  • "Excellent food and environment. We were well taken care of. A great find in our local neighborhood."

  • "a bit too loud to have a good visit with friends. would not recco going there with more than 4 people. wouldn't be able to hear each other very well. great food and service though."

  • "We felt rushed by the servers. It was a Wed night and yet I felt like they were trying to move us along. Restaurant was not full so it doesn't make sense."

  • "This is one of my and my husband's favorite places to go. We've never sat in the dining room but prefer to eat at the bar and take in the scene. We always end up splitting several dishes so we can try many things without getting filled up too soon. Great bartenders and they make GREAT cocktails. My favorite is the Cucumber Martini and my husband loves their Old Fashioned. Definitely worth checking out!"

  • "Way too loud. Can't hear anyone in a conversation at my table."

  • "We hadn't been back since the original chef left Guildhall, and the food is still very good. The service wasn't as great as I remembered - no bread at the table until after we ate our salad, waiter not as experienced as before. The trout and the roasted heirloom carrot salad were delicious. The bar is excellent. We will be back soon.."

  • "We loved the food and ambience but the service was beyond terrible. Took forever to order, rushed us through our 1st course by bringing our entrees out when we still had our salads/soup on the table and screwed up our dessert. There was no follow up from our server to see how our food was. The manager didn't seem to care when we said we were unhappy with our experience. The restaurant needs a lot of customer service help. Such an unhappy experience that I do not plan to return."

  • "a great neighborhood dining experience...goood food"

  • "We had dinner at Guildhall prior to a 6 pm curtain at Writers Theatre, and it worked out perfectly. The theater is a 5-minute walk from the restaurant. It was a Sunday, so on-street parking was plentiful and free with no worry of a ticket. Others on this page have complained about the noise level at the restaurant, and that may be so, but a 4:30 pm seating solved that problem."

  • "I've eaten at Guildhall several times. The food can be great or mediocre (most recently it was great). The service is excellent but the place is so noisy it is hard to hear your dinner companions speak! If the food quality were more consistently great and it was less noisy, it would be a superb restaurant."

  • "A delightful neighborhood dining spot. Great for before the theatre. The service is excellent."

  • "Great menu and exceptional food. Very nice atmosphere!"

  • "It is a badly needed fine dining establishment missing from the North Shore. Great space with an interesting menu. Even though it earns high marks for short ribs, fish etc., highest marks go to the burger. Outstanding!"

  • "Good food but too crowded, tables too close together and too loud."

  • "A little too noisy, but perhaps our fault for dining on a Saturday night"
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "I had high hopes for this dining experience as we often visit Writer's theater for a play and have found few dining options in Glencoe. Unfortunately the noise level of the restaurant was so very loud that we found ourselves screaming to be heard and the dining experience was less than relaxing. The food was fine but did not outweigh the less than conversationallly friendly environment. We are unlikely to return for our next Writers performance."

  • "Good food at a good price. A little noisy, with hard surfaces and tables close together, but that's common for restaurants, today. Banana cream pie so, so and ice cream a disappointment for lack of bourbon flavor (though the smoky quality was fun). Like the waiter."

  • "noisy energetic Saturday night...people were inconsiderate when needed to be seated. evening specials were sold out at 7 p.m. hinting to me that no one wanted the things on the regular menu. the mushroom tart was a pizza not what we expected. the pasta with wild boar ragu sounded awesome but taste was lacking. nothing was very flavorful. wish I would have loved it as a great suburban location with beautiful space."

  • "Everything was great.Staff was terrific, but noise level was so loud two of us could not really have a conversation. People at the bar should not be allowed to stand by the opening in the wall separating the bar. They were loud, had too much to drink, and were literally standing right next to our table"

  • "The service was invisible! The staff inept. The waiters couldn't speak English and they were not understandable. The restaurant is very beautiful, but there is no excuse for bad service. They didn't even have chamomile tea. I have been there two times in three weeks and there are never any specials and the waiters just shrug and say everyone is in Florida where the weather is better. Very unfortunate."

  • "This is one of those versatile restaurants with a great feel and really good food, to come after a show or with friends, but where we also don't hesitate to take our 8 and 9 year olds on a quiet Sunday night. The services is professional -- welcoming and friendly. No attitude. I highly recommend trying it if you haven't been here."

