Diner Reviews
  • "Oysters here are delicious. But that's just the beginning. The clam chowder is the best I've ever had, hands down. The little jars it comes in are charming and lock the flavor in until you're ready to eat. The caesar is good but the dressing just sits on top (so order a side bc it's seriously amazing). The martinis are top notch. A dirty with blue cheese olives are to die for. If I had saved room for dessert, I'm sure I wouldn't have regretted it but I didn't... All in all, another fantastic meal."

  • "We had eaten dinner here this winter and made a return visit for brunch. We were out on the patio this time. They could use some umbrellas for shade and service was a bit spotty. Food was quite tasty."

  • "SO loud. My husband and I had to literally shout to hear each other across the small table. Food was average but very pricey for tiny portions. I get the tapas thing, but the price should reflect that. $21.00 for 2 bites of fish and a cherry tomato. Had to wait forever to get our drinks. Asked for no pork on fish tacos and they came with pork. Wanted a margarita with Patron and they didn't have Patron. Really? They had no name oysters I had never heard of from some river in Virginia. Yikes! Just disappointed on every level."

  • "Second visit here. We were very excited after our first experience. Despite having a reservation well in advance and a note stating it was our anniversary, we were seated in the bar area. The food was superb. We were looking around for refill on our bottle. In his defense, he seemed to have the whole section to himself. Probably would have stayed longer, ate and drank more if we weren't turned off on the seating and service. I would still recommend GT Fish and Oyster based on our first experience, but with a caveat."

  • "The place located just off of LaSalle, has a pretty cool scene. The servers were very nice and thorough. However the food was just ok. We had the oyster sliders which were good but not memorable. The fish tacos were good but I have had better elsewhere. The wild sockeye salmon was ok but not much better than I can prepare. The wine program was good as we had some nice wines by the glass. Overall a little disappointing."

  • "Mmy family was in town to visit and they love seafood so I figured I will give GT a try. I went there 2 years ago remembering it was decent, not the best seafood I have ever had but it was decent for Chicago. This time however, I found the food doesn't live up to the hype. The portion was very small. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese since I remember liking it 2 years ago. I didn't remember there was frozen peas (which I might be biased, but I HATE frozen peas) and very little lobster. The tiny pieces of lobster that was in the mac and cheese wasn't even good lobster. I was trying to convince myself that it was good food, but there are many other options in the city to have a better and just as pricey seafood dinner."

  • "Great seafood - oysters were delicious. Oyster sliders were awesome as was the lobster roll!"

  • "We enjoyed the oysters, though you'd hope an "oyster bar" would do a better job of shucking. Everything seemed to go downhill from there. It took a very long time for the entrées to arrive. When we asked, our server informed us that it was taking a bit longer because I had ordered medium-rare steak for my steak and eggs. Take a minute to think that one over. Anyway, when the mains arrived, the steak was more medium-well than anything...and it tasted quite bland. They did bring us a complimentary order of churros...but I really was left puzzled by the experience."

  • "This would be one of my only negative reviews after a few hundred reservations on Open Table. To be clear, the food was great, as I have come to expect from GT. My girlfriend and I arrived at 8:29 for our 8:30 reservation. We weren't seated until 8:50. We were put at a 4-top, which is fine, but lacks some intimacy. Service was spotty from our main server. Bus boys attempted to clear half eaten plates twice. Bill was brought, without us asking for it, before we had a chance to order coffee. This was probably my 7th or 8th visit to GT, unlikely to be back for some time."

  • "We had a nice experience at GT Fish & Oyster. The food was great, and the service was solid. We weren't disappointed by any courses, though we were particularly impressed with the Fish & Chips and the shrimp bruschetta. Oh, and the desserts were yummy also! I just wanted it all to be slightly less expensive."

  • "The food was very good at GT Fish & Oyster, although the portions are a tad on the small side. You need to order two or three or even four courses to get a meal. Halibut was very nice - at some restaurants the portion size was more of an appetizer. The restaurant is very very very noisy if you are in the front room by the bar. Not a fun experience. We asked to sit in the other room away from the noise but no tables were available without waiting which we choose not to do. It was hard to even hear any specials from the waiters. The restaurant will be fine, just beware of portion size and the noise"

  • "I have now been here 5 times for lunch -- each time I have been shocked at how poor the service is. For a restaurant that charges what they do that is as empty as it is, the lack of attention and poor service is unacceptable."

  • "Had dinner here with my wife and son. In from Philadelphia for the evening. As an Interior Designer I loved the hip clean style. I would call it Upscale Boutique Nantucket. As a diner the food was fabulous. Small plates but the quality and flavor overcame that. Drinks were good and the staff was very attentive and informative. I recommend it HIGHLY!"

