat and marinade combinations. Our food selections went as followed : BBQ Pork Tacos Chicken in Tare Sweet Soy Marinade Kobe Kalbi Short Ribs in Garlic Marinade Wagyu Beef Garlic Spinach Broccoli and Cheese Asparagus Sukiyaki Bibimbap - Beef Rice The star of the show was the Wagyu Beef. It was pricey, but worth it. The Wagyu Beef is almost a divine experience. The meat literally burst in your mouth with flavor and dissolves in two chews. Search the net for reactions to eating Wagyu Beef and you will better understand. Once you have it, you're hooked. Overall, it was a great experience and my wife can't wait to go back. "

  • "Great place to go for a fun dinner with a couple friends. The booths/tables never seem big enough for more than 6 people which is annoying but the experience makes up for it. Make sure to get the "tuna volcano"! Overall a solid place for a night out. "

  • "The lunch special here is fantastic. Two delicious meat entrees, sizzling hot garlic rice, soup, salad, a side of spinach (and free edamame for checking in via Facebook) and I was out the door under $20 (including tip). Great service, tons of leftovers. Highly recommended. "

  • "Wonderful experience, great food, you should definitely order the special for 4 people in order to try everything!"
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Great spot to eat. Pricing is good but only disappointment was meat can be a little bit better in size. Grill is awesome to you to cook your food."
    Dined on 4/8/2014
  • "every time we return to eat at Gyu Kaku, it seems as if the portions are getting smaller and smaller, which means we have to order more to get full.....we always wind up spending more and more...... we always leave hungry.....try Korean BBQ, its cheaper"
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "Chose the Spring Menu and did not regret it. Every item on it was tasty, portioned just right, and won over my skeptical husband who was raving about the meal and the interactive grilling from the first course. Service was attentive and not suffocating. Sprang for the Nigori Sake at $8/bottle, which was a great milky sake, full of flavor and not very strong. Make a reservation for dinner - at the entrance there were a lot of people standing or sitting on stools at tall bar tables, sipping drinks while waiting for a table."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "While this was my second time dining here with reservation, I had to wait half an hour to be able to sit at the table that was reserved for me. The first time I went, my table was ready. Five minutes would've been understandable, but half an hour was too much. The waiting time for the food to arrive was acceptable and the food was just as delicious as the first time."
    Dined on 4/2/2014
  • "Great food and ambience. The service and quality of food aren't consistent but its the best Japanese bbq I've had."
    Dined on 3/31/2014
  • "Going to Gyu-Kaku happy hour is one of my favorite things. Most of the drinks and food are half price and for the price, the proportions are great. I would definitely recommending this place for a group of people or even an intimate date."

  • "It was a great time!! You surprised my son with an ice cream with a candle and the crew sung him Happy Birthday. It was outstanding!!"

  • "Upstairs in an office building this is a real treat. The grill your own bbq is fun and the quality of the meat makes it a great meal. Go with a group and share various cuts of beef, etc."

  • "The food is always good and the specials make it even better! Service is fine, but not excellent. Would still recommend to anyone."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "the meat in general is very delicious. some thick cut is a bit hard to cook or chew, but in general very good. side dishes are charms. the pot could be easily over heated so keep that in mind."
