Diner Reviews
  • "directly across from Bank of America Theater with easily accessible parking in the building. Unfortunately parking is expensive and there is no theater parking deal [at least that I am aware of}"

  • "Our pre-theater dinner was 4 woman, with the star being my 83 year old Mother. The tomato soup was fragrant and wonderfully tasty with a delicate goat-cheese crouton floating on its surface. Speaking of goat cheese, the goat cheese topping the wonderful mixed beet and arugala appetizer was terrific. My niece enjoyed her martini - actually she had two. The roasted chicken entree with capers was beautifully tender and moist, and the asparagus sides we ordered (one grilled and one steamed) were perfectly done. The tiramisu and the baked apple desserts are both delicious. Though not on the menu, my bowl of naked, chilled fresh strawberries were fantastic. Top this off with a charming and attentive server (yes Rico) and the meal was an event."

  • "Take your time while dining and you will enjoy the Grillroom. We sat outside so it was noisy with the rush of people and traffic. The food was good and served well."

  • "We went to the grill room on a Friday night to celebrate my 25th anniversary with my company. We ordered two appetizers, calamari (delicious) and honey baked goat cheese. Our entrees were the large filet with a lobster tail addition, a couple sides (the lobster truffle mac & cheese was outstanding) and two bottles of wine. The steak was delicious, very tender and cooked perfectly. The lobster tail was an excellent addition, very flavorful. We had four people, shared everything and still had too much food. The price tag was hefty, but we were able to splurge as this was a company paid dinner. However, we have been here many times over the winter holidays as a kind of tradition when we foot the bill ourselves and are happy to do so."

  • "We had tickets to a show that Bank of America Theatre and we can always count on a fast and delicious meal."

  • "I ordered the steak special and was very disappointed in the steak. Almost 1/2 was inedible. There was too much fat and a lot of gristle. The flavor was excellent and the sides that were included were delicious. But, the steak was a big disappointment. When I told the waiter, he very kindly offered me a free dessert. He later told me that my dinner would be discounted. The Manager also came by to apologize. I was very appreciative of the way it was handled and would definitely go there again."

  • "At least that I could detect. Just like eating a bun with fried cracks crumbs. Very disappointing. Won't be bothering with this place again."

  • "Great steak restaurant. It has a great location and good service. Can't wait to go back."

  • "A bit pricey but fresh and a great sauce that enhances the flavor of the Tuna!"

  • "I had my favorite, Lobster Mac 'n Cheese and paired it with the wedge salad, which was presented beautifully and both tasted delicious! I am never disappointed in the food or excellent service of the wait staff at Grillroom."

  • "The food was ok but service, though friendly, was lacking. Never offered a second glass of wine, never offered coffee, only offered dessert when we asked for the check. Food arrived slowly. The restaurant was far from full so the poor service was unexpected."

  • "My colleague and I sat outside and enjoyed the lunch from the food, to the service to the scenery....well done!!!!!"

  • "I have not been to this restaurant previously and was hopeful that it would be a find in an area with few options. Teh best thing I can say about this place is it's proximity to the Bank of America Theater across the street. This is about as mediocre a place as one can find. Service is slow, inept and poorly trained. The food was not far above a chain and the atmosphere, though not offensive, had a very plastic quality to it. Wine list was very overpriced. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you are in a hurry to get a burger before the theater."

  • "Second time we've eaten here before a show. Second time we've had very positive experience. Great staff, service and food."

  • "A bit on the pricey (conservatively $100+ for 2 ppl) but great food, awesome food, and fantastic wine selection. Literally across the street from the Bank of America Theatre."

  • "It was the worst dining experience before seeing a play. Never again."

  • "It was my first time here, and I will definitely be back. I couldn't believe that they have 5 types of Mac n Cheese, I knew I had to order that! Food was great, service was great, ambiance is amazing. I'll be back for sure."

  • "Conveniently located across from Bank of America theater. Steaks and fish entrees were very good. The Quinoa and vegetable dimmer was a bit sweet with pineapple. I was expecting the dish to be more savory. Serice was mindful of the theater time. Thanks"

  • "We were stuck in traffic and got to the restaurant late. We had a showtime to meet, and let the waitress know. She said she could get the food out to us in time, and she did it. She made it work out for us."

