A word from Grinder
Grinder restaurant is located on Notre-Dame street, in the heart of Griffintown. This neighborhood in the southwest of Montreal is dynamic and promising; residential and commercial projects are already underway.

The original decor screams Zébulon Perron (Furco, Buvette à Simone, Philemon). He created a comfortable and warm restaurant, kitchen and raw bar. Grinder characterizes itself by vintage and modern elements such as glass and metal.

On the menu, raw & cooked items: tartares, tatakis, ceviches, carpaccios, etc. Also on the menu, steaks and grilled or braised meats, all to be shared. Grinder also offers a variety of fish and seafood, served cooked or raw as well. More than a simple steakhouse, all food lovers will find something to their liking among our selection of fresh products.

100% of their wine list consists of privately imported wines, always changing with the seasons, and of course focusing on wines produced while respecting nature.

  • "We arrived promptly at our reserved time. After 45 minutes, our food finally arrived. The wine we selected from the menu was not available and a bad substitute was given. The pudding chomard was very good, though. Overall, $150 for lunch for 2 with poor service is a joke. I won't be back. "

  • "My lunch started with a greeting by a wonderful waitress. She was alert, smart and engaged on a comfortable level. She was patient as my friend and I took our time ordering. The soup was so fresh and delicious, then our lunch salads were filling and tasty. The noise level was lively, but not too loud. We were able to talk and talk and had to force ourselves to leave and go back to work. I was actually quite surprised how inexpensive our lunch was, mind you we didn't have wine, but still, It's a nice place to go for an important meeting or a relaxed friendly casual lunch. Well done. I will definitely be back."

  • "go to restaurant at least twice a week with customers. have several customers in this area. I went there once before in the summer and it was good. This time I was really embarrassed that I took my customer there. We choose the soup of the day which was butter nut squash. Didn't tell us there was curry in it he hates curry and I have to say so do I. They put a very spicy oil on top of the soup. I like spicy, but my customers face was let's just say priceless! Then he had the bavette which he liked. I had the tartar of salmon which was very good except it was my main, and I had 4 croutons that's it. So french fries or salad to go with it! Never saw that in any restaurant I go to and have tartar when it's a main."

  • "The food that i order was a salad to start that was wet and no taste. The Braised Lamb Shank was as tender as could be and the sauce with the braised lamb was barely warm and the mashed patates in the skillet were also just warm. Food should served hot when specially served in iron skillets which would make the diner think do not touch the skillets. I was also surprise how noisey the restaurant is which was not a favourable in order to enjoy conversation with the my lunch partner. My friend ordered the french onion soup which was also tasteless and not hot enough, his steak was over cook but still okay to eat. Over all not a great first experience. May try having a evening dinner and give the restaurant another chance. Ralph Pawsey"

  • "ambiance was good and added a little different flavor to a luncheon date. Better by far during the evening. Food was disappointing ,the fish was breaded and fried and dry, the moroccan soup was cold and not to flavourful except for the excess curry, overpriced for what it was unless you stuck to the bistro best. Burgers are the items to eat in this place."

  • "A friend was dropping in for a visit and I wanted to take her somewhere with a nice atmosphere and delicious food. Ended up reserving Grinder for lunch. Menu seems to be the same as in the evening, heavy on the meat offerings, which was fine by us. We ordered the burgers which were filling, moist, and the salmon tartar, which needed a bit more punch to it. The mash was sinfully tasty. Our waiter was really pleasant and well trained. He more than made up for the obnoxious hostess. After requesting menus 20 minutes after we had been seated, she "informed us" that the wine list is alway presented prior to the menu."

  • "Went for lunch and tried the beef carpaccio, fried calamari, salmon fillet and beef short ribs. Everything cooked to perfection, good presentation, delicious. A bit pricey for lunch. There should be a lunch menu and a table d'hote. Service is fast and attentive. Place was pretty full with "see and been seen" atmosphere. Worth a try."

  • "I chose grinder to please my foodie family for something new and exciting. My entire family was blown away with the service and the quality of the food! The waiter was polite and informative and patient with our table! The tartare ( salmon, beef and tuna ) where all insanely good and quick to be served. The presentation was amazing for each serving. Our waiter was attentive and we didn't need to lift a hand before he filled our wine glasses. Coming from a foodie family of chefs, distributors and waiters we were all highly impressed and would recommend it to anyone! Also the prices are EXTREMELY reasonable!"

  • "I had the tuna carpaccio and then the veal chop with cheese. The veal was lovely but the one that both myself and my friend received were very fatty. With the rich cheese, the veal would have benefitted from a fresh green salad on the side. The terrace was lovely and I really liked the crowd."

  • "Sitting at the bar great. Ask for the upper bar (not near the door) as the 2 seats and 2 stools at the front get crowded over by guests as they enter and order drinks as their tables are being prepared. Had a great time and will return shortly."

  • "From the signage outside to the decor inside, Grinder is just begging for you to bite into one of their flavourful choices of raw or cooked meats. I had a Lynchburg Lemonade (Jack Daniel's) which was just the right amount of bitter and sweet. To start; Popcorn shrimp w/ Siracha mayo. A big mistake some restaurants make is their oil, keeping it too long, letting many flavours "soak" in it. The popcorn shrimp were crunchy and golden which made me want to keep eating. For my main, I went with the New York Strip; Medium-Rare. The strip was served with a 10cm strip of Bone w/ Marrow & sweet mashed potatoes. Phenomenal. The steak was done exactly right. Explaining would only ruin your experience. Visit Grinder Today"

  • "Nous avons trouvé l'endroit superbe, sans être tape-à-l'oeil. La carte a deux côtés, le cru et le cuit. Les carpaccio et tartares sont excellents, en particulier le canard. Côté cuit, nous avons aimé les calmars, mais beaucoup moins les crevettes popcorn. Les desserts se laissaient manger, en particulier la tarte de pacanes que ma blonde a adoré. Le service est jeune, parfois maladroit mais sympathique..."

  • "Grander is really a great place but success has gotten to their head. The waiters are told to turn the tables as fast as possible. We told our waiter not to rush we are here to dine. He understood but we were approached by at least 4 others staff members who said " did you order yet, would you like anything else, how about dessert, etc...". the for and ambiance are good but poor service turns off customers."

  • "I really enjoyed Grinder. It has a fantastic ambience and for a very trendy restaurant, I was surprised that the food was so good. I had the fois gras sliders which were delioicious and the braised beef rib in Jack Daniels with the sweet potatoes was outstanding. It is my new favourite restaurant in Griffintown."
