Diner Reviews
  • "The deco was well done, love that the menus had a back light so you are able to read them. My only problem , it seem as if we were been rushed by the waitress she didn't give us time to make decisions between courses. Would probably stay longer and get more drinks if she wasn't in such rush, maybe her shift was ending. Still a great atmosphere would go back. The donuts are a must."

  • "I wanted a reservation for 7:00 or 7:30 pm and none were available so I took 7:45. No big deal about that but when I got there, the place was empty. Not sure why I couldn't get the earlier reservation. Also, only one or two tables came in later than that. We left about 9:15 and the place was still basically empty. Only 2 people at the bar and maybe 5 booths being used. Food was ok, service was good. I doubt if I will go back."

  • "Service was great but food was nothing special. Fried tofu, a vegetarian option, needed some sort of sauce or something to give it flavor other than grease. Loved the glowing menu! Would give it another try."

  • "A great experience at a restaurant is a combination of thoughtfully prepared food and excellent service. We experienced both. The food consisted of amazing, well-thought out dishes. We ordered three appetizers, two cocktails and two different main courses. All were excellent. I highly recommend the ceviche. Doug, our server, was prompt, personable, professional, and completely knowledgeable of the entire menu. He made excellent recommendations. We did expect the restaurant to be busier, but there was nothing wrong with our quiet evening. Overall, Grill One Sixteen is now one of my favorite restaurants."

  • "First time to this restaurant. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our table, but once seated, everything went very well. Both of us had fish entrees (grouper and sea bass), and they were excellent - fresh, properly cooked and presented very well. Wine selection very good with pricing reasonable."

  • "everything I have come to expect from Grill 116 was present at the South Tampa location my only complaint is my food was served cold."

  • "I took my husband and 3 of our almost grown children. The food was delicious and the desserts were out of this world. We all had a great time though it did look a bit on the romantic setting side. There were some other families but mostly couples when we went. I would highly recommend the place. A little pricey for family dining but nice for special occasions or date night and well worth it. We got out if there for a little over $300 for 5 of us with having desserts and a bottle of wine."

  • "Although our reservation was confirmed on OT, we never sat down due to no availability. We had an appetizer @ bar with drink and left for dinner somewhere else."

  • "A late Friday dinner, so we opted to sit at a bar table. GREAT view of the crowd--though a bit noisy since the noise carries 'up' to the higher bar seating. Excellent meal as always. And in and out rather quickly. One small point to Grille 116 bar management. Those of us who are hardcore martini drinkers find it off-putting when a martini glass (and yours are lovely) comes out HALF FULL for TWELVE DOLLARS. Do NOT try to tell us 'they're big glasses.' This seems to be an epidemic in Tampa restaurants. Get it together and serve full martinis. Oh, and on your menu, the word 'compliment' is incorrectly used 3+ times. It should be sides that 'complement' (spelled with an 'e' not an 'i') other foods. The error cheapens the menu!"

  • "I was bringing a date to this restaurant for her birthday and specifically noted on the reservations that I wanted a desert waiting on us when we arrived. This wasn't done. My steak tips we not well done as I asked, they were pink inside. The drink that was served to my date had a clear pink lipstick bottom lip imprint on it as if it hadn't even touched water to be washed. Birthdays are meant to be special, and there was a reason I wanted that desert there when we arrived. Needless to say , Grill 116 ruined my moment. Wont be returning."

  • "I especially appreciate the quality of food and value on their lunch menu. Also a very nice dinner spot. Decor is Miami Chic, black and white."

  • "All around the service was great, the food was very good, with the only exception being the caesar salad being a little strong on the anchovies. The environment was dimly lit and good for a date night. A little loud but it was packed and no fault of the restaurant, just the patrons talking. Overall I would go again and recommend it to friends!"

  • "We got seated right after we arrived. Drink in hand within 10 minutes of sitting. Food was very good. Was a littler loud but sitting in booth we didn't really notice it until we got up."

