Diner Reviews
  • "GT is amazing. Their oysters are delicious and that's where is all begins. The staff is knowledgeable enough so you can pretty much just sit back and let them bring you their recommendations. You can't leave without tasting the clam chowder (best I've ever had). Can't go wrong with the Tuna Poke either. So good."

  • "Oysters are the best in the city and The Waitlist (cocktail) is my new favorite drink!"

  • "I didn't expect the clam chowder to be the best I'd ever had! I think this was my 3rd visit and still finding new and outstanding surprises at GT! Recommended!"

  • "Being recommended to us as one of the Restaurants to visit during the IPW event. I made a reservation getting good seafood. But it was average, and a lobster I could only get in a bred bun? Why can't you server lobster as is ? ."

  • "I really enjoyed the food at GT. Fresh, delicious food and creative presentations. The wine list could improve. Attentive wait staff- maybe too attentive. From the time we sat down until we left we felt rushed. More rushed than other patrons. The waiter corrected my French :) and I speak fluent French!! They hovered over our conversation and moved dishes when we were still eating. Even when I asked for a little peace and complained under my voice the waiter thought it was a joke. I may go back to give them another chance but the dinner was downright annoying!!"

  • "My wife entertained a few colleagues for a business lunch and everybody loved the food and had a really enjoyable time. A great menu; one of a a small handful of venues in Chicago where you can consistently receive fresh, high quality, perfectly executed seafood. Service is always warm and attentive. Throw in a great beverage program, a nice space and reasonable prices and you have a true gem of a venue."

  • "Every item we had was delicious! Great small plates, great recommendations from our server, excellent service! Not a bad dish on the menu!"

  • "Food is amazing! Somewhat loud inside with techno music playing. Food prices are fair drinks are silly expensive $9 for a beer."

  • "This is my favorite restaurant in Chicago. It is great for a group of 4-6, or perfect for a date night. The atmosphere is perfect because it's always a little loud and fun, but the lighting is dim and great for an intimate dinner. It is impossible not to want everything on the menu. Start with oysters and work all the way through to dessert. I've been several times and I'm always so anxious to go back. And don't forget the cocktails, as they are some of the best in Chicago!"

  • "One of my favorite spots for business lunches, cocktails and date night."

  • "I love this place. The food is always good and typically the atmosphere is as well. The problem wasn't GT's. It was the police and haz mat trucks outside with flashing lights the entire night. I'm surprised no one had a seizure while we were there. That said, I will go back again and again... I'll just walk away if the lights are flashing though."

  • "My 1st visit to GT Fish & Oyster definitely won't be my last. The staff was attentive and respected our desire to sit and talk over a wonderful array of fresh oysters. Also enjoyed GT's take on a Cesar Salad -- killer fried oyster "croutons.""

  • "We all really enjoyed our evening here. Very friendly staff, lovely table, great food and excellent service. I particularly enjoy the small plate menu format - perfect for a group and a casual meal. We ordered 6 different items for a party of 3, it was perfect and each was delicious. Fun night!"

  • "Shared a dozen oysters to start and they were great. Wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. The smoked whitefish quiche was different and I loved it! Lobster biscuits and gravy were delicious too. Bloody Mary had veggies and shrimp on the skewer - mmmm!"

  • "Been wanting to try GT and got great reviews from friends so I made a reservation 2 weeks out and could still only get 6:15p at the latest. We had oysters, clam chowder, an oyster po'boy, fish tacos and lobster Mac and cheese. My mouth is watering thinking of it! The clam chowder was out of this world and I also loved the fish tacos. Everything was delicious and super fresh. Can't wait go back!"

  • "My wife and I had lunch at GT to celebrate my birthday. There are plenty of options on the menu but we chose to split the seared tuna salad and the grilled fish sandwich which were both good. Also, we each tried the oyster po' boy which is excellent. We finished our meal with the key lime dessert which was tasty. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and will try to go back for dinner."

  • "We had an absolutely wonderful time at GT for my birthday dinner this Tuesday evening! The food was perfection - so fresh and thoughtfully prepared. A real treat for any seafood lover. We really had a great time - and it will certainly not be our last!"

  • "Could not believe how delicious each dish was. Service was outstanding. This was my first time but will definitely be back. Tuna poke amazing, fish tacos out of this world. The eggplant. Mmm! It was a great spot for a birthday. Nothing negative to say."

  • "The food was good, the clam chowder was really good. However, the portions are small and it is expensive. Would probably not go back again."

  • "Simply amazing seafood!! Everything dish was fantastic and the oyster poboy sliders were my favorite."

  • "The variety and taste of oysters was superb. It was so hard to choose what seafood to order. The tuna salad was enough to share. We loved the west coast oysters the best. The deserts were elegant Y prepared and extremely good. Aside from the food being amazing, the service was top notch. Friend.y and extremely attentive. Thanks for a wonderful dining experience!"

  • "I have always wanted to come visit this place and it was just simply amazing. Our server was great and she made great suggestions on drinks. Every single dish I had for Chef's week was just delightful. I definitely cannot wait to go back."

  • "The food is excellent but the prices on the menu include the cost of being with the movers and shakers. Have lunch for a better value and skip the scene at night. That said, quality is evident and freshness is a given."

  • "This is our new favorite Chicago place -- this was our second visit, and it was just as fantastic as the first. We had the octopus -- different prep than the last time, but equally amazing -- plus the smoked seafood platter and the crude platter. Both were filled with smaller-portion masterpieces. It's great to know we can dine here while in Chicago -- just wish it was closer to home!"

  • "I went there with my friend for chef week. The clam chowder and lobster roll are amazing! Love it!"

  • "I've been to other restaurants for Chef's Week and Chicago Week before. Most of the time it's been disappointing so I was happily surprised when we were handed the special menus and saw what was being offered. Yes, the portions were small but not so small that there was nothing left on the plate after the first mouthful. The portion size was just enough so one got a lingering impression of the dish. The presentation and flavors were very good and offered the diner a nice sampling. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu."

  • "Loved all of it. Cant wait to go back for brunch. Definitely getting the lobster roll and a bloody."

  • "Our small group had lunch at GT F&O to celebrate a birthday. The service was pretty good: drinks proactively refilled, empty plates taken away promptly, server very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. A nice personal touch: I mentioned that it was a birthday celebration while making a reservation and the restaurant took notice: our server presented the birthday lady a $20 gift certificate, and the dessert came with a "Happy Birthday" message and a candle. The food was very good. We split a dozen oysters (chef's choice), which were fresh. Clam chowder was good, though a little too salty for my taste. Lobster roll was excellent. Wine list is fairly extensive; we had a bottle of pretty good viognier for about $40."

  • "Each dish seemed to have an exciting play on a classic recipe that really took it home! My family chose from the Chef's Week Menu and then tried each other's dishes. There wasn't one thing i tried and didn't like. The presentation was beautiful and the entire restaurant is so well themed! Wonderful touches like small appetizer plates in the shape of oysters shells added to the rope strewn lighting throughout. It's a theme that can come off tacky but does not at GT oyster!"

  • "The food was imaginatively prepared and the service was very good. The clam chowder is so good that it is worth stopping in on its own. The shrimp bruschetta is a great start to a meal. The lemon panna cotta was one of the best I have tasted. My only quibble was that the vegetables were so heavily salted that eating the zucchini was more like tasting a green pretzel."

  • "The lobster roll is amazing. Make sure you also order the seared ahi tuna salad. The ingredients are super fresh, the service is top notch and the quality of dining is spot on."