  • "I was lured to this restaurant by the good reviews....for our group - it was OK. Definitely a trendy spot -- but, food was nothing that I would go back for. Portion sizes were small - restaurant was really loud - and service was ok...people should try it - maybe it would appeal to a different demographic than a fifty-something group."

  • "...with a contemporary twist. Hailing from Cape Cod, found the selections of classics to be delightful (i.e. NE Clam Chowder, Fish and Chips and Lobster Roll). Oysters are kept alive in a tank at the bar until they are shucked to order. Great cocktail, beer and wine selection to compliment the fresh seafood. When the restaurant got unexpectedly busy, the service didn't suffer as other team members filled in the gaps for each others' tables. Will be back again, thanks!"

  • "Great Oysters, but I didn't think the rest of the food was that great. I had the fish tacos, a fried squash blossom stuffed with fish, some crudo, and few other things on the menu. The food was good, but I didn't think it was a place that I had to go back to. The service was really great and the drinks were good. I think I would go back if I just wanted to grab a drink and oysters at the bar. I wouldn't sit down their again, the bill was very expensive as well."

  • "I was pretty excited to try GT fish and oyster, but overall the food was barely mediocre. The cocktails were all right. Our waiter was impossible to flag down he brought our oysters (nothing special at all- I've had way better) and then 15-20 min later he finally came back and took our food order. Long story short- I will not be eating here again and I'm not planning to recommend this place."

  • "The service and style of the place are very good, but the food is average at best and certainly overpriced. I have heard great things about this place from other people, so maybe my expectations were too high, but I didn't enjoy it at all and I won't go back."

  • "Great food, service, presentation, and wine list. The fish and chips, the shrimp bruschetta, the mussels, the halibut, squash blossoms, and the poor boy oyster sliders were amazing. We will definitely be back."

  • "I had seen GT Fish & Oyster on a tv spot a few months prior to my Chicago trip and knew it had to be on my dining list. I was not disappointed. The selection of oysters was delightful, and the quality of the food lived up to the picture-worthy presentation. Great service, great experience. This is on my list of Chicago favorites."

  • "Despite having a reservation weeks in advance we were initially seated at a high table on barstools. When we balked, we had to wait a bit, and then were seated at one of those tables where on person sits on a bench along the wall. So many tables were packed in there, you were right up against the people at the next table. It was very noisy. The food was inconsistent - some dishes good, others not so good."

  • "I arrived punctually at noon and was brusquely informed by the hostess that I would be seated when the other member of my party arrived. She relented when I promised to order a beverage immediately. The room was empty. I politely asked a question about the valet service and what they might be doing with my car and she rudely replied, "I have no answer for that." While the hostess was off-putting, the food was delicious, light and seasonal. The table service was friendly and prompt. I would go back, but I have lowered my expectations."

  • "I booked us brunch reservations for my birthday and was thrilled with our experience. We were among the first to arrive and had lovely seats on the patio. We order our first white negroni and bellini, both delicious, and started with a series of oysters. We love kumamoto, which were part of the options, and our waitress made good recommendations for the others. We ordered the lobster biscuits and gravy and the crab benedict for our meals, and both were excellent. The portions were just right... we arrived hungry after a pretty brisk walk, and we were perfectly satisfied when we left...full but not stuffed. I would love to go back again for lunch or dinner to really experience the indoor atmosphere and dining options. Great find!"

  • "I took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner and from start to finish the attentive staff and food was on point. Made a comment on open table about it being a dinner for my girlfriend's birthday and a complimentary dessert and gift card were presented to her. Another notable moment is when the manager came to our table and informed us that the bottle of wine we selected had just been sold out and he selected a true gem of a wine that we both fell in love with. The food was delicious. Every bite was packed with flavor and you could taste the attention to detail from the kitchen staff. We will be back and soon. Thanks for an amazing night!"

  • "A group of 5 of us went to GT Fish and Oyster to celebrate a friend's birthday on a Tuesday evening. The reservation went very smoothly and true to their word, we were sitting at a table within a few minutes of arriving. One of the things that distinguishes a good restaurant from a great one is the details. The attendants at GT Fish and Oyster did a great job. From folding our napkins for us while we were using the restroom to never allowing our cups of water to be less than half full, we were treated like distinguished guests. The timing of the dishes was just right, with a new dish or two coming out right as we finished the one before. They even surprised our birthday guest with happy birthday written on her dessert plate!"

  • "Great food. Unfortunately, we showed up 15 mins late for a 5:30 reservation for 2 and the unfriendly hostess immediately said she couldn't seat us even though there were at least 5 tables for two (in immediate area) that sat empty the entire time we were there. We sat at the communal space in the bar instead and enjoyed great oysters. We may give it one more try on-time due to the oysters."
