  • "I reserved online with a request to "put a candle in some cornbread -- it's my husband's birthday and he doesn't eat desert." They gave us their best table at their busiest time and welcomed us with "Happy Birthdays" and......I got the candle in the cornbread!!!! It was a Delicious, lovely evening -- great Southern BBQ food (greens, red beans and rice and a full rack of ribs). They have good non-alcoholic beer, nice wine list and everyone was very friendly. Highly recommend Gus's -- but you MUST have a reservation!"

  • "Never had I thought I would even entertain such an item as Pulled Pork Nachos...well I'm so glad I did. They were seasoned to perfection, tender and not overwhelming in sauce. By far my favorite dish. The Ribs are to die for. Just the right amount of tenderness that you can enjoy. Lastly the Dinner portion Mac and cheese...yum yum yum"

  • "Made reservations on OpenTable using the mobile app, really simple! Got to the restaurant on time and was ready to be seated but our guest wasn't there yet, the restaurant said they will hold off on seating us but they did have a table all ready for us. Service was quick and very attentive but no overly done. Portions were very adequate. Food came out hot and fast. Gus's is our new favorite restaurant when we're in the mode for BBQ!"

  • "A very popular South Pas eatery: good food, excellent service, reasonable prices. The biggest detraction for me was only partially the restaurant's fault: it was one of the loudest restaurants I've been in in recent memory. Part of the problem was sitting next to a party with one extremely loud individual, but the overall noise level was so high that I often struggled to hear the people sitting across from me -- in part a consequence of acoustics, in part because they squeeze a lot of tables into the space, and it is a popular place. Of course the problem snowballs: the louder it gets, the louder people have to talk to be heard."

  • "We enjoyed the pulled pork tostada and then, on a later visit, we tried the pulled pork nachos. Big mistake!! They were so yummy that we always order them now and there isn't much room for anything else. The moist fried chicken made to order and the dirty rice side dish were also very tasty. On my last visit, I tried the chicken fried steak. It was a bit of a disappointment but that won't keep me away! Very nice restaurant, pleasant staff and always busy - best make a reservation."

We had some issues with the kitchen forgetting part of our order, but the manager and server moved very quickly to rectify and discounted the bill without us even asking. Highly recommended."

  • "Outstanding.. The fried chicken is great. Full breast pounded out and deep fried southern style.. Great brisket very good sausage and terrific pulled pork. Mac and cheese side is wonderful(per my lady) and you get 2 sides with a meal.. Ribs are fall off the bone tender with the slightest pull. But NOISY. Very loud inside place. Almost better to eat out on the table on the street"

  • "We have been to Gus's a couple times before and enjoyed it enough to return, but this time was disappointing. We had a reservation on a busy Friday night and were seated right away, it was a full house and so noisy we found it almost impossible to carry on a conversation - perhaps it was where we were seated? Three of our group ordered the pulled pork and brisket combo and all of us had a lot of fat, which was unappealing to the point that I couldn't go on eating it. The sweet potato fries were good as were the deviled eggs but I thought the mac & cheese lacked flavor. Sorry to say, all four of us left unhappy with our meals, but our server was great."

It usually has more sauce than we want, but you can always scrape some of it away yourself. Can get crowded, but if you make reservations, it's not a problem."

  • "We've never been to Gus's on the weekend, so didn't realize how busy it gets. And with good reason. My tri-tip was delicious, moist and flavorful and very tender. The brisket was great too, as were the sides we tried- cornbread, creamed corn, sweet potato fries. Our server Frankie was attentive and friendly. All around, a great experience."

  • "We went on Sunday after seeing the Yelp recommendation for chicken and waffles. It was very good. We also got the Southern eggs Benedict ( really good ) and biscuits and gravy with grits ( creamy and delicious). Our waiter was great too! Make a reservation and avoid the wait!"

  • "I recently took my wife and in-laws to Gus's because it was something I wanted to share with them that I grew up loving. My father owned a 76 Gas Station on the corner of Fair Oaks and Hope Street so all of us use to eat at Gus's. I can remember as a small boy walking down to pick up my parents lunch and excited to keep the left over change from the bill. The owner at the time was Pete. We loved Pete and the food since the mid seventies,"

  • "The food was absolutely outstanding! Everything on my plate included! There were four other people in our party and it was a unanimous decision. This was our first visit to Gus's. Even though the restaurant was completely packed and swarming with people the service was great. There isn't really much scenery but the ambience is acceptable. But the food was so good you didn't care one way or the other. I thoroughly enjoyed my barbecue brisket's. Spinach was the best I've ever had. Even my french fries were absolutely delightful."

  • "What can I say? I've been here about 10 times and every time it has been a wonderful experience. I love BBQ sauce, and this place gives you 3 kinds right on the table. I brought my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day because she's never been here before. We had the pulled pork nachos and the cornbread. She was blown away by the nachos, and she never really likes cornbread, but she did enjoy this one. For the entree, we split a ribs and 2 meat platter which was more than enough for the both of us. We had a lot left over. The service was wonderful. The waiter was very attentive and constantly made sure that we were comfortable, but not overly attentive where it gets annoying. Overall it was a great night."

Everything overall was great and we will definitely go back! It was a Saturday night and there were SO many people, we got lucky however because I made reservations, so I highly recommend reservations it will save you a lot of standing around, enjoy!"

It was still better than the wait with no reservations but having a new born- we time our feeding to go out and this threw us off ;( Baby of course woke up towards the end of the meal.   • "Had gone to Austin, TX and had great great BBQ, and came back to CA and started craving BBQ. Had always driven by this place, but finally got to try it with the family. Prices are reasonable, and food was delicious. Spare ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and had great flavor. Fried chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside. Everything my family ordered, we enjoyed. Our waiter also checked-up on us frequently and had a great attitude. Definitely would come here again.. many times."

  • "Brought the family by after an afternoon at Garfield Park. Great environment, loved that we were comfortable with our kids. Food was excellent, the chicken was especially delicious. Happy they had local brewer, Craftsman, on tap. Our service was very nice as well, offered up solid recommendations and was very accommodating. I will definitely refer this restaurant to our friends."

  • "I started coming here a few years ago after they remodeled & updated their menu.....Have never ever had a bad meal here. I keep coming back because there are so many good things on the menu. My favorite is their gumbo. Lighter than the usual gumbos served at other restaurants.........Once you start you can't stop eating......Delicious!!!!"
