I don't say that to be discouraging, but to show that you definitely need a reservation as it's a popular place to go. The food was still quick and delicious, and the waitstaff was attentive and kind. We split a pitcher of red sangria which I highly recommend! The live music started about twenty minutes into our meal which was really cool. It did make it hard to hear each other because of our close proximity to the band, but unlike other reviewers we thought it was fun and not a downside to our meal! If you need a quiet place to talk, then don't go when live music is playing. However, I had a blast and a lot of people were dancing. This time I went for an early dinner. Needless to say, it was much quieter!. The food was good (not great - even though I ordered camarones enchilados - which are supposed to be spicy, it wasn't. Had to add lots of tabasco). The service was good and friendly. The mojito was okay. And the maduros were very good. It's a small spot so definitely have reservations if you're coming in a big group, and even with reservations you might need to wait 10-15 minutes. Noise level is loud, so may not be a good place for an intimate date but the scene is energetic and the place lively. Our menu choices were delicious, as was the pitcher (!) of sangria that magically kept appearing in our glasses. Our waitress was absolutely superb, as were her suggestions of the grilled calamari in garlic and the lechon main course. Did I mention the sangria - it was some of the best I have ever had. We were there early for dinner, so unfortunately we missed the live music, which sounded great as we were leaving. Had read other reviews and we were a bit iffy on the place but we were pleasantly satisfied with the service and the food was great. The mojitos with sugar cane in them were some of the best we've had. They are not new pan-Latin cuisine that many Latin restaurants are serving up. They are the old school NY Latino cuisine that is still some of the best the city has to offer. Not pretentious, just good food. Only feedback would be that they maybe should had the live music start earlier on a holiday weekend. The music was just right and awesome band playing my parents classic type of music and they had everyone into it . I was offered the downstairs dining room but opted to wait for a table upstairs which was a good idea because my wife a Cuban also could see the band play. A great place to celebrate an occasion or just life itself. Everyone wants to please you. The hot food is rushed to your table and the consistent delicious food keeps us coming back.
