We enjoy fine dining and this place is a diamond in the rough. A true find! Our hostess was extremely knowledgeable of food and wine. She helped us with pairing and the chef's presentation was very appealing to the eye. The meal was wonderful with a host of choices and flavors to appeal to everyone. Very nice atmosphere for couples and groups.

The food was excellent. My wife and I each got the 3-course meal sampler (I think the portions are smaller than if ordered individually, at least the main entree is) and each course was great! Nice ambiance, we'd definitely go here again.

In town for a conference and ate there based on friends recommendation! It was great, I had the warm vegetable salad, and scallop/pork belly trio! Get the 3 courses option... It's way too hard to choose otherwise and the options are all good! Dessert was the BOMB! Salted caramel, butterscotch pudding! Sounds simple but had many layers of flavor! Service was attentive and kind, everyone not just the server. Would go back to GR just to eat there.

Although we went for our anniversary, we plan to go again soon. The food was fantastic and the prices were great! $35 for a 3 course tasting was more than enough food and a great way to try so many things. Can't wait to go back!

You can get better food elsewhere for half of the price. It almost felt like they were trying too hard with the menu items. Very over priced for the food you get as well. I lived in Chicago for 8 years and have had better dishes for a fraction of the price.

The food is well worth the price but $15.50 for 6 oz of Cuvaison is crazy. All the wines are $12 + per glass. New York maybe. Grand Rapids no.

I made reservations for my girlfriend's birthday based on her recommendations. I was skeptical but this is the best place I have dinned. The table and ambiance were great. Everyone greeted girlfriend and wished her a happy birthday. The service was impeccable. It was considerate but not too soon or pushy. The food was Perfect. It was perfectly paired with flavors and textures matching. It was Heaven in my mouth. This will be part of my dining experience again.

The Grove is a real treat. The place is nice enough but the money and the attention goes into the ever changing season / locally procured menu. For example: no tablecloths but a spectacular duck confit and autumn vegetable salad. Nice wines that are typically value priced discoveries - they work (hard) at getting it right. And they do. It would not succeed without the professional and enjoyable staff. Professional. Attentive. Knowledgeable. Fun. Our concern: As Yogi Berra once remarked, "It's too crowded - nobody goes there any more." As long time Grove lovers, we feel the pinch of its success and are happy for the recognition the place is rightly getting. But, we longingly remember when tables were easy to find at our undiscovered wonder.

We moved to Grand Rapids 2 months ago and some good friends of our recommended Grove to us. We have eaten at Green Well several times and had been saving Grove for a special occasion. The service was head and shoulders above any restaurant we've been to in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the hostess congratulated us on our anniversary. Then she talked with us briefly about life, and then passed that info on to the waitress who was able to ask us about moving from Colorado. Our waitress made great recommendations and even brought us a complimentary toast of champagne. The cooks who brought us our food were professional, quick, and polite. The staff was observant and not overwhelming. The food was as amazing as the staff.

Grove has been our go-to restaurant for special events, fantastic food, and really great mixed drinks. Our last visit, 11/14 so many of the courses seem confused by too many notes. What is the feature of the dish? The farm-raised duck, or the slow-cooked egg, or the brussel sprout, or the roasted beet? Who knows? The other disappointment was that so many dishes are sweet. Both my dining partner and I felt like we were having dessert for every course. Our favorite dish, a beef ribeye cap, started with a tangy squash "chutney" which was great, but followed by a sweeter-less interesting red cabbage topped off by the dessert-like "cider oats". The wonderful charred beef flavor was all on its own and needed reinforcements.

  • "notebook menu"
    Nann
    Dined on 10/31/2014
The menu changes every day. The difficult to understand menu required the waitstaff to explain how to work the "notebook" to access menu items being offered. The waitstaff tried to explain the various offerings verbally, but being able to "click" on the menu items to be better informed of the tastes being offered would be helpful. The walleye was totally overpowered by the "hot" tastes of the root vegetables; the walleye could have been uncooked tofu, for all it contributed to the dish. That being said, there were a variety of tastes, a variety of wines and craft beers, several cocktails, and dessert offerings to top off the evening. The waitstaff were wonderful. I loved new cutlery with each dish! The water was amazing!

Our dining experience at the Grove was good enough that we'll be sure to visit again whenever we're in the Grand Rapid area. The extensive menu is easy to take in via their handy iPad app menu. We value and enjoy the local, seasonal farm-to-table concept, and Grove is our best experience with it yet. The list of local food sources is long as is the menu. Food preparation and presentation were unique and delicious. We ordered the 3 course tasting menu, which I would definitely recommend. I don't think I have had better service in a restaurant, including hostess, servers, and waiter. From an unfamiliar bourbon to an unusually seasoned soup, our waiter was quick to bring us a sample when we had questions. He was always available but did not rush as we read through our possible first, second, and third course selections. Each course, with excellent matching wine, was brought promptly but, again, not rushed.

It was rated #1 in Grand Rapids and certainly lives up to its reputation. Outstanding Bistro style cuisine. Great craft brews on draught. It shows up on Yelp as being closed on Monday, but that wasn't the case. Started with the Salmon 2 ways which was a bit of a teaser. I had the Seafood Hot Pot. My colleagues had the Trout special. For dessert, we all tried the Chocolate Fudge which was unbelievably dark and rich with just a drizzle of syrup over the top. I look forward to coming back.
