Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I each did the three course dinner and it was amazing! I had a mushroom risotto dish to start that was one of the best I've ever had! I will definitely be back!!!"

  • "Grove is by far the best restaurant in Grand Rapids. The 3 for $35 tasting menu allows you to try a wide variety of great food on this ever changing menu. We have been there several times now, and I have yet to be disappointed by a dish. It is fresh, local, and creative."

  • "Once again we had an amazing experience - the food and service are second to none."

  • "Grove was a great choice for my mothers birthday. Great energy. Awesome menu with many choices from snacks. Small plates and entrées. We opted to share several small plates to share. Loved the shrimp and grits and pork belly tacos. Full bar with special drink menu. Looking forward to a return visit."

  • "That's about the best word to describe my experience. I chose their 3-course meal for $35 and it was more food than I could eat. Every dish was delicately assembled and it was almost a shame to eat it. All the food was delectable and I almost licked my plates. I also had a gin and tonic that was made with the small batch tonic and it was AMAZING. Highly recommended. Their menus are also electronic and it shows the wine pairings for each item when selected. All food is sourced locally and you can taste the freshness. Will go here again!"

  • "Packed on a Saturday evening at 5:00 PM, this restaurant offers a gourmet menu and beautiful presentation. A tartare lover, I didn't like this rendition. It wasn't served with bread/toast, which I missed--just a small scoop of chopped beef. The beet salad was tasty (a couple pieces of arugula for greens). Sockeye salmon was cooked perfectly and served on a bed of almost raw summer squash that could have stood a few more seconds in the steamer. Apple salad was okay. The first course pasta dish (something with prosciutto, peas, spinach, cheese, slightly smokey--not on the online menu today) was the best dish of the night. Jambalaya was very good, careful though, the spice sneaks up on you!"

  • "My wife and I just relocated from Tokyo back to Michigan...the food choices in Japan were outstanding. Grove is equally as good, if not better! Great service, high quality food, excellent wine pairing...my hope for exceptional food in the US has been restored!"

  • "We attended Grove to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary and as vegetarians, the biggest plus this restaurant had to offer was a very wide selection of courses for those going meatless. The results of our experience were mixed. Some dishes were very good, while others lacked. The beet salad was not up to the standards of what I would expect. Our server was nice, but we were put in a private corner and forgotten twice. From the time we sat down, it was 35 minutes before our order was taken. Worse, it was 45 minutes between our first and second courses. Our water glasses sat empty for those 45 minutes. This is not the kind of service I would expect from a restaurant in this price range (or any restaurant trying to attract people back)."

  • "I've eaten a LOT of dinners out in SW Michigan. This had to rank among the top meals I've had the pleasure to enjoy. Great menu. Lots of choices for everyone. A $35, three course option (that's what we chose). And, a big selection of Michigan craft beef and handmade specialty cocktails. If you could find a restaurant with any of those components that would be great. To find one with all of them is a special treat. Don't miss Grove!"

  • "A 25th anniversary dinner was marked by excellent food and one very unfortunate service glitch. Again: the food was great from the opening trio of "Snacks" we selected to every course and every bite. Vibrantly fresh vegetables studded every dish, pastas were perfect, meats seasoned and cooked perfectly. But as the meal unfolded, my wife's portions were much bigger than mine, something I chalked up to the differences between dishes until my main course came: a lamb t-bone from which I got but two small bites. When I complained, the waiter informed me he thought I had wanted the sampler menu. I had never mentioned that much less ordered it. So I had been skimped on the whole meal. Apologies were profuse but it was an unhappy error."

  • "There is a reason this place is considered the best restaurant in GR! My fiance and I had a truely amazing dining experience. We both had the tasting menu and felt it was an amazing value for the price. Highly recommended!"

  • "Grove is excellent- the food is amazing but not terribly expensive. We sat outside and it was a gorgeous night. It was loud inside though."

  • "We had a lovely evening, great food, great drinks. We both loved the sampling menu. It allowed us to taste a variety of dishes and with such a delicious menu it was hard to choose."

  • "Great place...terrific service (Nathan was our waiter)...intriguing menu (regular and vegetarian)...absolutely delicious food (not afraid to use seasonings and enhance flavor). HOWEVER, the third course (walleye) of my Taste of Grove included a fish piece that was about 2"x1". The two bites were delicious but not nearly enough. I understand that the Taste of Grove will have reduced portions, but come on, two bites of an entree!? There were ample supporting veggies, sauce, etc. but it needed more fish! Perhaps four bites. The first and second courses were appropriately sized and delicious. Go to Grove and enjoy, but get clarity on what 'reduced portions' really means."

