The Grillroom has good food, nice wine and is conveniently located across from the Bank of America Theatre. All of this makes it so frustrating that they do not handle theatre tickets well at all. We let our server know we had tickets and she teased us about it and said no problem, we had plenty of time. And then everything was slow and we found ourselves rushing to get out on time. First time no big deal, but it happens every time we've been there. It's a decent place, but I don't recommend it before a show.

I was there to have lunch in the celebration of my anniversary, the host was not warm enough when we arrived, table was set and reservation respected well. Food, we ask for the Kansas steak and the sirloin steak, we asked for medium well done and we didn't get it in that way, I have to ask to cook more my wife's plate..The Chimichurri sauce was great! When waitress bring the dessert list, she indicated that one in particular was no available, but when I ask for a different one she came back from the kitchen saying that was not available either. The dessert was on the restaurant, I did appreciate due the ocassion, I think the host should be more warm on the welcome. Overall no impressed comparing with Capital Grill in Milwaukee...

Waitress knew our dinner was before attending theater. Immediate service, drinks, salad course & then entrees. Excellent service then became non-existent. We waited 20 minutes after dinner plates were cleared to flag down the manager because our waitress was nowhere in sight. He provided excellent apologies and care as he personally took care of getting us another wine and dessert. He told us it was on the house with his apologies for the service problems. The waitress came back eventually with check, no apologies for her poor attendance to our table and then charged us for the dessert her boss provided free of charge. There was no time before theater at this point to do anything but pay the "wrong" bill and leave. Food trumped service.

Superb food, well plated. Server could not have been more pleasant and attentive. Across from B of A Theater. Give yourself time to enjoy a well prepared dinner. We parked in the same building, ate, and crossed the street to the theater. Convenient downtown spot. Downtown prices. I had the salmon. Perfectly done. My spouse had the filet. She commented that it was the best she has had. We shared and order of mashed potatoes to accompany our entree. Had the onion soup as an appetizer and one of the draft beers from a nice selection.

We went here for dinner after a performance at Bank of America theater. It is right across the street. We were pleased with the upscale yet casual atmosphere. It was excellent for ladies that needed to eat a nice dinner and get to a train on time. The selection of wines and cocktails gave us plenty of options. None of us were steak hungry but there were lots of steaks on the menu. The whitefish and the herb chicken were enjoyed very much and the consumers said they would order again.

The only thing going for this restaurant was location--across the street from the Bank of America theater and they had availability on Saturday night (and now we know why). Macroni and cheese was the blandest we have ever had. Flat iron steak was good, but needed to be sent back twice to get it cooked to medium well (we weren't charged for it). Whitefish was good, and sweet potato fries were excellent, as was the soups. Service was not good, especially considering they were not busy at all. No inquiries about another drink, how was our food (maybe they knew). Fortunately we had extra time, as it was also quite slow.

We had a pre-show dinner here. We arrived at an early time, so there was still quite an after work buzz of noise in the bar. We were not sure why they seated us so close to the bar, given that there were open tables further back in the restaurant. Our waiter, Kendall, was outstanding. The beet salad was excellent. My husband's steak was so-so. My Quinoa with Market Vegetables was very runny. The taste was ok, but I've never had a quinoa dish that had such an excess of liquid. I don't know if that's how it was supposed to be or if something went wrong. The best part of the meal was that we didn't have to walk far to get to the show.

Last minute trip to Chicago and booked table for two during the day of the reservation. No issue getting the time we wanted. Very nice place, but was very empty when we arrived for out 7:30pm reservation. Bar was busy with after work folks watching sports on TV, but only 3-4 couples in the restaurant. I tried to get reservations at a couple other places but there was only before 6:00pm and after 9:30pm available. Just curious why the Grillroom was so available. In nutshell, steaks were great, soup and salads were great, drinks were great. Bus service was great and attentive. Waitress a bit curt and lacking in attentiveness, but okay.

Total rip off.Sandwitch was not that good.A Glass of wine (house pour)was $12.00 also not worth it.Cant charge what you do to make up for high rent that you must pay. Skip this one....

Apparently many of the downtown restaurants are rather empty on weekend nights. That was the case with this one. Our group of 5 arrived late after NU game, about 8:45, and found only one other table of diners. It was very relaxing, the New York Strip special was delectable, two of us had the Mac 'n Cheese, which was creamy and flavorful. We all had salads, and shared a couple of appetizers. Food is very good as is the service. It was walking distance to our Loop hotel, and made the perfect ending to our long day. I understand it is crowded at lunch, so perhaps we lucked out. When in Chicago have a steak, and the Grill Room is a great place to order it.