  • "The place wasn't bad, but when a restaurant charges more than other places, I'll hold it to higher standards. The filet mignonette wasn't bad at all but it definitely wasn't $36 good either."

  • "I've been having lunch here once a month for several years and this time was very disappointing. The service overall was very good, but the food was not. The chicken on the salad was overcooked and very dry, the oysters tasted off, the sweet potato fires were cold, and the chicken on the parmesan sandwich tasted like it just went from the freezer to the microwave. We both said it was as if they changed chefs when they changed the menu. Very disappointing"

  • "We wanted to try something different so we came here. It's hard to find a veal chop and this place had it on their menu. It wasn't a good cut of meat, lots of fat. For 42.00 I go meat on my plate and no sides. REally? You cant throw in a baked potatoe? I paid 8.00 for green beans. These kind of things make me not come back. "

  • "Very disappointed. While the server was friendly, the steak I order was not impressive, had to ask for bread for the table. Everything for a steak is ala cart. While the other side of the menu had full dinners. "

  • "I came to the Grillroom for the first time by myself in January for my 60th birthday. This past weekend, I returned with a party of 18, most of whom were from out of town to celebrate going to Motown the Musical. The menu had changed and the food was not as good. After my experience in January, I constantly bragged about the flavor, portion size, and the presentation. That was not the case this weekend. The whitefish portion cut was small and almost on the dry side. Those in my party who had the salmon said it was dry. Half of the 18 had gone to Wildfire Restaurant on Friday and said the food was extremely much better. We did appreciate that they would split the check no more than 4 ways!! That worked out perfectly!!"

  • "Very nice location and ambiance. Good selection of meals, especially for the meat-lovers. LONG wine list, but able to order by the glass if desired. We went as a group and were very happy at the end."

  • "Went in prior to show. Was mostly empty on Sat evening. Food was nothing special but was good. Somewhat overpriced for what you get. "

  • "Considerable time elapsed before server came to greet us and take order. Never came back to see hpw meal was and had to wait for check. Despite perfect menu, ambience and location for business lunches, I will be looking elsewhere going forward. "

  • "A wine bar who is out of wine? Limited list of your basic $40 bottles for $80 all of which they were out of! Limited patrons yet service was clearly by someone new, slow and unresponsive. This is NOT a chop house or a grill room. Caesar salad looked like it was from a cheap Italian joint served on clunky old tableware. Steaks were a miss also as if they don't know how to deliver a good char or crust. Tuna though requested rare was cooked through and dry! With so many wonderful Chicago restaurants avoid this banal and unrefined poor performer. I don't know how they survive with such poor quality and high prices. Never posted a review before but it bothered me enough that I chose this from other reviews and was embarrassed to bring MD's there"

  • "I have been to this restaurant several times now. Has to be one of the best in the world (and I have travelled a lot)! The food and service are superb in every respect. The Woodford Reserve Manhattan was the best I've ever tasted. Must do if your in Chicago!"

  • "When sitting outside, it can be annoying to have smokers gathering just feet away and blowing smoke everywhere. Also, a bus stop is located just steps away making the area very busy during rush hour. Maybe some small trees and shrubs around the area would help set it apart more from the people waiting nearby."

  • "The Grillroom is directly across the street from the Bank of America Theatre which makes it amazingly convenient! Come down early, get great parking, avoid traffic, enjoy outstanding steaks, fish, salads, wine, etc! AND, never be late for the performance!!! Another plus....most of the servers are actors!!!"

  • "The food was absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed it and they did have some very nice wine choices. However I can not recommend this place due to the service. Our waiter was polite and treated us good however it was apparent there were not enough servers and ours was stretched too thin. We waited maybe 20 minutes before we had even seen our waiter. Then it was another 20 minutes in between each stop and we could see very well it was not that he was a poor waiter but that he had far too many tables to wait on and was doing the best he could."
