  • "The food was really good, but this restaurant is too loud for my taste. Probably would be good for a group gathering. The service was not great. It took a really long time for the waiter to take our drink order and then it took forever to get my wine. The food starting coming out and we didn't even have any drinks yet."

  • "This is a wonderfully informal restaurant serving near-perfect seafood. The service is amazing, too; a fork was replaced without my noticing until after the fact. Be sure to get the mussels - the ciabatta that comes with the dish is absolutely wonderful."

  • "Visiting Chicago for a long weekend and decided to eat at GT Fish and Oyster after looking at their brunch menu. I had the shrimp and grits and honestly think it was one of the best shrimp and grits dishes I have ever had. My husband had the chicken and waffle and was very pleased as well. I had a bellini and my husband had a bloody mary and they were both very good as well. I would recommend this restaurant and would like to return for another brunch or try their dinner menu. Excellent waitress too!"

  • "Loved the service and the ambiance at GT Fish and Oyster Bar! It is definitely pricey, even for 2 people when we ordered one drink each and split a few things, it was over $100, so just be cognizant. I definitely suggest going for drinks and a few oysters! It's a great find."

  • "We went on a Wednesday night and the place was hopping. The highlight was our waiter - nice personality and very good, and paid us just enough attention without being in our faces all evening. The food was OK - none of the five things we ordered really stood out, but wee all competent. We had the smoked tuna (pretty good but a very small serving), clam chowder, oyster slider (the best thing we ate), mussels in tomato sauce (small mussels and the tomato-based sauce was average) and mac & cheese with lobster (barely there - expected more for an $18 dish). For the price, we really expected a lot more."

  • "We have been to GT Fish and Oysters before and felt that the dinner we had on Monday was not up to it's usual high standard. Out of the many items we ordered the claim chowder, squash blossoms, and mussels were wonderful. The rest was just ok and the most disappointing were the deserts. I hope this was just an off night."

  • "My mom and I went to GT's for brunch, we arrived early for our reservation and were able to be seated immediately. We got a table on the patio and it was delightful! We started with a mimosa and a Bloody Mary. Then we picked half a dozen oysters from their daily selection; all of which were delicious! My mom had the shrimp and grits and I had the chilaquiles with duck confit, both entrees were beautiful and tasted even better than they looked! Overall, a wonderful experience and I will definitely go back next time I'm in town."

  • "I've taken out-of-town family to GT Fish on two separate occasions, and both experiences were wonderful. The staff was friendly and welcoming, but professional. The oysters were impeccable. The menu is small plates. Between three diners, we ordered one squash blossom each, an oyster po-boy slider each, an order of fish and chips (3pcs), an order of fish tacos (3pcs), eggplant, two crabcakes, and a spinach gnocchi dish. We also started with a round of raw oysters (3 per person). This was more than enough food. This is my new go-to restaurant when I need to take people out for a nice meal with unique dishes."

Great server, he let us take our time ordering, oysters were impeccable and great for conversation as we made our way through the different regions they were from. Lobster roll. YES! Octopus. YES! Key Lime Dessert. YES! One of my favorite dining spots in the city."

  • "Always a fun and tasty dining experience. We always split a lobster roll and then get one or two cold staters and a couple of the somewhat larger portions of fish. Especially fond of corvina and halibut. The seasonal squash blossom poppers are tasty too and we never pass up on po boy friend oysters. Fruit cobble type deserts are in season. If you like the smaller sharing portions and love seafood this is the place to go."

  • "We went here based on the good reviews. We left thinking we had been duped. Brunch for 2 was over $100 and none of the dishes stood out as worth the price of admission. Service was great, outdoor seating was nice, but the food just wasn't that good. We had the Lobster Roll ($28), the Crab Benedict ($14), the fried oyster slider ($4 each), 6 oysters on the half shell ($18), and cocktails that were all over $12 each. If it weren't for the friendly service, this place would get only a single star for being overpriced and of such poor food quality."

The service was below average and the ambience was poor due to the noise level and the huge width of the table, which made it hard to converse. Neither one of us had dined there before and our server failed to mention how many dishes would be sufficient to feed the two of us. I don't think we will be back, but it was nice to try a new place."

  • "Louder than I expected. Definitely pricey, but overall I had a great time. Oysters we're definitely fantastic considering we're in the Midwest. Cocktails were also great. their take on fish and chips was really good. Fish broke up perfectly on the inside and the fried outer was crispy and crunchy like it's supposed to be. Fries were more like potato wedges and made great use of sea salt. Honestly though, next time I'll just get a lot more oysters. Those were my favorite part."