  • "The day before I receive a call from a lady verifying my reservation at 9:15pm. I confirmed. That evening we arrived at 9pm. We stepped up to the hostess, who lacked any personality, and she checked us in wrote my name down on a clip board and asked us to wait. There was a crowd of people waiting. By the time 10pm rolled around we still had not been seated and I had to approach the hostess who still didn't know how long. After waiting without one apology or explanation or even an offer to get us a drink from the staff we left. There are plenty of fine dinning establishment in Tampa that deserve your patronage than this place. Go somewhere else and I guarantee you will get treated better. Huge disappointment!"

  • "Took a first date to this place and it couldn't have gone better. It was very nice, quiet and clean. I loved that they had valet as well. I would recommend to anybody trying to impress a date, or as a night out with some friends for a special event."

  • "We had reservations although we had to wait 25 minutes, it was valentines day so it is understandable. There is a nice bar to grab a drink while you wait. The food all came out in a timely manner, looking and tasting amazing for being so busy. My steak was perfectly cooked it was the best steak I have ever had out. Our server took our picture for us was friendly and very helpful. I have eaten at other restaurants for valentines day this was the best service and food I have ever received. Being in the food service industry for the last 16 years I have high expectations and they surpass them I will recommend this place to all me friends."

  • "I took my parents here for my mom's birthday dinner. We order the pretzel loaf to start as an appetizer, it was pretty run of the mill and nothing exciting, but it was good. The highlight of the night were the entrees. My mom and I both ordered the Kona steak, which was absolutely fantastic. My dad ordered the snapper and that too was excellent, I tried a piece of that; I'd still take my steak over that, but it was delicious, also. The lowlight of the night was by far their "world famous donuts"; they were not good. They were greasy and it tasted like fries you get in a fast food restaurant that are cooked in the same grease as everything else. I love hot donuts so for me to say they are bad, it takes quite a lot. I'd recommend 116 still."

  • "It had been a long while since my last visit to a Grille One Sixteen at the N. Dale Mabry location. I wasn't disappointed by the ambiance of this restaurant. Modern, spacious and very clean. My only disappointment was by the hostess upon my arrival. My wife arrived first and was seated with no problem. When I arrived I stated my name -- "Sorry, we don't have a reservation under that name". I said but she is seated already. "You sure it was this location and not the N. Dale Mabry location? Yes I am certain. Did you seat a single female? "No we haven't seated a single female. Perplexed, I stepped into the restaurant area and dialed my wife. Before the call went through I spotted her sitting at the table. So I just walked in and sat down."

  • "Grille One Sixteen is now my go to spot for special occasions. My boyfriend and I ate there on Valentine's day and it was amazing. Our waiter Douglas was very attentive and up beat. There were candles out on every table with rose petals around them which made a very romantic feel. After we ate we couldn't stop reminiscing about how good our food and the ambiance was; till this day we randomly bring it up. The filet there was probably if not the best, one of the best steaks I have ever had. For the appetizer, the tempura lobster tails were phenomenal and even the Cesar salad was amazing. The cocktails were comparable also. Grille 116 definitely has a very trendy, modern feel without being pretentious. I look forward to the next time!"

  • "While the wait was a little longer than anticipated, we were kept informed as to how far we were on the waiting list. It was Valentines Day, afterall. All of the staff were friendly and accomodating. Everything was explained and suggestions made were great. The food was phenomenal!!! Overall, a great experience. We will most likely make this our Valentines Day tradition."

  • "Even thought we had a reservation we waited over 45 minutes for a table. Something they need to fix. Service was wonderful once seated and so was the food."

  • "We waited 30 min with a reservation. They need a better, more organized system to seat people. The foyer is far too small and it seems that the hostesses have difficulty finding the next party to seat.Once we finally got seated, the experience was great. There was no wine list, the waiter just read off a list. The service he provided was outstanding. The food was delicious as well. I got the Scottish Salmon, it was perfect. My husband got the filet, which he said was one of the best steaks he had ever had. They use a special oak grilling technique to cook all of the steaks. The house salad was far better than the Caesar salad. We shared a free raspberry truffle desert, again it was delicious."

