  • "My wife and I have enjoyed great lunches and dinners at Gus's, but decided to go for a Sunday brunch on my wife's birthday. The breakfast offerings were excellent, and they make a good Bloody Mary (my wife's favorite!) The waitress having received this info, taped a candle to a Bloody Mary, and gave it to my wife compliments of the house; now that's service!!! We will continue going to this fantastic BBQ restaurant!"

  • "I've been going to Gus's for the past six plus years. It's usually my neighborhood go to. I feel offering some specials which I've suggested on numerous occasions might add a boost to their rather limited and not always tasty selections. Recently having had the catfish after a long reprieve I remember why I stopped ordering it. It's supposed to taste like something right? Well Gus's I may visit again some day but not my bi-weekly visits I've made in the past. PS The service is almost always great and admittedly some menus items are worthy."

  • "This was our second time to Gus's as we live out of the area and don't get to Pasadena very often. Really enjoyed all of our meals, including the Carolina pulled pork and brisket. Especially loved the entree-sized mac and cheese. We didn't have the fried chicken, but know it is highly recommended, so maybe next time. Service was excellent, water glasses and iced tea kept filled and waiter was very attentive and friendly."

  • "Thank you Open Table. Arrived at the fun funky BBQ restaurant, there were people waiting, we mentioned reservation through Open Table. It was like our secret code we were taken to a table immediatly. Restaurant is noisey, casual, been there forever. I wish I could remember our waiters name for he was wonderful. We mentioned it was our first time, OMG he like turned on offering to help us understand the menu. His service and attention were tops. Ok the food....we had a combo, St. Louis Ribs, boneless fried chicken, fries, coldslaw, house salad. Two of us shared, we both walked out full. Delicious, chicken well spiced crispy breading, seemed to be all white meet, ribs tender and fell off the bone. Fries were just ok. Would definitely return."

  • "As Father's Day approached, I began thinking about which restaurant I would suggest when asked by my family. I have several favorites, depending on whether I crave Mexican, Italian or a steak-house. At his point, I was craving Barbeque and of course the first restaurant to come to mind was Gus's Barbecue in South Pasadena. I first ate there thirty-five years ago when it was already a well establishe fixture in the community. Needless to say, when Father's Day arrived, we went to Gus's. I ordered the full rack of St. Louis style ribs, far more than I could eat, so I could have plenty left over for barbeque sandwiches at work the following week."

  • "We had a 12:45 reservation. We were early and checked in at 12:15. They told us we might have to wait until reservation time. We waited 1/2 hour past our reservation time!!! Altogether we waited 1 hour for a table of 5 and they blamed the customers for staying too long. Sorry we won't be coming back."

  • "We recently visited Gus's in South Pasadena on a Sunday Afternoon. We had a party of 4 and had a good time. The drinks were outstanding. I highly recommend the Tea Thyme concoction. When it comes to the food, some dishes like the entree macaroni and cheese and the brisket were exceptional while other dishes, fried chicken, braised greens, and the cornbread, were just okay. I would go back again and navigate the menu a little better. "

  • "an incredibly delectable experience: must try the cornbread and creamed corn. all the bbq dishes are to die for but especially liked the BBQ brick chicken, so moist and delicious. this restaurant offers some really tasty food. only downside was it was a little noisy in the back room where our table was. the other table was packed with people and therefore were louder than our table. didn't really matter though since our table was busy chowing down."

  • "I'll keep it very simple. I had been wanting to try this spot for a while now, especially because I had gotten into smoked BBQ recently. The food could've been warmer / hotter but the Memphis style Baby Back Ribs were dry, and so was the pulled pork. The flavor were right on, and the Brisket would've been perfect if it were served warmer. I also liked the St. Louis Style Ribs. I'm not writing this place off though. I'm going to give in couple of more tries because the service was great and the have a nice bar. I also want to try some of their sandwiches and burgers when I get a chance."

That being said the BBQ brick chicken was as good if not better than any BBQ chicken I have had. The place is busy (visited on a Friday night) as a good BBQ place should be. Reservations made things much easier, table was waiting for is when we arrived. Place inside is simply immaculate. "

  • "Our reservation specified "a table NOT a booth"... we got the booth right across the kitchen door. We wanted a table, we got it outside instead... It was too sunny, windy and noisy. We ate in a hurry because it was very uncomfortable. Our server was good but did not come back for a long while to check on us. Had to ask other servers for what we needed. Guess you were too busy... Not a pleasant experience. My grandson loves your hamburgers though!"

I decided to take my mother there for her birthday because she had just gotten her braces off the day before and had been dreaming of biting into ribs for three years. Her dream came true and she was not disappointed. Our server Laura was extremely energetic, friendly and helpful with describing the menu. We ordered the pulled pork nachos (thanks to Laura's recommendation) which are the most original and flavorful tasting nachos ever. The main course was outstanding as well. Overall we were extremely satisfied with food, service and ambiance. We will definitely be going back soon. Thank you Gus's BBQ!"
