  • "Had a great meal at the Grille. Really enjoyed the steak tartare and the salmon wrapped in greek pastry. The rosemary gnocchi side dish was a nice surprise."

  • "The food was excellent at the Grille, very accommodating with changing side dishes. Our waiter was outstanding. I would go back there again and again. My compliments to the Chef!"

  • "I came here Sunday morning with 2 of my girlfriends and we enjoyed sipping on a variety of Belinis at the bottomless bar (no pun intended), the friendly staff and delicious buffet options. I know, I know, I know.. when you say buffet you ask yourself, "Really? Buffet at the Morrison House?". Yes!! Not just any buffet, they have a sweet and savory Crepe station and a duck carving station that exceeds expectations. The Sous Chef Johnny joyfully describes the duck as he prepares it right in front of you! Meanwhile the kitchen is working on your eggs cooked your way (even benedict). Patrick, the manager, came by and ensured we were enjoying our Brunch, very professional. We will be back for sure for another elegant buffet brunch :)"

  • "I enjoyed the nice and quiet setting of the restaurant. The food was great and provided a nice and romantic environment."

  • "Morrison House is off the beaten path, and the Grille is hidden away within the hotel's first floor. It's not a cohesive restaurant, but two small, separated dining rooms - one with a bar & piano. I was in the other room, which was small, intimate, and incredibly quiet - expect to whisper during your meal. The salmon entree was absolutely delicious. The rib-eye with Yorkshire pudding was tasty but the table decided that our family recipe for Yorkshire is much better. I have a dairy allergy and the chef made dairy-free recommendations, but then the servers mixed up what was brought out and weren't sure which side was the dairy-free one - not exactly comforting. I was fine, but it wasn't what I expected at a restaurant of this caliber."

  • "Brunch was great accompanied by soft jazz on piano. Not a lot of selection on the buffet, but everything there was top notch."

  • "2 of us had an early dinner there. the French onion soup and the scallops are to die for.We sat in the bar area vs and dining room but it was early and quiet and there was a piano player providing us with music."

  • "The food was great and an interesting mix of some flavors. Our waiter, Grant, was awesome. The bartender neeeds a little help, glassware was spotted and looked dirty, he looked a little offended when I said something, but I am thinking if I am paying $12-$15/glass for something I would like it in a clean glass. Overall the place is very charming and look forward to hosting my wedding reception there!"

  • "Excellent food using very fresh ingredients. We went there this morning and the roasted duck was sensational. The size and quality of the buffet was wonderful. They also had buckwheat crepes with several fillings. My wife and daughter devoured their crepes with nutella and bananas and I saw they did some with prosciutto or smoked salmon. To say nothing of the services, which was superior. Great spot overall."

  • "Te menu was limited and the food was okay. Our server was nice but must have been new. The bartender came to our table to verify what we had ordered because the waiter did not speaker particularly good English."

  • "morrison grille is a beautiful historic place. We were there for the weekend for our anniversary, and could not have had a more enjoyable and memorable dinner. The service was spot on, and the food was absolutley awesome. I had the scallops and my husband had the steak. Our appetizer w as awesome, the drinks were excellent. Service was attentive but not overbearing. We went to the piano bar for nightcap. This is definetly a grown up place. Pricey, but well worth it. Take the person you love here for a wonderful evening, and remember to dress up! You'll love it."

  • "We just happened to find a reservation for the Grille (thanks to open table) and we were treated to lovely evening. From the Valet who took care of our car , the hostess who sweetly seated us. all the attentive waiters, a chat from the manager, the chef's amuse, the wonderful main courses ( salmon and filet mignon) and the delightful shared chocolate tart. Wow, not sure what we were expecting, but this really impressed us! Old world manners and service combined with delish farm to table food. What more could you ask for?"

  • "Ambience was really nice - small intimate dining room. Service was not what one would expect from such a place. Had to request more wine, water, coffee etc. more than once. Portion size on the scallops was small - only received 2 scallops, when the table next to us received 4 in their orders. My husband did the wine pairing dinner - not worth the price. I requested a list of wines served and was told he was too busy to get me the information. We had a gift card that was supposed to cover the tip, and they would not take the tip out of the card value. Fortunately we had some cash to cover the tip, but not a good way to end the evening. I would not go back (except maybe for a couple of drinks to use the value remaining on the card."

  • "We were celebrating a birthday, and we really enjoyed the food. They didn't have the wine we ordered, but had a lovely substitution. I would definitely return."

  • "Wait staff and management were pleasant and solicitous. The food was disappointing. Too many mismatched ingredients on the plate."

  • "We had not been to the Morrison House before so we went for our Anniversary. First let me say the food is fantastic and the service was excellent. The dining room is just one big open room and it looses a little bit of its charm because of this. Otherwise we had a great experience."

  • "Food and service were great, the boutique hotel is very charming and makes this a great place; nice bar, piano playing the whole time, very cozy sitting room; really a fabulous find. 2 drawbacks: one it was a bit pricey, two, there were dogs (I assume associated with the hotel) which were stored in the next room and they were going crazy. surprised, frankly, no one sougt t fix that, it permeated every room. Wont stop me from coming back, though..."

  • "I've lived in this area for quite a long time and I had never heard of the Morrison House but I am glad I found it. My husband and I went there for a special occasion and it was very good. The night we went there was price fix menu and I had wanted to choose an item off the menu but couldn't. I would have liked to know this in advance. As it was the menu was very good and we will go back."

