I went here with family visiting from out of town. I had never been to this restaurant, but it was one of the only ones in the D.C. area that would accommodate the large group, and one that looked to offer a range of food (as in simple preparations and more adventurous preparations). Everyone enjoyed their meal, and the wait staff was very polite and attentive. The food wasn't cold (as in you could tell it wasn't sitting waiting around for the other plates to be made) and it was neat to see the food being made-from where we were sitting we could see the cooks. The only downside is that I couldn't really hear the conversations of those furthest away from me at the table....but I guess this is somewhat expected with a large group.

A group of 14 family & friends including children celebrated my mom's 75th birthday. Grillfish was one of few restaurants that could accommodate us at 2:30 pm. The service and food was excellent. Bubba and associates were very attentive and made us feel right at home. This was our first visit; we'll be back.

Food - we enjoyed ever last bit of it- oysters, calamari, redfish, asparagus salad, and apple crisp! Great meal, go and try this place and support sustainable fisheries! Constructive criticism- The waiter was super nice and personable - he gave us a LONG introduction to the restaurant and was very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, he gave a long introduction to all of his tables, meaning the rest of us didn't see much of him. Recommendation - find a way to convey the message/theme of the restaurant in shorter sound bytes. Annoyance- when we received our bill, there was a not on it that said "We recommend you tip 20%", this was circled with a line drawn to the total price. I found this extremely inappropriate and classless. Should be removed.

I could eat the blackened salmon every single meal for days, except that I'd miss the buffalo shrimp. And the shrimp flatbread. And the Louie Salad. And the salmon BLT. I've only been to Grillfish for lunch, but I adore the food, love that I can have conversation at a normal volume, and did I mention the blackened salmon?

Of course I mean "well done" as in "well executed" rather than overcooked fish - far from it, mine was perfect. A popular format now: informal, buzzy seafood restaurant in a large space, visible kitchen. Mixture of specials and, indeed, grilled fish of various kinds. Limited but well chosen wine list, plenty by the glass and - particular hoorah from me - a decent choice of half bottles. Catch-of-the-day redfish fully justified its place on the menu. Buffalo shrimp appetizer was excellent & tangy. Plus a half bottle of J Lohr Chardonnay, a longtime reliable, economical favourite of mine - see what I mean about well chosen? Waitron Maya treated me well, despite "competing" large noisy parties. Modest cheque even with a cocktail & malt whisky.

I always enjoy their lunch menu, where the prix fixe 3 course meal is a terrific value (try the ginger calamari!). I met an out-of-town colleague there for an early dinner Friday night and enjoyed the same delicious food, pleasant ambiance and expert, attentive & friendly service I've come to expect. We sampled all 3 sauces for our perfectly grilled fish (and I ended up agreeing with our waiter as to the best with my salmon) and shared the to-die-for creme brulee cheesecake.

This was our first time dining at Grill Fish. It was one of the restaurants in Foggy Bottom that popped up on OpenTable. With out of town guests staying near Georgetown, it was the perfect location. We were delighted with the friendly and informative waiter and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The simply prepared grilled trout was delicious as were the shrimp pasta dishes. It was too cold but the outside tables beckon for a return on a warmer day. We definitely plan to try brunch, or dinner again, at Grill Fish.

We were keen for some seafood and Grillfish did not disappoint. The Arctic char was perfectly cooked and the soft shell crab was among the best I have ever eaten (and I am crazy about soft shell crab). Our waiter Bubba provided friendly and efficient service and the wine and beer list was comprehensive. The pries were reasonable and I would highly recommend Grillfish for an informal seafood meal.

Couldn't wait to try this place. Went for cocktails lat time we were in D.C.. Loved their pineapple infused vodka and the very friendly bar. This time went for dinner. Food was good, nice wine by the glass, and service was very friendly. Paella, crab cakes and linguini with clams - none were disappointing. The bread wasn't anything great but it was served with an interesting tempanade and left plenty of room for the delicious entres. Will definely return next time we are in town.

After an amazing brunch at Logan Tavern, we asked our waiter to recommend a seafood restaurant for dinner. Little did we know that LT was part of EatWellDC which also owns Grillfish. He brought us a menu over and we were hooked on our dinner choice. Reservation made! Got to reservation on time and were seated immediately. Large group behind us was somewhat loud, but it was entertaining. some guests may not like being so close to a large group. The food was amazing and our waitress was so friendly. I got to try all the dipping sauces for my swordfish and loved the coconut red curry. Just the right amount of flavor! Can't wait to come back

Grillfish DC used to be one of my favorites, but after it remodeled its entrance and changed the menu a couple of years ago, things weren't the same. I (with two guests) tried again and were more than satisfied with our meal. The service was excellent (service in most DC restaurants seems to markedly improved). I really enjoy the simply grilled fish part of the menu.

The restaurant's décor was old and tired looking, same as it has been for a while. Food was tasteless and bland, swordfish entree was a very small portion about the size and thickness of a half of a slice of white bread cut diagonally, yet the price was high. My mussels in white wine butter and garlic sauce was bland. Service was good and attentive

The ice tea was good....but when served the ice was almost melted. I asked for more ice and the server brought more ice in a glass. But the refills were the same.....little ice. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Grillfish on Saturday - pistachio crusted mahi mahi was great as was the mixed grill and the crab cake. Our little one enjoyed the kids menu. Fun ambience - very attentive service. The only challenge is street parking as all the nearby garages seem to be closed on Saturdays - we lucked in to a spot on the street a few blocks away but beware you need to plan time to hunt for a spot... We'll be back!

I ate at the restaurant on August 22 2014. I had the seafood chowder, calamari and crab cake. The seafood chowder had little seafood to be found and hardly even had the flavor of seafood. The calamari was soggy and the dipping sauce tasted like diced tomatoes with no flavor a real disappointment for $20. The crab cake tasted good, but for $16 they brought me one 2 1/2 inch diameter crab cake with nothing else. Way overpriced. There are alot of really good seafood places in DC this place is not one of them. Overall experience was a big disppointment.

Based on the reviews, I asked for Bubba as our waiter. The service was great. The food was delicious. Since we had a large party, we selected a number of the starters, entrees and desserts. I am a dessert person and the creme bruleed cheesecake was yummy.
