Diner Reviews
  • "Fantastic for so many years. Can't wait to go back."

  • "This was our first time to both the Woodlands and Grotto, and we will definitely be back to both. We were a group of eight and the staff didn't miss a beat in service. The food was as good as any we've had outside of Italy. Be sure to save room for the desserts!"

  • "We had dinner here with friends. The place has a nice decorated interior. The wait staff was the only disappointment but we believe out waiter may have been new. We chose to not hold it against them and we will be back because the food was great. My plate had pasta that I do not normally eat but the flavor was so good I finished all of it. After dinner we moved to the bar and that extended our fun time. The bartenders are friendly, helpful, and when they heard out ongoing conversation about wine, the bartender Michael even joined in with a demonstration. Great service."

  • "I really liked this place. It was my boyfriends birthday so I treated him to a dinner here, it was our first time at grottos. I spent about $70 total which was with 2 alcoholic drinks, 2 entrees and the tip. The food was really good. I was hoping it would be a dressy place but it really wasnt. We wore jeans and a nice shirt we probably would have looked out of place with dressy clothes honestly. I got reservations online on that open table website and am glad I did, so I would totally recommend it, go online and get reservations. I'll be back."

  • "Service was slow & the restaurant was not very crowded. Music was way too loud! Making it difficult to talk"

  • "The Grotto has become a regular stop for us. We love Italian food and the Grotto does an excellent job and always has something innovative for the specials. My favorite is the roasted chicken pizza with goat cheese but every dish is a delight."

  • "I made a reservation for 8pm and Was not seated until about 8:40. We were in a group of 6 including my two young children and having to wait that long for a place to sit was ridiculous. When we were finally seated the manager came over and offered his apologies and brought us 3, yes 3, different appetizers and comped them all! The service was GREAT and the food was EXCELLENT!!! Even though we had to wait longer and had reservations I will definitely be going back here."

  • "I'm afraid that both times I have used this service to reserve a table at a restaurant my request has been ignored. In both instances I requested a quiet table for a romantic dinner for two and both times we have been seated in the middle if the floor directly in the path of the busy kitchen door route. Both times we selected early dining times and there was clearly ample seating available that would have met that criteria. So either the restaurants do not read the requests you make in the note section or they simply do not care."

  • "My wife was running The Woodlands Marathon so we took her to the Grotto for her pre race carbo load. The food was simply awesome! Our reservation was originally for 8, but we ended up with 10. They were VERY accommodating and took excellent care of us. That made our pre race experience extremely special!"

  • "The food and service was ok, but is very noisy, the music and the chats . You can' t have a nice talk with your friends. i will not come back just because of the noise."

  • "We meet with family for dinner. The atmosphere seemed a bit load for large table cross-conversation. We started with the anti-pasta bar which was very flavorful. The food portions were generous and full of flavor. I ordered the sesame seed encrusted salmon but I'm afraid flavor of the seeds overpowered the fish itself. Their authentic Italian sausage was very flavorful and my brother in law had extra added to his bowl of rigatoni. The desserts were absolutely wonderful. Very good keylime pie and 4 layer chocolate cake."

  • "The food and service were excellent for our Valentines dinner at Grotto. I had the filet which was tender and flavorful and was accompanied by potatoes and asparagus. My husband had Lasagna, which was also well prepared. The dessert cart looked amazing, but we were too full. My only complaint - no booths! Will definitely return."

  • "The Pizza was wonderful and they have many other Italian dishes to satisfy your craving. The wine list was very nice as well."

  • "This was our first time at the Grotto. Our service was very good and our meals were delicious. The best time of our evening was the mouthwatering choice of desserts...very gratifying!"