  • "A nice before-theater dinner. We shared the calamari which was very nice. Two of us had the salmon --- tasty and light and satisfying. One person had the duck which looked wonderful. There is a very nice bar area and lovely small plates to munch on. A popular neighborhood spot."

  • "Service was excellent; our water glasses were always at least 1/2 full and coffee kept coming. Though we felt bad that the servers had to keep coming over to our group; perhaps they can consider bottomless coffee and water pitchers on the table. Food was delicious and city-esque. We saw tables with children so seemed child-friendly. Apologies to our fellow diners; we might have been a little loud."

  • "Fourth time to Guildhall, and since there's nothing in the area even close to this place, we'll keep coming back. Service has been outstanding every time we've been here and the food has been excellent. The wine list does not have as wide a variety of selections as it should for a place that has such good food, but it is still pretty good. The only real fault I've had is with the brining of the chicken dish. While it makes the meat amazingly tender, it is a bit too salty."

  • "Guildhall is a great restaurant and a welcome addition to Chicago's north shore dining opportunities. Its location in downtown Glencoe provides a delightful neighborhood experience very welcoming to guests of all ages in pairs or larger groups. The menu is interesting and varied in choices of food; the ambiance is lively and energizing. The price point and overall experience makes one feel that good value has been received when you walk out the door."

  • "I have been here 3x and desperately want to like this place. The room is gorgeous. The layout is perfect. However, the service is just awful regardless of crowd size and the food is so expensive for what it is. I have told the manger of my experiences twice and there's the promise of I will work on it. There is no work being done - so am I. It's too bad it could have captivated the north shore with a little effort and an attention to detail. Paying $75/person is ludicrous."

  • "I was looking for a restaurant close to the Writers Theatre and found Guildhall on OpenTable. Everything was excellent from the moment that we were greeted. The building is a converted Guildhall. I really loved the way that they preserved the old and brought in new to make an interesting atmosphere. The building seems very large and it was hopping on a Saturday night. Our server was excellent, very knowledgable and responsive, just the right balance between attentive and respectful. They also have a very interesting cocktail menu that seems to take cocktails back to their roots... My short ribs & artisan carrot salad were excellent. The key lime pie was creative in terms of recipe and presentation, and was delicious BTW. Recommended!"

  • "The place bustled as patrons enjoyed their meals. It seemed to be a meeting place for locals. The manager/owner was gracious and the waitress attentive and courteous. We enjoyed our meal as well as the cocktails."

  • "Excellent dinner -- Delicious food and very efficient and pleasant waitperson. Extremely noisy. It is difficult to have a conversation with the people with whom you are dining,"

  • "Great decor; many staff are inexperienced and not ver knowledgable about menu, wines, etc. food is very good, but not amazing. They need to fix their reservation system. Open Table said they had no tables available until 7 pm; on one occasion we were forced to make a 5 pm reservation...and were alone int there restaurant until 7 pm. Ridiculous"

  • "So we needed a good meal before Writer's Theater and found it just a half block away at the Guildhall - which it turns out used to be a hardware store! The décor now somehow reminds of Remy MacIntosh Willow Tearoom. The food was excellent - duck, filet mignon, and a pasta with wild boar.. Both a sparkling and still rose' by the glass to gladden my heart and Hendrick's gin for the hubbies martini. Only 2 hitches - they couldn't get us through dessert before theater call and the prices are steep."

  • "I cannot say how happy I am (as artistic director of Writers' Theatre - full disclosure, the owners are on my board) to have this wonderful restaurant in Glencoe! We begin construction on our new building this summer (2014) and when we're complete (2016) we'll have around 350 hungry patrons looking for somewhere to dine. GUILDHALL is a block from the theatre; offers metropolitan class dining; has a vibrant and trendy bar scene with excellent cocktails; a beautiful decor; a friendly staff and a truly energetic and sophisticated vibe. And now they serve brunch too!!!!"

  • "The room was packed at 8:00 on a Friday night. The food was innovative and delicious. However, this restaurant is among the loudest I've ever visited. I could barely hear my wife sitting across from me at a table for two (by the way, neither of us has impaired hearing). The server had to bend at the waist and lean in so that we could hear him and he could hear us. I know (though I don't understand why) people like this type of dining environment. We do not."
