Grill 23 & BarDidn't live up to the hype.I had been hearing about Grill 23's in "best steakhouse in Boston" conversations for years, so was really excited to finally try it. In our visit, it definitely didn't live up to the hype, or the cost. My Kobe cap steak was ordered Medium Rare, and was served Medium Well, and my wife's Filet was ordered Medium but came back closer to Rare. Not a big deal at most restaurants, but when your whole game is steak it should be at least the one thing you get right. Despite having a reservation, we were also seated in the bar next to a party of noisy children, which eliminated the prospects of the romantic night out we had hoped. Sides were good, but that's not why we were there, right?6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, steak especially!Great food, steak especially! Great for entertaining a client. Excellent service. A little loud, but nothing you can't overcome if you're with a group.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe staff went out of theirThe staff went out of their way to make this occasion, our 35th wedding anniversary even more special. We had a great table to two tucked in a back corner. The service was outstanding. Loved having options for sides, e.g. beets; however it was expensive in that e.g. a steak came with nothing but onions.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Sreakhouse in BostonGrill 23 is the best steakhouse in Boston. The fish dishes are good as well, but the steaks are the best. Excellent service and a nice (but expensive) wine selection. While it sometimes can be too noisy on the main level, the ambience and settingbis fantastic. Be prepared for a big check though, as it is very expensive.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food Great ServiceHad the usual steak and swordfish, they were quite good but not as good as the service, that was superb.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMPicked this restaurant basedPicked this restaurant based on best steakhouse in boston, but it has a variety of items offered on the menu. The food was spectacular, service was outstanding. The waitstaff goes out of their way to make sure you have everything you need without feeling in your way. Our server was superb and attentitive. Truly enjoyed our experience and would definately revisit in the future. The coconut cake is delicious!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent DinnerGreat service. Great food. Brett was an excellent waiter Will go back again in the future.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfection!Great dinner. Steak frites and beef tenderloin were superb. Service was impeccable. Great city energy.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food!We had steaks and the fish special (halibut). Both were stupendous!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food and serviceConsistently wonderful food and service. Gracious wait staff. Very well run front of house.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGood againSpecial dinner for my daughters 21st Birthday and her boy friend who flew in from Michigan. Requested a quieter table and was seated upstairs where I would rather be for a quiet dinner, versus being down stairs in the main dinning room. Food was awesome, service was great. Another successful night out when it counts.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food; ok service. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and the asparagus side was delicious - slightly crunchy with flakes of garlic and salt - divine; the wine was also beautiful. However, ambience was crowded feeling rather than intimate. Service was only fair; felt like they were rushing our meal (delivered the steak before we had finished our salad). We ordered a second bottle of our red with our entrees, and we were not offered new wine glasses. Overall, the food gets an A but the service gets a B.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThird VisitFood was excellent. I ordered the 100 day aged rib-eye and it was cooked perfectly. Great flavor and very tender.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Steak We Ever Had!Definitely the best steak we ever had!!!! Pricy but well worth it!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time in BostonI found this place through a "best of" list. It has been voted one of the best places in New England to get a steak. The steak we ordered was, indeed, excellent. Great cut of meat, perfectly cooked (truly medium rare). Swordfish steak was also excellent. So were the sides. The atmosphere was a little boring though. After receiving a confirmation call message in which the hostess specifically asked for a call back, I was surprised when the place was less than half full on the night we dined. (It was a Sunday night.) There is a tiny bar that we probably would have preferred to our table. The food was great though, the service very good, the bill high. We went to a pub afterward, to end the evening on a more lively note.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectPossibly the best steak I've had. Knowledgable & helpful service. Hard to fault.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellenceOur experience at Grill 23 is excellent every time we go.
Saturday night was no exception. Our waiter, Benjamin,
made things so simple. His recommendations were perfect.
