Diner Reviews
  • "I had seen GT Fish & Oyster on a tv spot a few months prior to my Chicago trip and knew it had to be on my dining list. I was not disappointed. The selection of oysters was delightful, and the quality of the food lived up to the picture-worthy presentation. Great service, great experience. This is on my list of Chicago favorites."

  • "No complaints at all. The smoked platter was particularly fabulous!"

  • "I took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner and from start to finish the attentive staff and food was on point. Made a comment on open table about it being a dinner for my girlfriend's birthday and a complimentary dessert and gift card were presented to her. Another notable moment is when the manager came to our table and informed us that the bottle of wine we selected had just been sold out and he selected a true gem of a wine that we both fell in love with. The food was delicious. Every bite was packed with flavor and you could taste the attention to detail from the kitchen staff. We will be back and soon. Thanks for an amazing night!"

  • "I finally got to try the brunch and it was as good as the dinner. GT never misses a beet!"

  • "Despite having a reservation weeks in advance we were initially seated at a high table on barstools. When we balked, we had to wait a bit, and then were seated at one of those tables where on person sits on a bench along the wall. So many tables were packed in there, you were right up against the people at the next table. It was very noisy. The food was inconsistent - some dishes good, others not so good."

  • "I arrived punctually at noon and was brusquely informed by the hostess that I would be seated when the other member of my party arrived. She relented when I promised to order a beverage immediately. The room was empty. I politely asked a question about the valet service and what they might be doing with my car and she rudely replied, "I have no answer for that." While the hostess was off-putting, the food was delicious, light and seasonal. The table service was friendly and prompt. I would go back, but I have lowered my expectations."

  • "The food here speaks for itself, its great. Service is just what is to be expected of a high end dining experience. The wait staff is very attentive and accommodating and their support staff picks up on every need."

  • "I booked us brunch reservations for my birthday and was thrilled with our experience. We were among the first to arrive and had lovely seats on the patio. We order our first white negroni and bellini, both delicious, and started with a series of oysters. We love kumamoto, which were part of the options, and our waitress made good recommendations for the others. We ordered the lobster biscuits and gravy and the crab benedict for our meals, and both were excellent. The portions were just right... we arrived hungry after a pretty brisk walk, and we were perfectly satisfied when we left...full but not stuffed. I would love to go back again for lunch or dinner to really experience the indoor atmosphere and dining options. Great find!"

  • "Having tried Kinmont and GT Fish and Oyster within three days of each other, I would absolutely return to Kinmont, but not to GT. The food was fine, but the atmosphere and service were not up to par."

  • "A group of 5 of us went to GT Fish and Oyster to celebrate a friend's birthday on a Tuesday evening. The reservation went very smoothly and true to their word, we were sitting at a table within a few minutes of arriving. One of the things that distinguishes a good restaurant from a great one is the details. The attendants at GT Fish and Oyster did a great job. From folding our napkins for us while we were using the restroom to never allowing our cups of water to be less than half full, we were treated like distinguished guests. The timing of the dishes was just right, with a new dish or two coming out right as we finished the one before. They even surprised our birthday guest with happy birthday written on her dessert plate!"

  • "Great food. Unfortunately, we showed up 15 mins late for a 5:30 reservation for 2 and the unfriendly hostess immediately said she couldn't seat us even though there were at least 5 tables for two (in immediate area) that sat empty the entire time we were there. We sat at the communal space in the bar instead and enjoyed great oysters. We may give it one more try on-time due to the oysters."

  • "This is a small plate restaurant but we did not know that when we arrived. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server Agnes, who by the way was awesome, immediately informed us about the "small plate" menu once we told her we had never dined there. We ordered 5 plates as recommended to share for the 2 of us. Each was brought out individually giving us plenty of time to relax and enjoy. Great place with professional and friendly staff from start to finish."

  • "We really enjoyed the food at GT Fish and Oyster, we had some dishes (eggplant) that we would have never ordered with out our servers suggestion. Our sever and busperson were fantastic and overall had a great meal. It was a little more than we would want to spend for small plates, but it was exellent."

