Diner Reviews
  • "Expected a top dining experience after seeing ratings. Host staff was cordial; waiter very pleasant. Then, the food stayed coming. The pork belly appetizer was delicious, but amazingly small ($9 for three tiny pieces of pork and three chunks of watermelon); the lionfish ceviche was a joke. .. almost non-existent on the plate for around the same price. I've had expensive dishes before, but at least I didn't feel completed cheated of a dining experience. The main course, mahi, was tasteless and cold, also small for the 30 odd dollars. All in all, I left feeling hungry and as if I had been robbed."

  • "My daughter, niece and I were in town for the day and decided that before we headed home we would have dinner at G.W. Fins. I used opentable to make our reservation and I let the restaurant know that we would be celebrating my niece's 12th birthday. When we arrived, they escorted us to our table where they had it decorated with confetti and her own keepsake menu with "Happy 12th Birthday Maddy" and the date. She was so surprised. The waitstaff and GM treated her like royalty. Not many upscale restaurants would do that for a young girl. Not only was the food wonderful, the attention that my niece received made this an unforgettable experience. I cannot wait to come back to have dinner very soon!! Thanks GW Fins for the experience!!"

  • "Recommended to us by the locals, we had a great dinner with some of the best cocktails and dessert we had anywhere in New Orleans."

  • "The free biscuits are to die for, as are the rest of the seafood dishes they serve there. We had the drum and swordfish, both of which were delicious, with great accompaniments. The service was very friendly and efficient. The only thing that lets the place down in my opinion is the ambience/decor. It's pretty generic 'nice restaurant' with no unique touches."

  • "Marlon is a very good waiter. The food tasted fine at the time, but later it seemed to have a lot of MSG because I drank large quantities to satisfy my thirst throughout the night."

  • "The lobster dumplings very excellent and the unique seafood, "Scalibut"! Exceptional. It was a combination of scallops and halibut was fantastic! The server, John, recommended a white wine with my dining, great choice. I have eaten here before and have always experienced a wonderful dining adventure. Keep of the great work!!"

  • "This was our first time dining at GW Finns although we been to New Orleans many time and have dined in most of the named places. We were pleased that the food was creative and not the usual New Orleans fare. The set meal is not to be missed and changes daily. A real value in a city where the tabs can run high. The service, like the food, is first rate. We were very impressed with the owner who was a hands on guy helping the servers where needed, mingling with the diners and always there to provide a friendly assistances. Wish more places these days did this."

  • "A great French Quater restaurant. Of course it being Quater restaurant it was a little loud but that did not matter. Everyone was so nice. It was our anniversary and they made it special. Great service, our server was awesome. The food was even better, ordered the Scalibut, a must have! I would definitely go back and I would definitely recommend."

  • "We went to GW Fins to celebrate my husband's birthday and it was perfect! They wished him a happy birthday right away, and the table had some decorations on it. Nothing ridiculous, it was just the perfect amount. The service was outstanding. The food was delicious. We will definitely return here whenever we are in NOLA!"

  • "My husband and I had dinner here while in NOLA. The food was AMAZING. Probably the best swordfish I have ever had. New Orleans certainly knows how to do blackened! From appetizer to dessert it was just delicious."

  • "GW Fins was very good but I would rate as great. We had some waiter issues with level of detail and attentiveness. Food was very good. Would we visit again. Yes we would but perhaps with reduced expectations."

  • "restaurant in New Orleans! The flavors absolutely explode in your mouth! The menu is incredible and the service spectacular!"

  • "One of the best fish restaurants we have been to anywhere. They only serve fresh quality seafood and won't put on menu anything less. The soft shell blue crab appetizer was to die for. Lobster potstickers great. Very good Caesar salad. Drum fish parm crusted with crab on top orgasmic. Red snapper with kick to it was heavenly. Blackened swordfish best we have had. Salmon great also. Very good side dishes and waiter Oliver was attentive and personable. Desserts were just ok. Very comfortable and not too noisy. Prices were a bargain for the taste and quality compared to what we get in seafood in Los Angeles. Don't miss it"

  • "If you enjoy great food and want to experience this in a romantic and elegant setting, G.W. Fins should be your next destination. The service is very professional, albeit not as chitty-chatty as I had hoped. Portion size is appropriate and the wine/drink list is nice."

  • "GW Fins is our absolute must go to spot for the best food whenever we visit New Orleans. Ryan was our waiter for our Birthday/Anniversary dinner & was so helpful. All I can say is we will be back!"

  • "We loved GW Fins. In New Orleans for a conference and this was far and away the highlight of our trip. Loved the lobster potstickers (melt in your mouth!) to start and the swordfish entree. The dessert was a peanut butter chocolately to-die-for creation. Service was impeccable. Not a bad thing to say about this spectacular dining experience."

  • "This was our second foray to GW Fins. I hadn't thought it possible to top the first visit, but it was even better, with exquisite food that rolls across the tongue like a heavenly harmony. This is seafood taken to the ultimate level. Each bite holds a complexity of flavors that combines subtly with interesting hints of the unique and unknown. It is irresistible--like a siren song playing on the palate, begging for more. And afterwards, trying to keep the memory of the flavors alive, truly a wonder where the whole is so much more than the sum of its parts. It is not just fresh fish or fresh vegetables, it is the epitome of truly fine dining. New Orleans is known for its incredible food, but GW Fins is the only place I recommend."

  • "Good restaurant EXCEPT for the noise level. We had to shout to be heard by others at our table. Ruined the experience. Might be better for lunch or when it is less crowded."

  • "GW Fins lives up to its reputation as one of the best restaurants in New Orleans. After our dining experience, I'd put it at the top of my list in a city filled with great restaurants. Service was perfect (thanks Jason!), and every single dish the three of us tried was delicious. Perfect for a special celebration where you want everything to be just right."

  • "I have been coming since 2006. At that time I met Gary Wollerman. Since then he has always stops by the table and leaves you a personal feeling of welcome. It is a nice romantic place with quiet atmosphere and well behaved customers. The quality of the food and services can't be beat in New Orleans. My guest always comment on how delicious their meal was and that they like that menu was printed for that day. The dinner is well prepared and presented as well as hot and timely."

  • "We came for the Fins Feast, a three-course fixed-price menu that was attractively priced. The service was five-star all the way, from being greeted by name throughout the meal, to menu recommendations, and more. Our waiter was amazing. The food was delicious and creative. This was a very special evening at a very special restaurant! Thank you for making it affordable!"
