GT Fish and OysterExtraordinaryAs always, an amazing dining experience. Excellent food, skilled staff and a wonderful Reisling. What more you could want?6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible!Amazing food and service. One of the best meals we've had in Chicago in a long time. We will be back for sure. Make sure you get the Oyster Po' Boy sliders and the lobster mac and cheese.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGT is our fave spot. Period. We have been to GT Fish & Oyster countless times, on varying occasions. We've been there on several date nights and have also gone in with large groups.
Their wine list is incredible. We have always found a great bottle of wine, whether it is middle of the road price, or a special occasion bottle; either at the suggestion of the bartender or server, or one we've chosen ourselves.
We can't get enough of their dishes and the best part is that the menu is always changing. No matter how often we return, there is always something new and INCREDIBLE, and they always manage to keep our absolute favorite dishes. GT is one of our top two restaurants in all of Chicago, and we've been to a lot of great places....6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't wait to make it back again!Octopus is amazing! Everything was beyond scrumptious!
Only slight issue was that staff seemed a little disorganized. I think we may have seen and been served by at least 6 different people.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMServiceWe missed our reservation but were able to sit at the bar. Jordan was our tender and he was more than occomidating! Our experience was great and the oysters were outstanding.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWelcomingThe experience is enhanced not only by the great food but also the welcoming environment.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMNot amazingI expected something fantastic, but found it to be just above average. Softshell crab was over fried and too salty. Desserts way too sweet.
Oysters were fresh (as one should not expect anything less, fresh is still average), but presentation was below average.
Nice staff, long wait, but good atmosphere. Too average based on the hype and expectation.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMussels!Looking at GTs menu made me realize, again, how much I enjoy seafood. The mussels were fantastic, and the star of our show. The whisky, all varieties, was impressive.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOysters, Lunch and OMG LemonadeWe had lunch at the bar and had a great time.
We started with oysters (tried 3 different kinds, the staff was great at explaining the difference) and then had the fish tacos (light and delicious) and the fish sandwich, which happened to be soft shell crab (also fab, with great homemade chips).
But perhaps my favorite thing on the menu was the spiked Betty Jean Lemonade - OMG. I could have drank that all day. In fact, we went back a second time just so I could have another one!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Birthday Dinner ... EVERI went for my birthday this week and could not have been more satisfied. I went with some friends and we ordered 6 dishes to split; every dish that came out was more amazing than the last. We ordered the bruschetta, fish tacos, soft-shell crab, lobster mac 'n cheese, crab cake, and the mussels. The service was great, or waiter had a great attitude. The dessert they brought was some type of banana, dark chocolate, and raspberry amazingness. Overall, I had an amazing birthday and GT really added to it!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for any occasion!Whether celebrating an anniversary/birthday or meeting friends/family for brunch or dinner, our "go-to" restaurant is GT Fish and Oyster. From perfectly mixed cocktails to desserts(ok, now I'm salivating remembering the salted caramel tart!), we are always beyond pleased. Not to be missed is the Clam Chowder with homemade oyster crackers, which could be overlooked with the plethora of choices on the menu. I LOVE that it is 'small plates' and you can try a few different dishes. One of the dishes we tried this past visit was the pork belly. My husband and I agreed that it was outstanding! The oysters are the best I've had in Chicago and if you happen to be there after 10 p.m., they are 1/2 price. Fun to stop & have a drink/oysters late night!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLiked it!Good food & great ambiance. We went for lunch, and I would love to go back for dinner.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyableWe had a great long lunch, great (female) server who was superb at recommending dishes and oysters.
