  • "We celebrated my husband's 65th birthday at GW Fins when we were in New Orleans, and what a great restaurant; wonderful food and ambience. The food and service were top notch. We shared the lobster dumplings to start; they were extremely light and so, so good. I had the parmesan crusted sheepshead fish (a very mild fish) for my entree, and my husband had the blackened swordfish. Both were outstanding! For dessert my husband had sorbet and I had the Salty Malty Ice Cream Pie....every bit as good as it sounds. They also brought my husband a plate with a candle and happy birthday written in chocolate. GW Fins is definitely a restaurant not to be missed!"

  • "Down here once a year for French Quarter festival. Reserved a table at GW for two nights. That's advertisement emogh."

  • "The appetizers were Lobster dumplings, Blue Crab pot stickers, smoked sizzling oysters and whole Cajun shrimp. Our table chose the Sheepshead, Blackened Swordfish, Yellow Fin tuna served rare, the gulf Snapper and the wood grilled Grouper as the entree and each preparation showcased the fresh product but did not over power the flavor and texture of the fish. The baked apple pie with aged cheddar and praline caramel ice cream was the only sweet we shared and it was fantastic. Hard to imagine coming to the Quarter and not eating at GW Finns."

  • "Although not "old fashion" New Orleans seafood, that would have very rich sauce, GW Fins' seafood is so fresh and prepared with "lighter and less filling" recipes. Three of us shared 6 small seafood plates -tuna, oysters, sheepshead, 2 preparations of lobster, and crabmeat - all were fantastic. Also loved there gnocchi and the mushroom risotto. Our waiter helped direct us to our final choices and made the entire experience worth recommending highly. I think New Orleans has some of the best food and restaurants in the world. GWFins should be one of your choices while in New Orleans."

  • "Quite good. Both my wife's(sheepshead)and my dishes (scallops with mushroom risotto) were outstanding Also multiple appetizers on menu including crudos and seafood ravolis. Wine list just average"

  • "Our first time in New Orleans and I did a lot of research about restaurants in the area. I was truly delighted at the choice of GW Fins! Especially because I made the reservation for 4 first-timers. The service was excellent, the drinks first rate and the food was delicious! Did I mention the salty malty was divine, with the perfect combination of salt and sweet. Don't let the contemporary feeling of the place throw you, this is a friendly place with good ambiance and great food and drinks. Just right....Well worth your time and money, enjoy!"

  • "Great location just off Bourbon, awesome food, good service and a reasonable wine list. I'd definitely go back, make a reservation."

  • "Sorry but I just don't think the food is that great for the price. There are MUCH better options in town."

  • "Rated very highly on tripadvisor so we checked it out, and it was very good. Food was excellent. Only issue (and it's a minor one) is that you do seem to pay a lot and get great quality, but the quantity of the food seemed a bit lower than hoped for. But I was overall happy and would likely go back."

  • "first trip to New Orleans. First trip to GW Fins. The food was very good. I had the Swordfish, split the Smoked Oyster appetizer and apple pie desert.. Both were very good. Not a place to go if you want a relatively quiet evening or in a hurry. The noise level was very high and it took over 90 minutes from start to finish. We placed the order for desert when we placed our order for the meal and still waited after we finished for it to be served. After a long flight to get there and not eating since 1130 it was a long wait at 930 p.m. for dinner. Pricey compared to other restaurants we ate at but still good."

  • "It was a great dining experience. The food was stellar! Lots of delicious choices. We really loved the 'scalibut' ~ a fillet of halibut stuffed with scallops. YUM! Despite being very busy the noise level was not bad. The booths have high backs and give you the feeling of privacy and keep the noise down. We absolutely LOVED this place and it will be on our reservation list on our return trips to N.O. I highly recommend you give G.W. Fins a try! :-)"

  • "GW Fins for our first fine dining choice on our recent visit to New Orleans, and this restaurant exceeded our expectations in all regards. Each meal was awesome, full of flavor and nice portions of perfectly-prepared fish. The only thing that would have made the meal better was larger portions of the meals side dishes. The wait staff was friendly and always on the ball, the atmosphere was exactly what we wanted, upscale but not pretentious. In our travels we have found that great seafood restaurants can be hard to come by, we wish there was a GW Fins in all of our favorite cities!"

  • "The food was phenomenal and the service impeccable. I wish I had known about GW Fins before, but now that we've found this gem, we will be back again and again! It was a little noisy when we first arrived, as the place was packed, and there were several large groups thoroughly enjoying themselves, but as they cleared out, it quieted down and we were able to hear the lovely selection of music and really enjoy the ambience."

  • "There are plenty of Fried seafood joints around town. But if you want I nice selection of fresh fish prepared in a myriad of ways, this is the place. Went for an early pre-opera dinner. Service was great, attentive, but not rushed. A very nice experience overall."

  • "I go to gw fins whenever I am in New Orleans and have never been disappointed I introduced three friends to the restaurant this past week and they are now devotees. The sizzling oysters, tuna crudo and soft shell crab are my favorite appetizers( the soft shell crab is a meal it is so filling) The scale it and lobster risotto had my friends waxing poetic and I loved the sheephead and other friends adore the scallops and mushroom risotto The wine list is fantastic and Anthony always has great recommendations Wait staff are attentive and pleasant Biscuits are to die for No disappointments"

  • "A true gem of a restaurant that can be found right in the middle of the busy French Quarter in New Orleans. I would highly recommend GW Fins and in particular their deliciously light and flavorful lobster dumplings! The service was excellent, food presentation outstanding and the overall quality of the fish superb! The seared tuna was delicious, as was the house special, sea scallops and halibut. Worthy of a visit for anyone in the Big Easy!"

