Even though we ate a lot, we did not leave feeling stuffed. We loved the use of local produce, meat and fish and thought the combination of ingredients was thoughtful, imaginative and tastie. It's a large menu which isn't always easy to execute but they did. There is something for everyone without being repetitive of what you see everywhere else. We will definitely go back. The selection of food is extensive, with unique dishes such as an "asparagus tasting". The food itself is fabulous: flavorful, with an execellent presentation. prices are quite reasonable; we chose the sampler and had more than enough to eat. And the butterscotch pudding...sinful! Loved the "taster" menu--an eclectic variety of wonderfully prepared food. The "al fresco" dining was particularly appreciated on a beautiful June evening. There are many restaurants to choose from in Grand Rapids, but I would put this at the top of the list. Friendly, unpretentious, but sophisticated. Don't bring your kids. We have been a fan of The Grove from day one but I have to say that over time they continue to improve and now have the best food available outside of Chicago or New York. Their ability to change the menu daily with the most creative farm to table presentations is nothing short of amazing. The Essence group has been doing great restaurants for years and continues to do great food at Bistro Bella Vita and The Greenwell but have taken it to another level with The Grove. A well trained service staff with great attitudes completes the experience. Kitchen gets a standing ovation. I have been there three times and have ordered the taste of the Grove each time never repeating and can say that everything was great. I love how the chef seems to deconstruct a dish, like jambalaya, and then somehow get all of the flavor profiles together on a plate that looks like art. There hasn't been a disappointing plate. My best friend and I went and each ordered the taste of the Grove, ordered different choices and shared, 6 plates total. Each of us agreed that every bite we had was outstanding. Neither of us expected to be able to say that. If you are not a huge eater, I would recommend the 3 courses for 433...then there is a comfortably full feeling without feeling stuffed AND you will have room for the delicious dessert.

The three course meal for $33 left me telling anyone and everyone that it was one of the best meals I have ever had anywhere. Each course offered several selections that I would have liked to have tried. Our server was at the table within a minute of us being seated. She was very knowledgeable about the menu, and was not hesitant to suggest entrees when one of us was torn between two different items.
The plating of each course was amazing! The food was beautifully and creatively presented, and full of flavor. The three of us ordered different items for our 3 for $33 dining experience, so we were able to sample 9 different dishes...each dish was fantastic!

Only problem was deciding what to order which has me dying to come back to try a number of playes, notably the butternut squash bisque the gentleman next to me ordered. Great margarita complemented the tacos perfectly. The constantly changing menu and exciting way that the chef presents the seasonal selections is both innovative and delicious. Grove is always on my list of places to bring out of town guests to impress them with the quality of both food and service that Grove exhibits. The weekends are busy with more activity but for a quiet, less busy experience the early weekdays like Tuesday are perfect. The 3 course tasting menu where you get one choice from all 3 menu sections is the perfect way to really get to enjoy what is being offered. It is only $33 per person to do this and you will eat like a king.