Love the Tuna BLT and the Lobster Roll5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMArtistic Seafood DelightRecommend GT Fish and Oyster to all seafood lovers whether you're a novice or a connoisseur; the creative tapas format was perfect to experiment with a variety of seafood prepared in a way that satiated your taste buds. Service staff was fantastic- helpful without overbearing on choices and intelligently anticipated our needs with always a willingness to make the dining experience enjoyable. Then the restaurant topped that off with a gift certificate "thank you" for selecting GT Fish and Oyster for our Anniversary.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional Food and Service!Truly a great dining experience in Chicago! The food was all prepared properly and the service was impeccable. Our server (Jordan) did a tremendous job. I will be back again and again!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMImaginative small platesThis is a hot ticket for a reason. Great small plates with orchestrated service. Bar area is bit noisey but dining area conversation is fine. Plan on spending a lot of money but you will enjoy the experience.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMStupid good. From the moment you walk in the door at GT Fish & Oyster, you know you're someplace special! The decor is fantastic - subtle, almost ethereal designs on the chalkboard painted walls, eclectic furnishings and high quality glassware (I know it's weird, but I think it says a lot about a restaurant.) The food is amazing, and the fact that it's on small plates means you can try a wide variety. The service was flawless, and the sommelier (who may have been the floor manager) deftly guided my wine choices. All in all, this was a truly memorable experience and one I look forward to repeating on a future trip to the windy city!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a winner! We eat here fairly regularly when we can get a reservation... seafood is innovative and super fresh; careful attention is paid to the preparation because nearly every dish on the menu (and I have tried nearly all of them) is a winner! My favorite are the oyster & kimchee sliders.. order extras because you will wish you had after you take your first bite.. The crudo of the day is also a winner and a def must as it sets this restaurant apart from many others.. They get the fish right! Came back on this occasion for my husband's birthday and it was yet another memorable meal!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellence! One of my all-time favorites because food is fantastic and service is warm and helpful.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMHaven't Been Wrong Yet...For the second time in 6 weeks, I experienced an exceptional meal, cozy yet comfortable atmosphere, and personal attention of the utmost friendliness from the staff at GT fish & Oyster.
A former colleague and my once-mentor was in town and I was eager to show an insider's look at Chicago. The hosts were very accommodating when we asked to move our table to the bar instead. Flexibility and courteousness to the customer is always highly regarded. The bartender offered insightful and knowledgeable wine recommendations. My colleague and I stuffed ourselves heartily and had a great time. The noise level grew as the night wore on, as expected, but it added to the buzzing energy to the restaurant. All around, another rewarding meal at GT Oyster!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AM10:00 am Sunday brunchWe arrived at 10:00 am for our brunch reservation and walked in to a low key setting. We sat at the bar and had a wonderful meal accompanied by a few boozy cocktails. Bartenders were great, knowledgable, and helpful in regards to travel plans and public transportation. The food was fantastic. We tried shrimp and grits, crab Benedict, and the duck chilequiles. I highly recommend.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely one of the bestDefinitely one of the best seafood places in Chicago. Excellent service with outstanding food that you can tell is incredibly fresh. Every dish we tried was great, and the dessert was amazing!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMStellarbrilliant, fun, approachable food in a terrific space with top notch staff5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMoysters oysters oystersexcellent food (especially impressed by freshness of oysters!), and had a nice interior and atmosphere, though noise level made it difficult to carry a conversation. came toward the end of the night, and service was a little spotty, which lessened the dining experience.
came with older family members, felt a little out of place amidst a mostly younger population. would recommend as nice dinner location for gathering with a few friends, seems less fit for large groups.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMVery fresh seafoodWe shared a dozen oysters followed by a large seafood platter . Perfectly prepared and artfully presented . Only problem is the how busy they are . Get reservtions !5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMNever SurprisedThis is hands down my favorite restaurant in the city! And has been for the past year and half. Consistency is key here. I
have always received great food and top notch service each time I have been here. These guys continue to deliver and I will continue to frequent this restaurant.
