  • "Food excellent, but waitstaff kept trying to take our plates away. They even removed our dessert before we were finished with it!"

  • "Wonderful food. Enjoyed the pork chop, and Halibut."

  • "Too bad, because the food is excellent and the service mostly very good. But it's impossible to hear the person across the table when the restaurant is full."

  • "The food is great. Our server, Carmela, is our favorite of any restaurant anywhere! Casual, yet sophisticated, a comfortable place to enjoy a wonderful meal. DaveC"

  • "Great place for folks who live local and want to feel like they are eating at a fun spot. Great bar and generally really good food"

  • "This trendy restaurant has absolutely no sound absorption; the noise level is just too great to be able to enjoy a dinner table conversation. Limited menu, but good preparation."

  • "I go frequently, because they are the only fine dining restaurant in Glencoe. On this occasion, however, we went in very late on a weeknight, for a drink. They accommodated us, and the bartender made us some lovely cocktails, using a house-made tonic and a small batch gin. I also love the room, in daylight or evening, and the service is always welcoming and pleasant."

  • "Always nice to have some local choices. I haven't heard much about this place and I'm guessing it's because it was nothing special; not good but also not bad. Slightly overpriced for the portion size. The service was good."

  • "We so enjoyed our first visit that we returned a couple of weeks later. Not disappointed, food is excellent, service is friendly and efficient, interesting wine list."

  • "We had such a wonderful dinner here: all of our appetizers were delicious including the crudo, salmon tartar, and smoked trout lyonnaise salad. The wait staff was fun and welcoming, making certain at all time that we were enjoying ourselves and our meal. The owner? manager? also stopped by to chat and see how we were doing. I appreciated the waiter warning me that the lyonnaise salad was large enough for a meal, but I wanted to try the burger, so I ordered both. Delicious! Others enjoyed the pork chop. We'll be back."

  • "It's great to have a restaurant with a lively downtown vibe in the northern suburbs. The food is excellent (order the mushroom flatbread appetizer!) and our waiter could not have been better even though it was a continually busy (and loud!) Saturday night. One small issue. When I made the Opentable reservation long ago, I requested a window table. When we got there, I saw it was reserved for someone else. Now, I totally understand that there are a finite number of such tables, and there could be no guarantee. But when I asked the best way to request for next time, I was told to just indicate that when I reserved on Opentable. When I said I had done that, the hostess said she hadn't read the notation."

  • "The noise level is so high that it's impossible to carry on a conversation. People were literally shouting at each other. That's the only negative."

  • "This is my 4th time dining here and I'm afraid the last. Due to it being in my neighborhood I wanted to support it, but the food is really just so average and put that with it being too loud to talk and the expense it just isn't worth it."

  • "The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were greeted warmly. Four of us ordered the short rib entree which was fabulous! We took a chance on going to a new restaurant that no one had really heard about and were very happy with our experience. We'll definitely be back with our husbands and other friends. "

  • "My third dinner at Guildhall, and each time was excellent. Food is well-prepared, sometimes innovative, very tasty, and a variety of items on the menu. The calamari appetizer was outstanding, short ribs tasty and just the right amount of food. Ask for recommendations - our server was very helpful. Sophisticated, simple decor, and a busy place for pre-theater and after-work folks on a Tuesday night."

  • "Guildhall greets you with a dark wood, old school ambience that is arm and welcoming. The drink menu and wine list are very interesting and varied. Both appetizers and entrees show both imaginative and classic preparations, and the frito misto is great. We had short rib and duck main courses which were fabulous. No room for dessert, but they looked good. Service is excellent, the bar is suitable for eating as well. A fine experience!"

  • "We have been to Guildhall several times, and each time we have had a very positive dining experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the food is consistently very good to excellent, and it is one of those rare restaurants where we always feel the quality exceeds the cost."

  • "Our server was great (Pepe). He knew the menu, did a great job recommending dishes and the wine to accompany them. Everything was wonderful except...it was so loud we could not have a conversation with our table mates. We have been here before and loved it. We will visit again but before it gets so crowded."