  • "This restaurant is incredibly loud, making it difficult to hold conversation. The food, in general, is good. The service is always great. For our most most recent visit, I had just found out that I was pregnant so we went to Grotto to tell my parents. My mom was very excited and told our waiter. For whatever reason, my food made me nauseous (pregnancy nose). Our server immediately asked what else he could bring me and offered a variety of soups. He brought out a Sprite and chicken noodle soup. It was perfect. At the end of dinner he surprised us with a dessert that said "Congratulations" in chocolate. It was very nice of him to be so thoughtful - especially after I sent back perfectly good food."

  • "I loved this place ever since first coming here for a holiday work lunch. My family and I have come back a couple of times and we are never disappointed. Service is always fantastic and the food is always delicious. It's a perfect place to dine out with friends and family."

  • "I've eaten the original Grotto downtown in the 80's before it was bought by Landry's. This version in The Woodlands does not compare, and this is not my first time there. There are so many better Italian restaurants in Houston, I resisted coming here but my friend insisted. Out of 4 of us, two enjoyed there food, one was just OK, and my wife really disliked her snapper entrée. But the worst part was the service. Our waiter took wine orders and my wife's request for butter for the bread, disappeared for 15 minutes, then showed up with no wine and no butter and started all over again. The remainder of the meal worked accordingly. I won't be going back."

  • "If you are looking for a Woodlands Italian restaurant that offers healthier options, Grotto is for you. Although the hearty meatballs and ziti will satisfy any man's appetite, the antipasti bar has some fabulously healthy selections. I tried the eggplant in balsamic vinegar, the green beans, roasted cauliflower and still had a meatball for a wonderful dinner. The wine selection is very good. The desserts always look divine although I don't usually select anything...I would have tried the tiramisu!"

  • "We ate at Grotto for New Year's Eve - we arrived early and were assigned a nice table after we complained about being seated next to a group with very young children. The restaurant is very vibrant on New Year's Eve but the server was doing an exceptional job at our table. The wine menu seems to change a lot, but we settled in on a nice cabernet sauv. to go with our hearty Italian choices. The meal was very tasty and this visit will lead to future ones."

  • "The waiter spilled a drink on one of our guests while trying to do a fancy trick with the menu and he replaced her drink and charged her for the spilled drink and the new one and never said he was sorry"

  • "We went to Grotto for a birthday dinner on a Thursday night. Our service was very good. It was a bit loud. The food was good, my shrimp paillard was excellent, but the lasagne had a sweet sauce that we were not too crazy about. Tomato caprese salad was excellent. They were very kind and brought out chocolate cake with a very cool small sparkler in it. It was a big hit with the birthday girl. The cake was delicious."

  • "We went there for our family New Year's Eve dinner, so we could be all together before we split up and celebrated with our friends. It was very nice and we did not feel rushed at all which was surprising for NYE."

  • "Everything was great! We were celebrating our 7th anniv before my husband leaves for Indonesia. We live in the area but this was our first time here. Our server(s) were all amazing! We had at least 2 managers come by our table and every waiter that came by checked on us too. Our main server D'Andre was great! Hubby got the Lingunie Pescatore and said was good but herbs were a bit much. I got a filet with crab, red wine sauce, mushrooms, asparagus and it was perfect! Then for dessert had the brownie cake that was great! Would definitely go back again."

  • "We started out in the bar for happy hour. great service but it did get a bit busy and hard to get our waiter when the place got packed. But he got back to us quickly. We moved to the main dining area which was full but not packed. Great service, wine recommendation and food. it can be a bit noisy but great atmosphere. We recommend, they are very customer service oriented with a great menu."

  • "Good experience. Waitstaff was very good. Service speed good. However , your food is just okay to good. Tasted ok but why those high prices? Food not deserving of price. Our group ate everything from salad to soup to seafood to pasta to dessert. Just not that great tasting."

  • "Seated promptly. Great food and service. They had lots of large groups to serve and everyone seemed to be taken care of seamlessly. The meatballs are as close to my mother's as any I've ever had, and the Veal Kickarillo is always a treat. Be sure to save room for dessert. It does not disappoint."
