  • "You can count on a wonderful meal whenever you visit Grille 43. The food is delicious and the choices are well proportioned, not overwhelming which leaves room for an appetizer- the Chicken Satay and Seared Ahi Tuna are favorites, or/and a dessert. The soups are complex and rich in flavor perfect for a cold day. The mussels are the best and the chef should contemplate turning this into a main entrée. The crab cake special was very satisfying, with delicate flavor from the rice and cherry tomatoes."

  • "The appetizer consisting of drunken shrimp and scallops was great. our steaks were cooked to order and delicious. The cheesecake was probably the worst I have ever had (one bite) so I don't recommend desert. The staff was professional, friendly and very accommodating. Overall a very nice dinner, the desert may have been a one-off so don't let that turn you away. I will dine at Grille #43 again,...just not for desert."

  • "The night we were there, there happened to be a group of about 10-12 younger people only drinking in the dining room and they were really loud, so a dinner with the wife was not so good since hearing each other was very difficult.....................but what can the restaurant do about that, however, they occupied lots of seats in the dining area and bought no food, so maybe not so good for the restaurant?"

  • "The staff is accommodating and friendly. Food was very good although noise level from bar is something to contend with. Parking is limited to valet, but they do a nice job. For a very good meal at reasonable, but not low cost, price, close to home, definitely recommended."

  • "I've been meaning to try this restaurant out and a "ladies night out" was the ticket. I had the special, grouper, which was excellent. My friend had salad, also excellent. A few things to "warn" about - parking is tight so there is only valet parking, which is free. The restaurant is small so expect to feel a bit crowded. Prices are on the high side, appetizers 10-17, salads 13-15, entrees 21-34, burgers/sandwiches 11-19. But overall, I'd say this place is worth a try. The food was better than I thought it would be, especially in a place right next to a gas station. It was busy/popular, so the rest of the menu must be pretty good! Reservations a must after 6:30pm."

  • "The food is good, fairly priced, well presented, even if menu is short. We are a couple, we wanted to try Grille 43 after driving by often and reading good reviews. Service was miserable, start to finish: a 10-minute wait for the waitress's first visit, lack of serving utensils and fresh plates for a shared appetizer plate, wine never topped off and one of our glasses taken away before we had finished the meal (?!), no water refills, and no interest in replacing used knives, side plates, and silverware. We had to ask our waitress for everything, and then gave up! Skipped dessert and coffee. I informed the manager of the poor service on exiting (left low low tip), and was told she was among their best, before "sorry." Seriously? Bye!"

  • "Very good dinner with service to match. We thought it was a bit pricey. Every thing is ala carte and sides are priced high. for 37. 00 for a 14 ounce bone in Rib eye served with nothing is a little steep. Makes it hard to consider eating there often: more of a special occasion."

  • "I said this before but hey must have changed chefs. Our favorite dishes have all changed - and for the worse. The black and blue salad had virtually no steak in it. The fish tacos are awful and they used to be my fav. The lobster salad is like a chefs salad"

  • "A great spot for lunch on busy Route 43 in Lake Bluff; really the only restaurant in the vicinity that's not a hot dog place or a fast-food chain...excellent hamburgers, very good salads. It's worth a trip. It's a relatively small place, so reservations, even for lunch, are a good idea."

  • "Grille No. 43 is our go to spot. Among our party we had Gluten/dairy allergies and a shellfish allergy. The server was knowledgeable about the dishes and consulted the kitchen when he was not sure. The menu has something for everyone from burgers and salads to roasted sea bass and beef tenderloin. The food is always well prepared with interesting sides (black rice, roasted veggies, etc.) They can handle groups with a max of about 15. It is not large and it can get noisy. This visit our party had grilled salmon, roasted sea bass, prime rib and a burger. All of us had the house salad which is very good. It has cranberries, apples and sugared pecans. Everyone was very happy with their meals and the service was excellent."

  • "We went here with a group of 10, after making a last-minute reservation on OpenTable. We arrived to see our table ready for us. The ambiance was nice- with perfect lighting- dim but not too dim. The menu was interesting and varied with generous portions and tempting specials. The food is downtown sophisticated with several "comfort food" options. We had delicious seafood and meat choices- the drunken shrimp with jalapeno, a fantastic shrimp/scallop special, super homemade soup, mussels, strip steak, fantastic sliders and pulled port.Our waiter Eric (and crew) provided excellent service. They were attentive but not overbearing. Provided nice wine service and handled the kids professionally, while accommodating to very discriminating adults."

  • "All five dishes were well presented and all plates cleaned. I'm usually a steak orderer but went with one of the night's specials, the Halibut. It was perfectly cooked and thoroughly delicious. The corn relish was very tasty but maybe with fresh corn out of season it lacked that little something (did I say it was very tasty anyway?) Good reviews for the flatbread app, Niçoise salad, shrimp and scallop special and the veggie sliders too. Service was friendly and efficient. Attentive without being overly so. The only possible downside was the noise level. It was sometimes hard to hear but we weren't trying to have a romantic evening so it was okay. I will almost certainly be back despite 30 minutes away."

  • "This is about the 4th time I've eaten at Grille No. 43, and it has disappointed me every time. Billed as an upscale restaurant (as evidenced by their menu descriptions and price), every meal I've had has missed the mark. I think low quality ingredients and poor execution are the problem. I had a pulled pork sandwich this time. The pork had that "old meat" taste. The barbecue sauce was unremarkable, and the pork was dry and chewy, despite the sauce. It was basically a huge bun with a mound of mediocre pork. My colleagues chose the Ahi sandwich special ($19 each!). The ahi was so thin, they mistook the onion for it! Cheap cheese and an aoli that tasted like 1000 island made things worse. I really WANT to like this place, but just can't."

  • "Not many restaurants in this area (Waukegan & Rte 176) except fast food and hot dog places. Grille 43 always has reliably good food; very good salads and burgers. Nice bar area with tvs. Can get very crowded at lunch, especially on Fridays, so reservations are a good idea. A small restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere; but noise can be very "energetic" when it's full."

  • "I had Salmon and my wife had pork chops. Both over cooked and dry as a bone. We should have sent out plates back but we were so hungry we just woofed it down. The wait staff was very good and attentive and when we did mention our dissatisfaction with our meal the manager came over, listened and bought us a couple glasses of wine. Previously, I had other meals that was very good, but for this meal only, I can't really recommend Grille 43"

  • "Friday night was very quiet, tonic was flat, Kevin, the bartender forgot the fruit garnishment on 2 different occasions, Amy, our attendant was okay but we have had much better service. Obviously they were having an off night, I'm hoping this was the case as we enjoy the food and cocktails very much."