Typically, our group goes to the Grillroom during lunch time. This time we went for dinner; much more quiet and not crowded. The reason why I'm giving this experience 3 stars is because of the desserts and the decreasing quality of service throughout our meal. At first our waitress was very attentive, then she was nowhere to be found for a long time. Our entrees were very good but the dessert was horrible. The creme brulee was undercooked and the molten chocolate cake had no molten. The waitress took them back and came back with the option of sorbets or gelato on the house. Which is fine, but I think we should've been comped ANY dessert. Also, no apology from the waitress or the chef.

Had lunch with a group of six people on 7/23/14. Ordered the fish & chips and wasn't impressed. The batter/breading was so thick that I was searching for the fish inside. Also, the wait staff guy that came to clean the table was literally taking the plates away while one of the people in our group was still chewing her food. She couldn't answer since she was chewing and by the time she finished and was ready to answer, the plate was gone with what was left of her meal. He was also clanking the plates loudly as he piled up six people's plates on his arm. It was just very odd and made everyone feel rushed. Nobody in the group was overwhelmed. It was a completely average at best meal.

My wife and I stopped in for an early dinner at about 5PM after a show at the Goodman, which is only about three blocks away. The restaurant was sparsely populated at the time. Service way prompt and friendly. The food was well prepared and presented. We enjoyed a glass each of one of our favorite wines. A future visit is highly likely during one of our regular trips to Chicago. Their frequent diners' club covers additional restaurants in their group.

I took three business colleagues there for dinner on a Thursday evening. They had steaks; I had fish. We all thought the food was excellent. It turned out to be a very good choice for food and conversation. --NOTE TO OPENTABLE: (1) your web form forces me to choose a specific descriptor but the most important one for me is not on the list: good choice for business dinner. (2) for noise level, is one block supposed to mean "bad" or "quiet"? (Noise was not a problem for us. We had no problem hearing each other talk.)

We were in town for the weekend and wanted a local place for a good steak. Wish we had gone somewhere else. Food was expensive for the flavor. I don't have an issue spending good money when the food is over the top and memorable (in a good way) this was not. Filets were thin, sauce was salty, spinach and potatoes where okay but not great. Overal disappointed with the food. Staff was nice, efficient.

Traffic was horrible getting into the city rushing to see a 7:30 show. The Grill Room conveniently located directly across the street helped melt away gridlock stress, and still get us in before curtain call. Our waiter was fantastic, attentive and empathetic with our time crunch. We split appetizers, giant plump and juicy parwns in the shrimp scampi, melted goat cheese, and seared ahi with a bechamel sauce that was fantastic. Nice selection of wines by the glass. Atmosphere is sophisticated and uncomplicated, nice ambience. We popped back over after the show for another glass of wine, and dessert, no luck on the sweets because the kitchen had closed, but everything else exceeded our expectations.

Very disappointed in the wine list. Server was more like someone working at a deli - too casual. Steak, asparagus and potatoes were very good. Hostess was very welcoming. Had to ask for water refills. Perhaps the best part was that they called me and had my CC ready for me when I returned after the show after having left it on the table. I was late and they held my 5 pm reservation. The hostess was polite. I was seated in a booth at the back of the restaurant. The waitress told me the specials. I chose gumbo instead of a side. The busboy removed unfinished roll, butter, and butter knife prior to my meal. I had to request a steak knife. I was pleased not to feel rushed. The manager made visit to my table, although I could not speak with food in my mouth. I ordered lemon sorbet for desert. It was out of this world. Prior to leaving the restaurant I used the restroom. It was unpleasant. One stall was out of order, leaving 2 stalls. There were 4 ladies when I went in and two more behind me. The toilet paper low. Our pre-theater dinner was 4 woman, with the star being my 83 year old Mother. The tomato soup was fragrant and wonderfully tasty with a delicate goat-cheese crouton floating on its surface. Speaking of goat cheese, the goat cheese topping the wonderful mixed beet and arugala appetizer was terrific. My niece enjoyed her martini - actually she had two. The roasted chicken entree with capers was beautifully tender and moist, and the asparagus sides we ordered (one grilled and one steamed) were perfectly done. The tiramisu and the baked apple desserts are both delicious. Though not on the menu, my bowl of naked, chilled fresh strawberries were fantastic. Top this off with a charming and attentive server (yes Rico) and the meal was an event.

I ordered the steak special and was very disappointed in the steak. Almost 1/2 was inedible. There was too much fat and a lot of gristle. The flavor was excellent and the sides that were included were delicious. But, the steak was a big disappointment. When I told the waiter, he very kindly offered me a free dessert. He later told me that my dinner would be discounted. The Manager also came by to apologize. I was very appreciative of the way it was handled and would definitely go there again.