We will be back soon!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Steak Ever!!My daughter & I ate here while I was visiting Boston. I took the advice I had read on- line & ordered the Cap steak & truffled potato tots.. The steak was the best I have ever tasted. The seasoning was perfect as what the fat to lean ratio. It could have been cut w a plastic knife. The tater tots were also beyond compare. We also had a side of asparagus. This was good but a bit undercooked for my taste. The size of the sides is impressive & one side is more than enough for two. Our service was friendly, attentive but not pushy. We ate upstairs & the noise level was perfect for conversing. This IS an expensive restaurant but well worth the price. I will definitely return on my next visit to Boston.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Steak ever !!Highly recommend this wonderful place for outstanding steak. Have dined at numerous steakhouses and this is one of the best. We had reservations and were seated almost immediately. Our server Bobby was at the top of his game and could have not been better. We all had steak, different cuts. Two had the 100 day aged ribeye, one had the twin filet and I had the bone-in New York. All of them were cooked to perfection and literally melted in your mouth. We shared 4 sides and all were wonderful especially the Grill 23 tots, excellent. You will not be disappointed.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA must in dining experienceEverything was sooooo good. Everyone had a great meal. Very special. A must have for desert is the chocolate chip cookies. They are fresh and and chocolate is oozing. Dinner was $100.00 a person without alcohol. Worth it.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMNight out without the kidsMy wife and I had a night out without the kids and ate at this established steakhouse in downtown Boston. They delivered with great service, seated promptly regular enough trips to the table to meet our dining needs and good suggestions for food and wine. The steak while expected to be on the high end of price, was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth! I got the 100 day aged 18 oz Ribeye. Well worth the cost in my book. The bacon three cheese 'mac-n-cheese' was excellent as well as a side. The garlic Mashed potatoes left something to be desired probably should have gone baked potatoe instead but not terrible either. My wife got the onion and cheese risotto and she loved it. We also got the choc cake for desert and...amazing5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGo,go,goFrom the moment we arrived valet parking was quick and friendly...Upon entering the restraunt we were met by a very friendy person who took us to our table..Once there our waiter was outstanding..What ever we needed he filled our wishes..From top to bottom a first class operation...Highly recommended..Food was outstanding!!!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA definite perfect 10!!!!My wife and I had a surprise visitor who was in Boston on business. We did not know what his preferences were with respect to dining so we decided to take him to Grill 23 on the assumption that a great steak dinner is hard to beat.Without a doubt ,we knew we made the perfect choice. Our guest raved about his steak and our choice of wine with dinner.I, personally, was thrilled that I was able to obtain a last minute reservation ON-Line and received a perfect table overlooking the main dining room from the balcony. My wife and I both agree we will be back very soon.Thank you for hospitality!!!!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day Annual EventWent with my mom and sisters for Mother's day and as usual Grill 23 was great. It was not very crowded so it was a nice amount of noise and atmosphere. Our waiter, Daniel, was excellent. He was personable and made the lunch all the better. Greatday, will be back next year.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI consider Grill 23 to beI consider Grill 23 to be the Number One restaurant in Boston......absolutely the best overall dining experience available......I am not a new customer to Grill 23 and I look forward to my next trip to Boston, from Maine, to dine there again !!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Occasion..Grill 23 would be a great place to go on a special occasion. The ambience and food were incredible, a bit noisy but well worth the visit.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was EXTREMELY loud - andIt was EXTREMELY loud - and not in a good way necessarily. We were seated at a tiny table for two right next to the bar upstairs and it was difficult to hear my husband. Food was good, but it was very noisy!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest steak in the cityMy wife and I love this place and they did a great job for our anniversary. Got us a nice table, greeted my wife accordingly, and brought a complimentary dessert. Our waiter Jeff was energetic and great. Our steaks came out a little overdone the first time so he 2 new ones refired quickly and they were perfect. You have to come here for special occassions5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMLast minute dinner reservationsWe made the reservations in the afternoon and were able to eat around 530. We were seated upstairs by the bar so we could see the kentucky derby, the food was so fresh and so good and the service was outstanding!! Loved Adam5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place was recommendedThis place was recommended to us a few months back by the concierge at the W Hotel. We can not thank him enough for we have been back several times. If you are looking for attention to detail great table service and great food do not miss an chance to make a reservation and treat your self to an excellent night out.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday DinnerAmazing dinner! We are both mid-twenty somethings and wanted to enjoy a nice night out for a special birthday dinner. Our wait staff was attentive but not overly so. Our waters and wine glasses were never empty. Our server was very knowlegdeable about the wine selection and was able to pick a wine (in our price range) that was exactly what we wanted. The food all came out fast and was the best steak I have had. I had put on our reservation that it was a birthday celebration, we didn't mention it once we got there, but when dessert came out there was a candle and a chocolate happy birthday sign on the chocolate cake. This was wonderful. Great staff, super knowledgeable, fast and efficent. My only complaint was that it was a bit loud.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAsk for less saltI'm glad we asked our server to be light on the salt. Last time my husband and I went to Grill 23, our steak was so salty it took away from the amazing piece of cooked meat underneath. Thankfully our server knew what we were talking about.