  • "GT fish and oyster has the hotness factor, but not much else to draw us back. Servers were friendly, service was prompt, oysters were good, but this is a place to go impress a date or business dinner. Nothing stands out."

  • "Seafood prepared with a unique slant. Many small plates available so you can get to taste a large variety of this outstanding food. Excellent service. Certainly merits a return visit."

  • "I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and we loved the fish tacos, squash blossoms and sliders! We ordered a ton of food and left full and satisfied. We had a fabulous server as well :)"

  • "We went here based on a friend's recommendation and I am so glad that we did! The service was great - the waiter gave us a lot of drink and food recommendations and they paced the meal well (it is small plates so you don't want to get everything at once) and cleared our plates after pretty much every dish. Everything we had was delicious, but the lobster roll stood out as the best - I almost ordered a second one! The mussels were also amazing! I am not an oyster person, but they had tons of options if you are looking for oysters as well. This is a great find in River North!"

  • "We tried for a while to get reservations here and finally made it. This is a great, rather casual place that offers outstanding seafood. From the fresh oysters through the lobster roll, each of the small plates we shared (my recommended way to eat here) were outstanding. We also tried the fish tacos and an eggplant dish that was very tasty, but was more of a side than a stand-alone course to our taste. Friendly service. Simple black and white decor. We look forward to going back and sampling many more dishes."

  • "Disappointed with our recent brunch experience at GT Fish. Starter of various west coast Oysters was terrific, but brunch experience was blemished by the indifference of our server, who over the course of 15 minutes - failed to bring part of our brunch order; then after waving her down, acknowledged that the missing item "would be right out;" then the server vanished; then after another attempt at flagging down our server, she expressed surprise that the missing items had not been served. Surprised? Isn't this her job? After canceling the missing item, we were immediately presented with the check. No apology, no attempt at offering coffee or dessert. By that time, we were so disappointed by our GT experience that we were happy to escape."

  • "Brunch here is wonderfully creative. We only had savory items. Lobster roll, oysters: fresh & sliders; duck chilaquiles. It was all Wonderful."

  • "The staff was very accommodating as I had to change our brunch reservation from 4 to 8. There was no wait for our table, but we we had an earlier reservation. It was standing room only by the time we left. Everyone enjoyed their choice for brunch selection, they ran out of the chicken and waffles on our table alone. And although there was a quiche selection, they had run out of that one to. Bring your appetite and good amount of time as it is a relaxing atmosphere."

  • "If you havnt experiences their oyster sliders , then you havnt experienced oyster sliders. This was my first visit and I hope to be going back many more times. Such a cool place with amazing food choices to share. And of course - get the oyster slider if you know what's good for you."

  • "The oyster sliders with the soft bun and the crunchy kimchi was fabulous as was the smoked whitefish quiche. The crust was rich and buttery, the center perfectly 'custardy' and the smoked whitefish was so reminiscent of bacon (for one who hasn't eaten it in years), that I almost cried. The service was spot-on. The lobster biscuits and gravy was not good--tough lobster, dry biscuits and bland gravy."

  • "I celebrated my fiancé's birthday here, and the food was great. Some servings are pretty small, but taste great. Try the Lobster roll, you will not regret it. Also, they will add a candle and write Happy Birthday on their desert, just ask. They also gave her a $20 gift card for our next visit, which was a nice treat."

  • "The oysters were tiny. the Caesar salad was not grilled and didn't even taste like Caesar salad at all. Neither of us took more than 2 bites. The lobster rolls were bad. The lobster pieces in it were very small. The lobster certainly didn't come from the tail. for $28 we expected some lobster chucks. I ordered an Absolute White Russian which was 10% vodka, 3% Kalua and the rest milk. I would discourage anyone from going to your restaurant. We complained to the manager and he was rude. His comment was that the restaurant "wasn't to everyone's taste" insinuating it was our taste that was the problem. ."