  • "I was not impressed by the food or options. When I asked for eggs, I got like half a dozen scrambled eggs on a plate. It was a gross turnoff. I also asked for a crepe without banana but the banana was still added. The piano playing was nice and server was great. I just expected more."

  • "We love food and we love wine. We have been wanting to go to The Grille for quite some time because it seemed to have everything we love: creative dishes with great ingredients, fabulous wine, ambiance and jazz/piano. We went for Valentine's Day expecting it to be romantic as well. We were seated in the dining room in a different room and as far from the music - we couldn't hear any music. The lighting was too bright to be intimate. The menu was a pre-fix menu that lacked any luster. The ingredients were not integrated and even seemed puzzling at points. Overall the menu just seemed to fall short of where the ingredients need - I found myself analyzing what was missing or how if only "this" or "that" were added it would be great"

  • "I attended the Grille for breakfast on Saturday. It is a beautiful place and clearly not a place you would seat-yourself, yet there was no host/hostess as we entered. After we finally did sit down, it was about 15 minutes before we were offered water or had a drink order taken. After further waiting in this quaint little place the young waiter with sweat on his brow apologized for the delay and it was revealed someone hadn't shown up for work that day and it was him along with another to fill the water glasses and attend to the clients. Despite the wait, the food was excellent, the room cozy and I would recommend it."

  • "The food was good - I did not realize when I made the reservation that they would not be using there regular menu and instead would be serving a et meal to very one. The food was good but the portions small and there were several items on the menu that I do not eat. I did try some new foods that were okay but will probably not eat again like fois gras but some items I had to big of an aversion to too even try and they had no substitutes."

  • "....was WAY too stuffy for my taste. The Piano Bar Room is the ONLY room I'd consider dining in if I were to return., as the other dining rooms are compartmentalized, small and cold. The service is great as is the food. It is also unnecessarily expensive."

  • "Tried this restaurant at Christmas, poor service, food cold, wrong orders. Decided to give the restaurant a second chance, wrong decision, same poor service etc. Will never go back, suggest they go into another business and stop pretending to be a restaurant"

  • "The meal was incredibly delicious! The highlight of the meal was having the Chef come to our table to answer questions and receive compliments firsthand. Will definitely go back!"

  • "Only 9 tables in dining room; it's charming & food/service are wonderful! Very romantic! Staff check on you just the right amt.& so amiable! Food is absolutely great! Staff at your beck & call for anything you need/want. Person in charge of bar (also prob. sommelier) actually came out to ask what I thought of cocktail I ordered (blend of Tequila, Grand Marnier, Habenero Soda, Cucumber Juice & Hellfire Bitters). It was quite interesting and I really enjoyed it! They have a la carte menu & 4- & 5-course fixed price menus ($65 & $75). I got 4-course & great cuz you order 2 appetizers, 1 main course & 1 dessert. I always love appetizers--got Endive/Chicory Salad & Steak Tartare-both very great! Entree--Katafi Wrapped Scottish Salmon-excellent!"

  • "I celebrate birthdays 4 times a year with my mom and two sisters. We very often try a new restaurant. This was our 1st time at the Grille. We chose the dining room for a quieter experience. We were pleased with the menu selections, service and food quality. The scallops were excellent!! During our 4 hour meal, we were never hurried. Afterwards we stopped in at the piano bar. If it wasn't so late we would have stayed longer. What fun. We will go back again."

  • "Has been a while since we dined at the Morrison House, and we were disappointed to find things distinctly rough around the edges. No candle or flower on the table, no one greeting upon arrival, wrinkly linens, so-so food…will not be going back until I hear it fixes its problems."

  • "What a great place! Food's excellent, service was outstanding. Bar area doubles as a lounge for local singers to walk in and sing a tune to the diners. Very, very nice."

  • "The best restaurant in my opinion in Alexandria--from a very demanding foodie who lives in Alexandra and eats out several times a week. Lovely setting!"

  • "Great food, though the service seemed to be a little disappointed about allowing riff raff from restaurant week. The meal was impeccable and made up for the lack of warmth which I expect from a restaurant that is at that price point. But really -- the food was amazing."

  • "Six of us had a very enjoyable and delicious meal. The service was excellent, with special care taken with one member of our group who needs a salt free meal. We will go back again -- soon!!"

  • "They didn't seem to have a check in desk for reservations and we waited in limbo for some time before being acknowledged, then a long time again before we were seated. I believe it was crowded due to Restaurant Week, but there was a lapse in communication. Once seated, however, the wait staff was wonderful and very friendly. The food was superb and came out at just the right time."

  • "We had dinner here during Restaurant Week. Knowing there was a piano bar, we asked to be in the room with the piano. Unfortunately, no one mentioned that the piano player does not begin until 8:00 p.m. and since our reservation was at 6, we never heard the piano. Our server offered very little information about the menu and even less about the wine pairings that could accompany the courses. No attempt to promote the wine pairings or discuss what they were. Even when the wines were brought to the table, we had to ask what the wines were and the answers were "chardonnay", "cabernet" and "port". Not what should happen at a restaurant of this quality. Pumpkin soup was too thick, but beef burgundy was perfect."

  • "While the restaurant is upscale, it is not pretentious. I felt at home and comfortable the minute I pulled into the driveway. The bar tender has his own amazing and strong cocktail concoctions that all have a story behind them. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the food was wonderful. I would highly recommend this restaurant!"