  • "The Grove remains a grand rapids gem. The menu is ever-changing and fresh. It is amazing how the chef can offer so many menu alternatives on a daily basis. And every one of the selections are top notch, has never missed on prep, presentation or execution. I recommend this restaurant to everybody I meet in GR and to others throughout the State that visit GR. Fantastic."

  • "Overall - great experience. The noise level was high at first but as restaurant emptied, it was better. Like the 3 courses for $35 - free to pick anything. Food was excellent."

  • "My wife and I went to Grove for our 20th anniversary and I couldn't be happier. Probably the best meal we have ever had together. We had the 3 course meal and each chose 3 different courses. All 6 selections were excellent - unique, fresh, flavor full, and delicious. Our waiter was excellent and they even gave us a complimentary champagne toast and dessert. I would highly recommend Grove!"

  • "We recently had dinner at Grove for our first anniversary dinner while visiting Grand Rapids. Both the hostess & our server made us feel welcome & wished us a happy anniversary. They brought us complimentary glasses of bubbly too. The atmosphere of the place is wonderful -- upscale and modern, but with a totally relaxed vibe. The drink list is smart; I appreciate the all-Michigan beer list. All the food was fresh - I recommend the shrimp & chorizo grits, and the beet salad. The tasting menu is a great deal if you are starving, but I wish the portions were a little smaller because I had no room for dessert afterwards! Overall though, Grove provided us with a truly memorable meal, & I am so glad we chose to celebrate our anniversary there."

  • "This was truly one of the best meals ever from a Grand Rapids restaurant. The flavors in the different dishes were extraordinary. "Shrimp & Grits" awesome! . Above the rest in service. I will be back!"

  • "Our 'go to' restaurant when we come to GR. Great menu. Ask for the vegetarian menu if inclined. Same preparations, no meat. They allow you to mix and match in a 3 course tasting menu."

  • "This was the second time I had been to Grove and just like the first it was outstanding! We got to sit out on the patio which was beautiful and the food was simply amazing. The flavors on each dish compliment each other so well and I highly recommend this restaurant to all of my family and friends."

  • "We have wanted to try the Grove for awhile and the timing was perfect with the 2 celebrations, we arrived about 15 min. before our reservation and were promptly seated and handed a card wish us a happy anniversary and my husband a happy birthday then then a complimentary glass of bubbly showed up. We did the 3 courses each and after the second course we were soo full (plus we ordered the artisan bread plate... delicious!) We both tried our third course and our waitress was concerned when we asked to have them boxed up but we explained we were very full. The meal was well worth the money and I cant wait to go back! The only downside was about half way through our dinner a large group of women came and it became loud. "

  • "This isn't your run-of-the-mill restaurant. We drove about an hour to try out Grove because of a friends' recommendation. It's a restaurant that focuses on local ingredients and as a result, the menu changes frequently. You can buy individual items on an a la carte basis, but I don't recommend it in that it's a poor value. The better way to go is to purchase the "Taste of Grove". For $35, you get to pick three courses from three different groups on the menu. They are fairly flexible. You can pick two things from one group if you wish. Our favorites were shrimp and grits, the mahi and the pork tacos. If you like butterscotch, the butterscotch pudding is a must. Everything was delicious and expertly prepared. "

  • "We eat out often (obviously, as Open Table members) and have travelled to many big cities and dined. This has to be the BEST meal we have had in a long time, if ever. I will recommend Grove to everyone looking for a great meal, amazing service and a great ambience. Go!!"

  • "I have been traveling to Grand Rapids on and off for the past 20 years and cannot remember enjoying a meal as much as I did the other night. The culinary enjoyment that has helped to revitalize this area of town should be traced back to this ground zero destination. Grove it is! Thanks"

  • "Food never fails to exceed expectations. The three course tasting menu is one the best value in town for $35 or so. Almost wish the portions were smaller or I could restrain myself when there's still (delicious) food on the plate, because I would gladly get order nine or even twelve just for two. I'm not sure I've seen a restaurant with such an expansive menu where everything is outstanding. Usually I order beer, wine, or a classic cocktail, but I tried one of their house cocktails for the first time on my last visit (Hendricks, cucumber, lime, ginger syrup, and soda). It was outstanding as well."
