Diner Reviews
  • "Service was great, but it took a very long time for the food to be serviced."

  • "4 in our party, 3 non american born...we all all loved it..salvatore the waiter from napoli was a delight.... fried baby artichokes, baby octopus with beans, polpette, sweetbreads, steak, squid ink pasta, pork chop, light as air greek yogurt panne cota with berries and a heavenly frozen coconut pie concoction...all delicious, not greasy, well seasoned, non overly salted. if i had to eliminate 1 dish it would be the steak...sort of blah next to everything else and not so tender. i will definitely go back and tell friends about it. we closed the place !"

  • "Small menu but big in quality. Excellent house made pastas, servers are friendly and attentive. Went there the first time with a BBE discount and now we are hooked!"

  • "We were disappointed in the limited menu. The Sunday prefixe did look interesting but was not offered when presented the first regular menu. Had heard rave reviews but not from us."

  • "Tagliatelle and artichoke salad were awesome and chocolate pudding sensational!"

  • "Four of us for dinner, two couples. We loved it all, from the hostess to the wine selections and the beer to the care they take my making everything organic on the spot. The starters were all great...burrata was delish, as was the octopus. Moving on the the pastas, the black spaghetti was superb. So interesting and so well done. The coconut creme pie was satisfying enough for four people to share one slice. I will try something other than the chicken next time."

  • "We love Gusto! We eat there often and am always impressed with the food, and service. The wine list is also pretty incredible."

  • "Vic Cassanova's Gusto is everything one could want in a restaurant. Fantastic real food, wonderfully warm attentive service, cozy atmosphere, terrific wine list (so i don't even bring my own cherished wines), and fair prices. I love Gusto."

  • "We've dined at Gusto several times and always enjoy it. The tagliatelle with ragu bolognese was one of the dishes we tried on our first visit and it continues to be memorable. Although it is a small restaurant with tables close together, it has an energy that brings in a broad range of clientele, from the young and the hip to those more advanced in years simply seeking a terrific meal and excellent service. It is sometimes hard to get reservations but definitely worth persisting!"

  • "we were there for valentines day and had an incredible fixed menu. we still talk about the first course pasta. we'll go back soon and dig into the regular menu."

  • "Gusto is a terrific night out. Food and service are top notch. They're not resting on their strong start. Menu items are refreshed often, staff isn't shy about explaining and recommending and small menu features a number of unique surprises. Noisy in prime time."

  • "Went to dinner with my wife and 6 year old twins. We all agreed it was one of the best restaurant meals we had had in ages. Everything we ordered was delicious. The pastas are perfect, incredible meatballs, shockingly delicious kale salad. And the coconut dessert was exceptional. Highly recommended."

  • "Very small menu with large portions and rich food. We each took home half of our entree. Next time we would probably share an appetizer or an entree. Wish the menu was a bit larger. Good wine and beer selection, and willingly provided samples of wine by the glass, but wish they had a full bar. Will return."

  • "Very good food and friendly service. Unusual but good soundtrack, and thankfully not too loud. We'll be back."

  • "Great restaurant. Just had an absolutely lovely meal there. Such a romantic space. Food was fantastic and service even better. Check it out!"

  • "Gusto has a small menu, so it was very hard to decide what to order. Our waitress expertly guided us and then suggested the perfect wine to go with our meal. We loved every dish! At 10:00 when we were leaving the restaurant was still full. I definitely will be going back and am anxious to work my way through the menu."

  • "Best tasting flat iron steak I've ever eaten. Artichoke appetizer was sensational."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "Each of our visits to Gusto has been more pleasing than the prior one. Pasta and main course menu is small but excellent, with some choices not to found on the generic "italian" menus that are are so prolific in LA. This makes a great deal of sense for a tiny restaurant. Similarly, the wine list is not extensive but excellently chosen, with fair prices for the area, about 2 x retail. On our last two visits, we brought guests who had never known of Gusto, and they were very surprised at the quality of the food and service. The only negative, which we can overlook in view of the overall experience, is an energetic noise level."

  • "This is a great place with an interesting menu .Every dish was delicious. The restaurant is small which gave it a homey and friendly feel. The staff went out of their way to make us comfortable and meet our needs from when we walked in and throughout our meal. We were not alone with our positive experience, since after speaking with the people around us, they told us about their wonderful meal and plan to return. We're glad we found the restaurant and had what we consider a personal dining experience."