  • "After our drinks were served we ordered a dozen oysters to start, as we wanted to have a leisurely experience. Once we were finished and got around to the waiter coming back for our main course order around 7:45pm, we were informed the they were out of most of the entree's due to earlier heavy traffic. So, we made the best of it and ordered based on what remained. Five minutes later, the waiter comes back to tell us that they were now out of one of the entree's we did order- which basically left us with two choices. The manager came by the table and apologized but refused to buy us a drink and instead offered to buy us 1 dessert. "

  • "I have been here several times and each time is a pleasure. The hostess greets you with a warm smile. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are at the ready with suggestions, explanations and service. We shared the salmon tartar, delicious, and each had the artichoke soup which was divine!!! All the soups I've had here were notable. I went with the special of halibut. Butter soft with a carrot vinegrette and veggies. My companion went with the tried and true succulent braised short rib. They have a wonderful wine list and classic cocktails. All in all, a wonderful place."

  • "I had the salmon which was fantastic. The side of brussels sprouts with unique and delicious. While I'm sure the wine list is notable, the prices were a bit high for someone who enjoys a glass or two of moderate wine. The service was very good and the recommendations we got from our waiter were spot on."

  • "I was looking for a quiet casual early dining experience, with really good food. Guildhall was perfect. We got an early reservation and really enjoyed a "downtown" menu ten minutes from home! WE all loved the burger! "

  • "We dined here earlier this week and while the food was good (oysters, 2 addtl appetizers, bottle of wine, two entrees, dessert), the speed at which it was delivered blew our minds....I have had to wait longer for fast food at a drive-thru than we waited for our appetizers to arrive after we ordered them. We asked for oysters first, followed by the other 2 apps and all three items came within what seemed like seconds from our actual order. We then waited to order entrees until after all apps were finished and again, both the salmon and the short rib entree arrived within what seemed like seconds. Way too fast for our taste. All the food was good but the speed of service really made us feel rushed & the tiny 2personal tables are too small"

  • "I've now been in a few times and think it's been a great addition to the North Shore! The food is amazing and innovative, the ambience and decor are beautiful, there is a great bar area to sit and enjoy drinks, and quite an extensive wine list. Try the short ribs, to die for! Looking forward to coming back again soon!"

  • "We went midweek and enjoyed very good food and excellent service. We went early and as we were leaving the noise level was getting above a comfort level. We don't like to have to talk so loudly to our dinner partners. The excellent food will draw us back, but we will try to eat on the early side and not on the weekends."

  • "This is a gorgeous 1 year old restaurant, with a genuinely pleasant staff in Glencoe, which has been lacking a real dining experience as long as I've been coming here. They are in the process of switching head chefs, so things may change, but I have yet to have a really great meal. The main reason- oldest one in the book: TOO SALTY! That can kill an otherwise beautifully prepared dish faster than anything. Chicken, Cauliflower cavatappi, even smoked trout salad, ALL pretty much ruined. I hope it's an aberration or that the new chef will bring about a change. "

  • "this was our second dinner- both times sat in the middle room which is a little quieter- but this is a very noisy restaurant I did not like the Halibut special at all- served cold, over powered by the onion taste that lingered the rest of the night for me having said that, the other three people at our table loved their food choices in particular, the salmon was a hit (I had eaten my first visit and loved as well) my other "gripe" is the service is intrusive- when serving they interrupt the diners and are very noisy, frenetic- hard to describe bottom line, I would go back for the trout salad and salmon dinne for sure I would ask for the middle room and I will tell the wait staff that I am easily startled and require less action"

  • "Although it wasn't busy, it took 10 minutes to take our drink order. The "Tarte Flambee Forestiere" appetizer was....a medium sized pizza. Not only not at all what we expected, but WAY too much food! We each had a couple of bites (it was fine) and then asked to have it boxed. For entrees, my wife had the handmade ricotta cavatelli. Honestly, it was overcooked Kraft mac and cheese with cauliflower. And to cap it off, when the server brought out the boxed "flambee" (after we had to remind him) the pieces with bacon had been mashed together with the pieces without bacon, which meant my wife couldn't even eat that when we got home (she's a vegetarian). A total disaster. Such a disappointment. We won't be back."

  • "I was looking for a good Easter Brunch on the North Shore that had a la carte items, rather than the buffet style brunches. We're not eating that much anymore, so a big buffet was not in the picture this year. I found "Guildhall" and was very pleased. There were 3 of us (all adults) and when we walked in, we were impressed with the feel and ambiance of the place. It has a city vibe with a very retro feel, and the place has been beautifully decorated. It just makes you feel happy to be in there. Service is very friendly, and the food is very good. I had the Traditional Eggs Benedict and found to be ample and tasty. My husband had the pancakes and they were yummy (though a bit small). My daughter had the granola and yogurt & was delicious."
