A word from Grist Mill Restaurant
Grist Mill Restaurant Wine & Bar’s rustic interior has a brick fireplace and expansive view of the Sonoma creek. Grist Mill & Bar Grill dining rooms shows off blonde maple floors, honey gold walls, cinnamon maple tables, and chairs finished in rich wheat and burgundy fabric. The room is warm, elegant, & comfortable. the highlight is the breathtaking natural beauty of this Sonoma Valley Show on map historic landmark. The large picture windows overlook Sonoma Creek. During warm weather you can enjoy outdoor dining on two trellis covered decks. Even the fanciest dining room cannot compete with the bucolic beauty of this wooded oasis.

We dined on a hot day in July. The restaurant had its doors open to their outside deck area which allowed the heat to enter the restaurant (and also the flys!). It must have been 90 degrees inside the restaurant which made for an uncomfortable dining experience. Our waiter was new, didn't know the menu and forgot to bring us bread. Two of us had the seafood gumbo which consisted of a tiny scoop of white rice in the center of a soupy sauce with unrecognizable bits of seafood and three tiny mussels. We did not enjoy our dining experience.

Sadly the Gristmill could be a great spot with its beautiful location. We came back over 20 years from our first visit, when the place as outstanding. Now, the food is uncreative, the wine list is way over priced and the interior has lost its flair. That said, the staff did all they could to make our visit enjoyable. Our server was delightful. We will try it again in the future hoping that things improve.

Awful food. Old lettuce in both our salads. ...old broccoli in the grilled veggies. Grilled cheese not grilled not even melted or served warm. Wines were warm & not flavorful at all. NOT a go back......

Food was really bad. I used to love the old restaurant. They have agreat location, it is too bad they cannot make good food. We were 7 and not one dish was good, not even hamburgers (which is pretty hard to miss). Very disapointed WILL never go back.

we made a reservation for 16 ppl the day before, when the first of our party arrived at the restaurant the chef came out and told them that they tried to call and confirm the res that day and because they didnt get hold of us he only pulled 3 portions of fish out of the freezer and he already sold 2 so we were had a choice of chicken and beef only! Very proffesional. The food we did order was horrible, the kids burgers were literally burnt black, the ribeye must the cheapest grade they could find, all grissle, the chicken was sawdust. They put 1/8 of a head of cabbage on every plate, wasnt even cooked, not sure if it ws supposed to be a garnish or if was supposed to eat it! Being an exec chef myself I was embarrassed I brought my family!

Found this place last minute while visiting Napa / Sonoma. Great building, set in an old mill with a still rotating water wheel. Food was pretty good, plenty tasty. Wine list was decent. Service let the whole experience down a bit. You expect wine to be severed properly when in wine region. It felt more like being in a bar when we were served. Top hacked off, corked jacked out and pocketed, full glasses poured without tasting, no order etiquette. Don't let this put you off, it may have been just our waiter.

Disappointed that they don't control noisy children, it has lost some of its charm it used to have but still a nice place to see and eat at. Easy free parking.

It was restaurant week so it was very busy. Food was not hot when it was served. However the wait staff were great - very personable and engaging which made dinner fun. A combo played most of the time thus increasing the noise level.

I rarely write reviews, but I thought I'd share our experience at the Grist Mill. The menu I thought was great; comfort food I like so much. But everything I had except the Caesar salad was not good. I had the fried chicken, which was soggy, served with mashed potatoes that were not flavorful, and veggies that were overlooked. My wife had the burger, which she said was just okay, with fries that were not crispy. It was Saturday night at 8:00, and there were only 6 people in the restaurant. I guess that speaks to the general public's opinion of the place.

Great Gumbo, fried buttermilk chicken, fresh sauteed vegetables and roasted beet salad. We will return to check out other menu items. We really appreciate the NO CORKAGE charge here in the Wine Country. The hospitality here is most enjoyable. The staff is eager to keep you happy which certainly helps make a fine dining experience complete!

The surrounding area is currently under construction and Grist Mill was just taken over by different owners. It was a great and convenient stop for lunch. We had the California Burger and the Sloppy Jolene, generally good food but nothing to spectacular to rave about. They have kid friendly options as well as plenty of room for larger groups if you plan in advance.

Food was very good- everyone's main meal and starter course was prepared wonderfully. The starter course menu was really well put together hard to decide what to order. However the service was not very good. The waitress was very nice and polite but she seemed overwhelmed with drink service, slow approached to the table abd when she did arrive immediately asked if we were ready to order our meals. Did not even ask if we wanted a beverage (wine/beer.)We were probably seated for 20 minutes before our drinks arrived. Would have been nice to have been offered the optional of cajun spices(tabasco etc with our meals) We will try again and hope for a better attempt from the wait staff!

Great new menu! We loved the variety of dishes that are available and the sides were great. The sloppy Jolinda with coleslaw was delicious and the the baked sweet potato with honey butter a treat. We look forward to returning soon to try some of the other menu items. The approach to the restaurant is pretty, you need to walk over a bridge with creek underneath. Grist Mill's interior is rustic and you view the turning water wheel. The place is worth a visit!

The food was fabulous. The service was cheerful and attentive. However, the food took forever to get to us and there was nothing to snack on. No bread delivered to the table, the portions weren't large enough to feel full when you leave, but, they were very very tasty. Just plan to sit there a while waiting. with no nibbles since the appetizers were painfully slow as well. This was a Creole restaurant but there was not much Creole on the menu.

Southern cooking in NorCal - yes there is. Grist Mill offers a delightful menu of Southern cuisine...mostly comfort food. Wonderful setting in the former Grist Mill in Glen Ellen. My wife had the buttermilk fries chicken and I had the hot sausages. We shared grits and coleslaw side dishes. Topped it off with some fin local draft beer - a nice dinner. We can't wait to return.
