Diner Reviews
  • "I've always really liked Grillfish, it's near my work. This was my first time having brunch there. The oyster, which are what we came for, were delicious as were the mimosas. I did wish they had a little more variety to their brunch items but it was all really tasty and I enjoyed my food very much and was very glad to be able to order brunch so late in the day (that's one of the reasons we decided on Grillfish)."

  • "Our second visit to Grillfish DC and we were just as pleased as the first visit! Excellent fish, very friendly and attentive service and we loved the atmosphere. I think this restaurant will become one of regulars when visiting our daughter at GW!"

  • "I have been to Grillfish Miami and I must say that I prefer that location. Grillfish DC had very slow service despite being nearly empty for the late lunch hour. I found myself bored waiting for my food. The food itself was great."

  • "Service could have been better but the food was exceptional."

  • "Service was outstanding. Food was excellent. We had a group of 17 people from all over the US. Everyone at Grillfish treated us as though we were regular customers. I recommend Grillfish as great place to eat with a great atmosphere and very friendly wait staff."

  • "Went to dinner while in town for a conference. It was a random pick but we LOVED it. I will definitely go back."

  • "My husband and I were in town for business and looking for a local seafood restaurant. We were not disappointed. While the seating is not ideal for intimate dining, the atmosphere was pleasant. Food outstanding with a great selection of fresh seafood and pasta dishes."

  • "Went with a party of 5 for a Sunday evening dinner in August, the night before DC Restaurant Week began. We were pleasantly surprised when told that Grillfish was celebrating Restaurant Week all month, rather than just one week. Everything on the menu was included, although we were told that some items would have up-charges. The food was attractively presented and delicious. Wine list was well-chosen and prices were reasonable. We will dine there again."

  • "Unfortunately, I was still associating this restuarant with the Grillfish in Miami, FL. This is no longer the case and while it was ok - it certainly was not the Grillfish of old. I can't say it was misleading...I should have probably done more homework to find out that this restaurant was going to look or taste nothing like the Grillfish it used to be. The price points were a bit on the high end - but they didn't match the quality of the food."

  • "Came in for lunch and will come back for dinner. Solid mixed grill kebob and quant but strong cocktails. I tried their crab cake and it is out of this world, but their dessert is what convinced me to come back with my fiancee. Generous cheesecake slice and I'm curious about their other items."

  • "We were seated promptly on arrival at a comfortable table. Our server was great--attentive, knowledgeable and helpful about suggesting specials and promotions (including an attractively-priced tasting menu they were piloting). Fish chowder was served hot and well-stocked. Shrimp scampi arrived cooked perfectly in a creamy, garlicky sauce. They also had an extensive drinks menu--including an addictive and hard-to-find ginger beer. Would recommend highly, and will surely return."

  • "Nothing exceptional about the fis but certainly prepared as requested and offered with tasty sauces. Attentive service and nice outside environment on a busy intersection. Great for people watching. Would return and try something different inside."

  • "The salads were amazing! And we also tried the buffalo Mac n' Cheese. Very tasty!!!!"

  • "Great food, but the table staff can really use a lesson in 'reading the table.' Multiple times in the dinner you will be interrupted - no matter how engrossed in conversation you may be - to answer the banal "and how is everything/the soup/entree/wine/etcetera." An unprofessional, repetitive, break-in onto a great evening. That said, good food in all courses."

  • "Our server Bubba rocked! The restaurant had a great Fra Divola and better cocktails."

  • "Service is friendly and quick. Lunch menu has nice variety and is reasonably priced. The fish tacos were good. I find the main/dinner menu overpriced. While the food is good, there isn't anything particularly special about it. Too much to pay for "assembly line" dinner."

  • "They do a great job with grilled fish. Their daily specials are great."

  • "I had their raw oysters during happy hour. This was my first time eating at this restaurant, and I did not eat seafood or poultry the entire week until that day. 5 hours later, I was clutching my stomach in the bathroom due to food illness. Although service was good and the cooked food was great, I would not recommend the raw oysters."

  • "The food was delicious, but the bar was missing something. The bartenders were very competent, but lacked energy and attentiveness."

  • "Grillfish DC was a delightful and excellent dinner experience. I recently tried Grillfish for the first time and was impressed with the excellently cooked seafood and great service. Bubba was an incredible waiter, he gave excellent service. The Buffalo Shrimp app was absolutely incredible. Additionally, the mixed grill fish platter was a great meal to share. I will definitely eat here again and again."