  • "I love this place and has been here before. But this night our reservations was for 945pm and evident get seated until 1020pm. The manager came over to apologize and said they forgot about our reservation and offered bus a glass of champagne. I think we could have been compensated a little better. But overall the food was great, great atmosphere and drinks."

  • "Attentive, friendly service. Great ambiance. A tad noisy. The food was horribly disappointing. Steak was weirdly textured had an unappealing flavor. Grouper piccata was quality fish, but not enough piccata sauce and the mango salsa served with it was uninspired. Steamed broccoli was the veggie of the day. I can get that at Denny's. I was just very disappointed. I had been to the other location and was impressed. It's almost like the chef was missing in action that night. One would expect a higher level of attention paid to the food preparation and the choices. Dessert menu was equally blasé."

  • "My family, all of whom were adults met at Grille 116 for dinner. We had a 6 pm reservation. When we arrived there were several parties already dining. This was our first time at the South Tampa location. We have eaten at the Carrollwood location several times. My first thought as we sat down and ordered a drink was the music was too loud and somewhat unusual. As more people arrived the noise level became louder and louder. To compensate they turned the music up louder. We were having to almost yell across the table. I love the decor and ambience of Grille 116 but overall noise level is very loud. We loved the Neuske Bacon and the Wasabi Beef sliders. I had the snapper and it was ok to good."

  • "Great time. Dimly lit to encourage intimate conversation. Modern styling. Contemporary presentation. The rib eye is every bit worth it. Grouper portion is a great steak-sized slab."

  • "Excellent romantic restaurant. We celebrated Valentine's Day early and this was the perfect place to dine especially since we were given a booth. The Sea Bass was excellent along with the fried lobster tails for our appetizer. We will be dining there again."

  • "Service was prompt and friendly. Cocktails were balanced and not loaded with sugar and ice. Top notch atmosphere and a classy crowd. The the steaks however were underwhelming for the price. We had two different cuts of ribeye; bone-in and not. While they were cooked properly, the quality of meat was less than comparably priced steak houses (bland and not very tender). If you want an excellent $45 steak, I recommend Charley's, Berns, Ruth Chris, Capital Grille, etc. instead. The sides were nothing to write home about. I'll definitely return for the 'vibrant bar scene', but may shy away from dinner when there are so many reliable steak houses in the vicinity."

  • "It's a high overhead place that focuses much of the effort on a sophisticated, pampered approach. The food was a little unfocused with heavy saucing. Personally, I can do with a little less veneer, and a little better food."

  • "I never been before this time and I thought it was a great place to have a nice meal. The prices are little on the higher side, but the food was great. My date ordered fish and shrimp and she said it was outstanding, and I had a steak which was mouthwatering. I'd definitely recommend this place to any of my friends and hope to go there again soon."

  • "Once again, Open Table provides a GREAT recommendation! We are from Canada and wanted to find a nice place for dinner the night before we left on our cruise. It was walking distance from our hotel which was sooooo convenient. The atmosphere is very classy and chic. The light-up menus are very cool. There was lots of choices on the menu. We both ordered steak. I had the steak and lobster tail which was amazing. The salads were very good too. I also had a fancy drink, can't recall the name but it had lemonade and it was very good. Our server was very helpful and friendly. Overall, we loved the experience and would definitely go back if we are in the area!"

  • "We enjoyed dining at this restaurant with another couple. The atmosphere is trendy, and the light-up menus are a neat touch. Our service was very good, the food was good, but if we return my husband and I agree we would both try a different entree. We each had seafood - the orange glazed salmon and lobster tempura. Neither dish impressed us much, but we liked everything else (Caesar salad, appetizers and sides). Next time we'll order one of the steak options."

  • "I was unsure what to expect at this restaurant. But I am so glad we went with it! Our server, Walker, was attentive and knowledgeable. He gave us suggestions on his favorite appetizers and dishes and they were delicious. The bacon appetizer was interesting as neither of us had ever had bacon as an appetizer before. He made it sound incredibly tasty and it sure was. We ordered the salmon and scallops for our meal and we each had a taste of the other. The scallops were arguably the best scallops I have ever had. Full of flavor and paired perfectly with the grits. We will be visiting again!"