  • "This resteraunt was amazing. The food was delicious, our server Marvin was so wonderful, and the mood was just perfect for a romantic night out. Marvin was so well versed and knowledgeable about all the menu items and was able to answer all of our many questions. It allowed us to pick the best meals on the menu. We would most definitely return!"

  • "We loved it. The food was excellent. The portions were perfect. They were not so large as to feel stuffed, but small enough you could eat it all. And the replacing biscuit deal was great; it made us laugh. But we also ate them. The wait staff was nice and a bit formal. But I always come back to the food. Everything we had was delicious."

  • "Just returned from several days in New Orleans with friends on vacation. Dinner our first night was at GW Fins. i located it on the web. Dinner was truly enjoyable for all of us. The food selections were both interesting and very good. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The most outstanding aspect of dinner however was not the food but the service, Jason provided an outstanding dining experience, one we will remember long after the specifics of the food is forgotten. The only negative, which was a consistent observation across all the dinners we had in New Orleans was the pace which we would have preferred to be somewhat more leisurely. We didn't feel rushed exactly but under two hours for a full course dinner might be a little aggressive"

  • "We ate at several highly recommended restaurants in NOLA, but GW Fins blew the rest out of the water. The setting is beautiful, the service top notch, and the food? Fantastic! Try the "scalibut," you won't regret it."

  • "Beet salad with pecans, goat cheese and arugula was very good. My wife loved the blacken tuna, not too strongly spiced. The red snapper was fresh and cooked correctly but the sauce was uninspiring. The biscuit, as mentioned on many reviews, was above average. Good space between tables and the noise level was reasonable. The wait staff was helpful and efficient."

  • "My husband and I entrusted GW Fins with our wedding anniversary dinner and they did not let us down! Every section of the experience was impressive, from being greeted at the door, to the (very short) wait at the bar to our outstanding waiter--the service was impeccable! The waiter was attentive but not too in your face and we did not at all feel rushed (despite the line at the door to get in). The best part was that when we arrived at our table, they had taken the liberty to decorate the table with a menu printed with an anniversary message and our names. We were floored at the level of detail and care they took to make our day special. We will be back every time we visit NOLA!"

  • "We appreciated the staff taking our reservation and special request seriously. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and taken to our requested table. Dinner was excellent and the staff did a fine job. As a local, I will go back here more often after this experience."

  • "Food was excellent. Great choices. The four of past around each course so we could all experience the food. Will return to the restaurant next trip to NO"

  • "The food and service are excellent but expect to wait for your table (even with reservations). The noise level is a little above "energetic"; don't come for a quiet, romantic dinner."

  • "My husband and I recently dined at GW Fins on our anniversary trip to New Orleans. I found it on Trip Advisor and all the reviews were so positive that I thought it would be the preect place to dine and celebrate. Everything was perfect and more delicious than I could have imagined. We feasted on the smoked oysters and lobster dumpings as an appetizer. My main course was the Chilean Sea Bas (2 thumbs up) and my husband when for the Swordfish. We shared the Mushroom Risotto and the Salty Malty Ice Cream Pie. When we arrived at our table they also had a special menu with our names and the date wishing us a Happy Anniversary which I thought was the most perfect personal touch. HIGHLY RECCOMEND!"

  • "We ate several appetizers (lobster ravioli, crab pot stickers and there signature cold smoked oysters that are then baked on 500 degree shells. The oysters were great. The wine list was large and not overly priced We had Scallibut (scallops on hallibut) for me and flounder for my girlfriend. The hallibut was a bit overdone and it turns out that the scallops are thinly sliced and on top of the hallibut.....leaving me to wonder where the scallops were. They recommended a pretzel pie dessert which was very good. Service was excellent Overall very good. If you want prime time weekend reservations start weeks in advance (I guess) as we made ours 1 week in advance and all they had left was 5:00, 5:15 and 9:30 PM"

  • "My husband and I went here while spending a few vacation days in New Orleans. I read about this place and had a local we knew suggest it as well. Overall, everything was really great. I just have two small complaints. My husband ordered a mint julep, and our waitress said they make a great one. Well, it was watered down and flat, and we sent it back. She apologized and brought us a fresh different drink. I ordered the lobster dumplings after reading so much about them, and while they were really good, they came out cold. However, my crab cake was wonderful, and my husband's fish was fantastic. The best part of the meal was the salty malty pie! So yummy! Definately worth a trip there."

  • "Just finished a week in New Orleans...ate dinner at the Fin the first night. It was the best meal we had all week!! The place was packed and everything went like clock work. Seven o'clock reservations and we are seated by 7:05, with in minutes we have drinks ordered and we where NEVER rushed...everything was fantastic! It was by far the best restaurant experience I have had in a long time!"

  • "Great blackened swordfish, and jumbo shrimp. Waiter's recommendation on wine pairing was spot on. My wife eats gluten-free and the restaurant used gluten free products to meet her needs. Gluten free chocolate mousse was also a tasty treat. I was an out-of-towner looking for great seafood, and tripadvisor led me to this choice. Entrees run around $30, which seemed in line with other New Orleans restaurants visited during the week. To get in with only a day's notice, 5 pm reservations where necessary. Jeans and collared shirt, with a pair of tennis shoes met the dress code."