  • "Everything we ordered were great! Salad, octopus, chicken , cod, meat ball, ragu psta, coconut gelato pie, coffee, wine!!! We go back!!!"
    Dined on 2/26/2014
  • "Gusto was great for dinner! I think the food rivals more celebrated places in town (talking to you Bestia) at a fraction of the price. Only downside was that we had to wait 20 min for our table even tho made a reservation! The wine was a bit overpriced too."
    Dined on 2/25/2014
  • "Great little place with great food and service. We are not "neighbours", but look forward to come back over the hill soon. Resevation is a must, place was full at 6:30 PM on Monday!!"

  • "Service was amazing. Our waiter, Al, really knew how to ask us the right questions to pick our wines. And the food was absolutely yummy. The cod was scrumptious. Noise level was low at first, but when it got crowded the noise really picked up."

  • "This may be called a neighborhood jewel -- then consider all of Los Angeles to be the neighborhood. Chef Vic always surprises -- always authentic -- always fresh. The menu may be limited but it never disappoints. Though the dining room is small and noisy -- it's happy noise! And tonight the service was outstanding -- perfect pacing; suggested we taste be we order a wine and her suggestions were spot on."

  • "Our food was excellent, and the service was great once we were seated. The only issue I had was the time it took to get seated. It was at least 45 minutes after our reservation. But it was Valentine's Day. It is possible this wouldn't be an issue on a normal day."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Outstanding food! Everything we ate was absolutely top notch, and the service was fantastic as well. Our only compliant is that it can be rather noisy."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "This was our fourth visit and we have yet to order anything that wasn't outstanding. Service is attentive without being obtrusive, food exquisite and the only problem is the noise level, which makes conversation more of a chore than it ought to be."

  • "2/7/14 First visit ever. With all the marginal comments on line, we were so pleasantly surprised to find every aspect of Gusto to be excellent. The setting was pleasant and the noise level low enough to hear everyone speak at the table. The music choices were low - key 50's sounds. The food, from top to bottom was delicious. We had the asparagus, the crustini, the bucatini and the ragu. They came with an appetizing presentation exceeded only by each one's taste. We would return in a second. J"

  • "Mollie, the hostess, greeted us as if we were old friends. What a delight. Jaz served us and gave us recommendations regarding the food. Great personality. All 100% correct. Busboy refilled water and bread and did service with a smile and a buon gusto. The food was fantastic. Handmade pasta, delectable flavors, beautiful presentation. We would pay double the price for the experience. Thank you all. We will make this our go to Italian restaurant."

  • "My wife and I live just minutes from Gusto, but this was our first meal there. It was Dine LA week, and the choices were solid, but we elected to order off of the full menu given some of the recommendations from the staff. We shared 1 salad, 2 pastas, and 2 large plates and everything was excellent. We easily could have gotten by with less food, but as first timers, there were too many things we wanted to try. We'll definitely be back."

  • "Dont pass up the sweetbreads and shortribs. or any of the pasta dishes for that matter."

  • "The restaurant is quaint, hostess could not have been nicer and there's a guy there who knows wines like nobodies business. Other than that, it was just "meh." The waitress couldn't stop moving, which made us both nervous, perhaps it's her nerves, but she was way too enthusiastic about everything. Food was just okay, not amazing, not bad. We were told that we "Must" try the broccolini, it was too spicy, not worth $9 and not amazing in any respect. The rest of the food was fine, but again, nothing memorable. Prices are high for what it is, and I'd much prefer at least 20 other restaurants for the same price. Gusto was just okay but not good enough to recommend to our friends."

  • "The service was impeccable. We loved our outstanding waiter / server named Al. He knew a lot about the food and the wine list and offered us great suggestions. I was pleased."

  • "I was blown away by their Dine LA menu. They surely didn't skimp on providing you with a full dinning experience."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "Not molto bene but bene. For those who don't speak Italian, it was good not very good. The meatballs were actually some of the best I've had and the Panna cotta was superior but in between - just ok. Chicken was way too mushy texture-wise and quite unpleasant with the fatty skin and the bolognese I make better at home (and I learned in Italy so...). the chocolate torte was way too dry and the gelato - not good at all frankly. The olive oil they tasted 85 kinds and chose this one which is much too bitter. Overall it was average, and anyone who doesn't really know any better would say it was good or even great. I myself won't be going back as it isn't really worth it to me."
