  • "A friend had taken his current girlfriend here on their first date, and told me about their experiences. I went ahead and made a reservation (recommended), for myself and my date, not too long after hearing about it. I recommend the Geisha combo. Sufficient amount of food for 2 hungry people. Combo consisted of a variety cuts of beef, chicken, asparagus, soup, hand tossed salad, and desert (smores). Very tasty, good marinades on the meats. Speedy and attentive staff. Grill was changed promptly before things got burnt and smokey. Food came out very quickly as well (hey, it's raw food after all). My date loved the Gyu-Kaku. She said it was her second favorite date spot after our Valentine's day dinner. Will look forward to visiting again!"

  • "This was my first time at a Japanese BBQ restaurant and I loved it. Great food, cheap drinks and fun cooking your own food. I would definitely recommend you try it atleast once. Hint: not an expensive restaurant but be careful ordering. My meal for two wound up at $90! ( but to be fair, my date is very extra in his spending)"

  • "my boyfriend and I got the Vday Samurai special for 60 something dollars. We had to change our reservation time and they were very accommodating and we were seated immediately which was great. This place is pretty loud and you have to cook meats and serve yourself so would not recommend for a formal dinner or anything. Our server, Julian, was helpful in helping us choose what we wanted and side dishes and meats were arranged nicely. The salad was nice and refreshing and the gyoza was crispy. The Samurai special was really good for first timers to try out the meats, which were mostly amazing. The chicken and shrimp were alright too but not something I'd order a la carte. I wanna go back already :)"

  • "I had already eating at Gyu kaku a few weeks before and made reservations for my boyfriend and I. Unfortunately, when we arrive for our reserved time, they said people were still eating and we would have to wait. We ended up waiting for about 15 minutes before we were seated. Other than that, we had a great dinner."

  • "So right off the gate have to say we were 15 minutes late & altho we were very apologetic about it,the hostess wass down right rude & almost yelled at each person in the party.Not appreciated at all.There were not 100s of people waiting for the table of 3 especially since open tables was showing availability every 15 mins.The wait staff were very nice & friendly but the timeliness of service was terrible.We had to wait for almost 30-45 minutes before the drinks were served.The food came much faster.All this said,the food was incredibly good & flavorful.Everything we ordered was made to perfection.The BBQ items were marinated to perfection and the flavors was fantastic.The hotpot was tasty and irressitable.Service needs attention."

  • "The food was good! However, had a horrible dining experience. Although we were seated are our reserved time, we were put way in the back where there was a huge group having a pretty roundy time. I couldn't even hear what my date was saying. Then there was the putting of the chairs on the tables whilst customers were still eating (well waiting for our food). I'm sorry but you do not put the chairs up while people are still there. Might as well tell me to leave. Also, food took way to long! And finally, the wait staff sat behind us eating while customers, including me, we're still there! Rude! Finally, our waiter left us mid service. I understand it may be a new restaurant, but it needs a management cleanup. One of my worst experiences."

  • "Gyu Kaku is one of my favorite chains and I visited the Boston location for the first time for their happy hour. The food is great but the service was absolutely awful and I don't know what kind of system they are using to deliver food to the tables. I ordered several items that never made it to the table and got charged for random items on my bill. I ordered a sauce and the waitress delivered it after she turned off the grill and we had cooked all of the meat and asked me if I still wanted it with no apologies. Great prices and great food, awful service."

  • "This is the first Japanese BBQ restaurant I've seen in Boston, and it is pretty authentic right down to the menu style and food choices. Lunch is "happy hour" and the prices are great. The food is as expected, if you've been to similar joints in other countries. If not, I'd say it is quite good (how bad can thinly sliced marinated beef, freshly grilled, be?) and most likely has something for everyone, including ice cream to finish. The ramen was perfectly al dente (or "Q"). There is also a Korean influence as there is some kimchi and bibimbap. It is nice to be able to eat almost every bite directly from the grill and not worry about it getting cold. Make a reservation."

  • "This is the type of place you just have to try once, and you'll love it or you'll hate it. Not the best in the whole chain but the only one in Boston. Food is great and there are great deals during "happy hour" (which is basically any time but dinner, before 5) so it's a little easier on the wallet than if you pay for everything at full price. Service is a hit or miss, I've had some great servers and have had some lacking ones, depends on your luck, I guess. Great for large parties and special occasions (non-fancy ones). I'll be back for sure."

  • "Tried this out after going to one near NYU in NYC. Could be better. We had a fixed set and added some dishes that a friend recommended. The Fixed set is good for a first timer,salad, app , entree meats and desert. Next time I would order ala carte to avoid - not very exciting gyoza, steamed butter asparagus (1/3 were the tough ends). It is easy to rack up $$$$ as adding a rice for $5 or fries for $5, sauces are extra (disappointly). For 2 non drinkers our bill was$100+. Good special occasion place. Recommend the fries with row dipping sauce (nice twist to greek taramousalata), Garlic bacon bim bap rice (tell waiter to leave stone bowl to keep rice warm). I would go back..... again in a couple months to try out some other Apps."

  • "I went with my family for my sister's birthday and we had a great time. It was my first time and I thought it was cool to cook you're own food like hotpot. The food was super delicious, especially the kalbi short ribs. Dessert was delicious, must try the green tea crepe cake! We had great service, was interesting to see the server change the grilling plate and oiling it. A great find, I definitely recommend people to give it a try."

Not just the meat was great, but the side dishes were awesome too! I also like how the manager tells us how long the meat should be cooked on the grill. Overall, we had a great time there! Will totally go back! Oh! We didn't smell bad after the meal too : )"

  • "I went to Gyu-Kaku last Saturday with my friends. The food is really really good. BUT their service is far far from good!!! We ordered one course which serves 4 people, they gave us one more adamame(we returned to them) but forgot our 2 veggies dishes. They charged me $45 more on the check!!!!!!!! I found out and asked the waiter to remove it. What surprised me is that they charged me $10 more again on the credit card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • "Gyu-Kaku has many isolated space that is very private and quite. Friends or lovers can enjoy their time talking and eating as if eating at home. The amount for each dish is not as much as we thought though, so we cost around $50 for two people."

Lunch tiime was packed with customers but a simple reservation would get you a seat right away. The service was speedy and welcoming. I felt comfortable in the environment and the food was a plus."