  • "We arrived via bus from The Drake downtown and it was very easy to get there - the bus stop is right across the street. We sat outside and the noise level was good and did not interfere with our conversation and the scenery pleasant. The staff was very knowledgeable, pleasant and attentive. The food was delicious! The waitress warned us the plates were small and we should get 4 - 6 for the two of us. We found they weren't all that small and ordered 1 starter and 3 plates and have PLENTY of food for the two of us. We would definitely come back on our next trip to Chicago!"

  • "My friend and I had a great experience at GT Fish and Oyster. The food was prepared beautifully and the flavors were equally impressive. I started with the Tuna Poke, oh my! So fresh with vibrant flavors. Then I went on to have a squash blossom stuffed with crab. Crunchy and creamy, wish I had a plate of them! For my entree I went with the PEI Mussels. I wish I had ordered something else. Although good, nothing special. I should have known because I prefer mussels in a white wine broth. The red sauce was delish, nothing against this dish. The dessert we shared was a Peanut Butter Malt Sundae. Get this dessert!! So many elements that just made this sundae anything but average. Spectacular!! My friend had the fish taco's and she raved!"

  • "Oysters here are delicious. But that's just the beginning. The clam chowder is the best I've ever had, hands down. The little jars it comes in are charming and lock the flavor in until you're ready to eat. The caesar is good but the dressing just sits on top (so order a side bc it's seriously amazing). The martinis are top notch. A dirty with blue cheese olives are to die for. If I had saved room for dessert, I'm sure I wouldn't have regretted it but I didn't... All in all, another fantastic meal."

  • "SO loud. My husband and I had to literally shout to hear each other across the small table. Food was average but very pricey for tiny portions. I get the tapas thing, but the price should reflect that. $21.00 for 2 bites of fish and a cherry tomato. Had to wait forever to get our drinks. Asked for no pork on fish tacos and they came with pork. Wanted a margarita with Patron and they didn't have Patron. Really? They had no name oysters I had never heard of from some river in Virginia. Yikes! Just disappointed on every level."

  • "Second visit here. We were very excited after our first experience. Despite having a reservation well in advance and a note stating it was our anniversary, we were seated in the bar area. The food was superb. We were looking around for refill on our bottle. In his defense, he seemed to have the whole section to himself. Probably would have stayed longer, ate and drank more if we weren't turned off on the seating and service. I would still recommend GT Fish and Oyster based on our first experience, but with a caveat."

  • "In a city, Chicago, bursting with great restaurants and bistros, GT Fish and Oyster stands out as one of the best. It has a vibrant ambiance with both inside and outside dining. The food was superb--fried oyster po' boy sliders, squash blossoms, and the best dish of the night, the smoked fish platter. The wine was terrific and cocktails looked delicious. The service was outstanding and friendly and the restaurant was packed with satisfied and bubbly patrons. A really great find."

  • "The place located just off of LaSalle, has a pretty cool scene. The servers were very nice and thorough. However the food was just ok. We had the oyster sliders which were good but not memorable. The fish tacos were good but I have had better elsewhere. The wild sockeye salmon was ok but not much better than I can prepare. The wine program was good as we had some nice wines by the glass. Overall a little disappointing."

  • "I met 2 friends for lunch here- thought the menu was somewhat limited- don't recommend it for picky eaters- but everything we ordered was delicious! Loved the shrimp bruschetta and the fish tacos as well as the deconstructed key lime pie. I will definitely return. Also our server was perfect and the room is classy if a bit noisy."

  • "Mmy family was in town to visit and they love seafood so I figured I will give GT a try. I went there 2 years ago remembering it was decent, not the best seafood I have ever had but it was decent for Chicago. This time however, I found the food doesn't live up to the hype. The portion was very small. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese since I remember liking it 2 years ago. I didn't remember there was frozen peas (which I might be biased, but I HATE frozen peas) and very little lobster. The tiny pieces of lobster that was in the mac and cheese wasn't even good lobster. I was trying to convince myself that it was good food, but there are many other options in the city to have a better and just as pricey seafood dinner."

  • "We enjoyed the oysters, though you'd hope an "oyster bar" would do a better job of shucking. Everything seemed to go downhill from there. It took a very long time for the entrées to arrive. When we asked, our server informed us that it was taking a bit longer because I had ordered medium-rare steak for my steak and eggs. Take a minute to think that one over. Anyway, when the mains arrived, the steak was more medium-well than anything...and it tasted quite bland. They did bring us a complimentary order of churros...but I really was left puzzled by the experience."