A few of my favorite dishes are: shrimp bruschetta, tuna poke, oyster po' boy and lobster roll.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed very tasty food inEnjoyed very tasty food in an outside setting for lunch. The chef made all our food taste SO good that you know that he/she really knows culinary arts. Would return again for lunch or dinner.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorableEach small dish was a lovely combination of flavors and textures -- I highly recommend the grilled octopus and the fish tacos. The kitchen knows what it's doing, and the waitstaff are pleasant and helpful. If you forego the alcohol, you can get an excellent meal for a very reasonable price.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorite restaurants. One of my favorite restaurants. I made a reservation at GT Fish & Oyster to celebrate with my kid sister her graduation from university and I couldn't be happier with the experience we received: the atmosphere and staff were charming, the food was impeccably executed and beautifully presented, every dish was delicious, and the entire service apparatus was gracious and thoughtful. The menu boasts an impressive assortment of self-proclaimed "simple" food with a decidedly elegant flair and tasty combination of flavors. First rate hospitality and dining.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAMAZING food! All small platesAMAZING food! All small plates and all delicious. :)5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGet the Oyster Po'boy. AMAZING!!Get the Oyster Po'boy. AMAZING!! We had that...and also, the ceviche, shrimp bruschetta, etc...everything was just incredible!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGT, you are radicalI went here based on a friends recommendation for my anniversary. He was 110% spot-on with telling me about this gem. The service and food were amazing. The tall glass ceilings allow you to watch your surroundings while you dine on oysters and other treats. Try the oyster po boy slider as well as the oysters. If you're disappointed, you should reassess your palette.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMImpeccably fresh fishHelpful and personable staff, restaurant itself is a bit sterile looking and on the noisy side.
Would happily return.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything we ate was veryEverything we ate was very interesting and quite enjoyable. Of note... I have never seen a dessert menu where I literally could have ordered ANYTHING and been happy (usually there are a couple of "nah, I don't need that" items)-- I wanted every dessert on that menu, they all sounded fantastic.
I will definitely go back. Also, they made sure to treat us "special"- it was our anniversary, and I really appreciated them being extra attentive.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat new chic city spot withGreat new chic city spot with fantastic food. Our waitress was really knowledgable and helped us with menu decisions. Bartender and cocktails also great. Hostess a little hassled and "short" with us, but otherwise a fabulous dining experience. This is one of my new "faves" and will definitely be back. Highly recommend if you love fish and seafood.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMIn Chicago on business withIn Chicago on business with two colleagues and just wanted to get out to a new seafood spot with a great ambience. We were overwhelmed, the service was fantastic, great attention to detail, very knowledgeable staff with great attitude. And the dishes - just out of this world, a great eclectic approach to flavor and textural combinations that appealed to our Caribbean palate. We need to return soon!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat brunch sceneWe were very surprised how busy and energetic the atmosphere was when we stopped here on a whim for brunch. I'm so happy to see some good food in the Midwest that isn't fried or battered ou of taste!!!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place at LoopThe GT is a great place to exit the touristic Loop and eat great food. The interior is cozy and modern. The menu is great with small portions "like tapas" to try different recipes. I do advice!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMrich fare for lunchFood was very tasty. Had lobster roll, pork belly slider, lobster mac & cheese. Everything very rich so even though plates are touted as "small" you may be sated sooner than expected. Lobster roll was on grilled oiled bread and came with sides of pickled vegetables and fried onion shreds. The floor was sticky in the area of our table, and sadly worn in other areas in view.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGT is a MUST TryThe food is genuinely unbelievable. My girlfriend and I went to celebrate her birthday after hearing all wonderful things from friends and co-workers. We ordered a bunch of different things to try. The sunfish ceviche was the only item we were not all that impressed with. All we tasted was citrus flavor. The tuna poke was outstanding. The grilled octopus was tender and delicious. The beer mustard wasabi that came with it was a perfect compliment and the hearts of palm are a nice touch. We were reluctant at first, but the waitress convinced us to try the oyster po'boy sliders and we were thrilled that we did. The waitress described them as "little flavor explosions" and she was spot on. Last, we had the lobster roll. Simply put, it's a must.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGTOThe best food I've had in a long time! It's worth the wait to get in.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