  • "Very disappointing. They don't so much cook seafood as drown it in pedestrian sauces. Junky, goopy stuff that overwhelms the food. Sure, I could try again, but why bother?"

  • "The food was not great and the restaurant was empty. Service was good - but drinks and flavor -were completely off. Was so looking forward to this meal, but terribly disappointed."

  • "The oysters were simply incredible, and all the fish selections that were ordered (Artic Char, Rockfish and Salmon) were extremely good. Many great desert selections as well. Very enjoyable dining experience."

  • "Small, lively, with really fresh seafood interestingly prepared. Flavors ate great. Service good. $25 per main dish, whuch we found reasonable given the quality. Have paid more and gotten less in other places. A DC gem."

  • "Chose this restaurant based on the internet rating..great choice. The staff was friendly and helpful with the wine and food selections. Fish was fresh and perfectly prepared. Planning to return the next time we dine in DC."

  • "Monkfish, while a bit small in portion, and the Buffalo shrimp with pasta were good. The fish and chips were hot but not at all crispy. I believe that dish was held under a heat lamp for too long."

  • "Thought this place had a nice food offering for lunch. The vegetables are from a local farm in southern MD run by the owners of the restaurant, so it made the selections taste even fresher! My friends had fish and thought the food was perfectly prepared and seasoned. The food amounts were on the small side, we all left thinking we would be hungry an hour or so later. So make sure you ask for the bread to go along with your entrée or salad. The sauce which came with the various dishes and the salad dressing were fantastic, flavorful with the right amount added to the dish or salad and tasted very fresh."

  • "My dad and I came before for his bday and he requested again we go for father's day. He wouldn't have dinner anywhere else. Incredible food. The service was better then 5 star. Everyone couldn't be nicer. Did I mention the food? Geeze. Order the Ginger calamari and the mixed grill with sweet onion sauce. OMG."

  • "This is one of my favorite places to eat. And this visit was the only visit that was a bit disappointing to be honest. The waiter tried his best but had trouble or did not try hard enough with accimidating with the food subsitutions like if someone was lactose or on a clean eating diet. And the lobster omelet wasn't so great. I'm sorry this is my first okay experience here at grillfish. I've been here many times and they all have been thrilling experiences and food was amazing!!! But this past Sunday it was so unlike grillfish. Just being honest."

  • "Started with the Watermelon gazpacho(?) soul, a special which was very tasty. As I usually do, I got one of the Buffalo Shrimp dishes, this time the one with linguine. It was nicely spiced as usual. The table at which I was seated was in the path of wind from the service door to the patio, so the white paper tablecloth kept billowing up. Quite amusing. Hadn't been to Grillfish for a while and am glad to see it has remained very good."

  • "Have been coming here for 10 years or more. Good location, excellent seafood selection, always attentive service, reasonable prices. Have introduced it to many out-of-town guests over the years, and have always been more than satisfied with the results. It's our reliable, "go-to" place on such occasions. "

  • "My sister was visiting in town and she wanted to dine in Dupont circle. I searched seafood restaurant in Dupont circle on Open table. Grill fish sounded good. I'm glad I added a new seafood restaurant on my favorite list."

  • "No problems this time. I had the special crab tower, which was very good and included plenty of crab. My wife had the excellent mahi mahi and my son the mixed grills, all reportedly very good and washed down with a nice bottle of Bodini Malbec. Maya was an excellent server. All for $170. Pretty good"

  • "This was a return visit. We had the same excellent server as last time. Ordered the lobster special, which was very good, with linguine and garlic sauce. My wife ordered the mahi mahi topped with pistaccio, with mashed potato mixed with truffles, and asparagus. This was tired and disappointing. However, fair enough, when we complained our server sent the manager over who was very apologetic took it off our bill and also added a nice piece of lime pie. These things do happen but Grillfish handled this situation very well. So, will we return? Absolutely."

  • "Grillfish is a great casual restaurant near DuPont Cirl. The fish is alway prepared well, with a light touch of seasoning and never over cooked. They also offer an interesting line up of wine and cocktails for happy hour, note the deceptively potent Fish House Punch. Fish House Grill is one of my "go to" restaurants, when I am in DC, enjoy. "

  • "The food was delicious, the service was great..the only downside was the crying 2 year old at the table next to us! We have a two year old grandchild so we understand the problem, however this dad waited much too long before he took the kid outside. I don't know what the server could have done to help but maybe there should be a policy in place to handle situations like this!"