Our steaks were perfect. All the food was excellent from our iceberg wedge salad to our amazing desserts.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOver all the food was amazing.Over all the food was amazing. My filet was perfectly prepared and delicious. Our desserts were incredible as well. My disappointment was in the steak tartare and tuna tartare! I thought they would be some of the best in the city, but they were pretty average. The atmosphere was lovely and service was prompt. Overall a wonderful night.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMHad the 100 Day Aged 18ozHad the 100 Day Aged 18oz Ribeye in a bernaise sauce--hands down, one of the 5 best steaks I've ever eaten in my life! I like my meat medium-well, which most restaurants deliver either too pink or too done for my tastes. This was perfect--mostly light brown with a hint of pink, succulent, melt in your mouth taste. The beets were a welcome side dish. My wife is not a meat lover, but she felt the salmon was very moist and tender and the accompanying risotto was very flavorful. Portions are HUGE. Yes, you are paying a lot, but you get a lot. Trust me, I have been to a couple of restaurants in Cambridge and metroWest recently where I plaid similar prices and had far lower quality and quantity. And for dessert--PROFITEROLES!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWent to dinner with colleagues;Went to dinner with colleagues; we were seated upstairs and had a wonderful dining experience. The ambiance was excellent. The tuna tartar was tasteful, great side dishes especially mac n cheese, asparagus, and those who ordered steak were pleased.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMPretty good food, decent serviceThis was our first time at Grill 23.
Food: For an appetizer we got the crab cake. DELICIOUS! For an entree, I got the steak frites. The fries were fantastic, the steak was tender, but a little too salty for my liking. My friend got the pot roast which was phenomenal. For dessert, we got the bread pudding and creme brûlée. Neither of the desserts were spectacular. Go for the actual food, not for the desserts.
Service: It was fantastic until the rush came in. We were about 15 minutes late for our 6:30 reservation on a Thursday and were still seated right away. Once the business crowd came in, it was almost as if our server and water filler forgot about us! We were frustrated, so that's why we gave it three stars.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSince the moment we walkedSince the moment we walked in the door the service/ staff was great. We even had our own private room :) very happy. One small complaint was that I couldn't get one separate check for my business expensing.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been to nearly everyI've been to nearly every high end steakhouse in Boston and Grill 23 is my favorite so far. We went as a group and the staff was very accomodating. Some of us ordered the Steak Frites which was phenomenal as was the Dry Aged Sirloin. Don't forget to order the Mashed Potatoes and top it off with the Profiteroles for dessert, so good! Everyone was talking about how good their steak was the next day, I'll definitely be making a return trip.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWent to Grill 23 for an officeWent to Grill 23 for an office dinner. Small group (6 people), but European and US nationals. Burrata appetizer and the 100 day steak rated outstanding by my colleagues. Also great wine list (we tried the red and white Châteauneuf-du-Pape). The server was knowledgeable, not pushy and very attentive. Only issue was with the ambiance. We were upstairs, and there was a presentation going on in the private room. Not noisy, but distracting (door should have been closed).4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were fantastic!Food and service were fantastic! They were very accomodating when we requested a more "cozy" table and my fiance was served an amazing dessert for his birthday. I would highly recommend Grill 23 for any occasion.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Kobe Cap Steak was, asThe Kobe Cap Steak was, as promised by our outstanding server, a memorable experience. Best steak ever (also the most expensive). But worth it. Great food.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSolid performance/met expectationsSolid performance/met expectations for a business lunch/dinner grill. Wide variety of menu items, wide variety of beer, wine and liquor. Service was quick and courteous, and although courses came out quickly, we were not rushed. Easy walk from Copley Plaza area and would return.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy steak was cooked perfectly! My steak was cooked perfectly! Excellent service as well.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMService was good, menu wasService was good, menu was good. It's a bit touristy, has an older feel to it. The only downside was how loud it was. You had to yell across the table to your companion. Definitely not a romantic setting. Lots of large dinner groups.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMLoud ..........an Oscar toLoud ..........an Oscar to the Chocolate cookies desert that was served with a little cup to dip in this was just GREAT!!!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMarathon memorial dinnerI had wanted to be as close to the Boston Maraton site as possible in order to support local businesses in this tragic time. Abe and Louie's, the Capital Grill and L'Espalier were all still unable to open due to ongoing police activities. Grill 23 has been a favorite anyway and happened to be only two blocks from the Maraton memorial site at the corner of Boylston Street. We arrived 30 minutes early and paid our respects at the tribute site where Tv crews from all over the world were broadcasting. We then had a wonderful and somewhat poignant dinner which was up to the usual standards of excellence. We then went back to the Boylston Street site where we heard about the MIT shooting and drove home noting markedly increased police activity.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a large party sittingWe had a large party sitting next to us and they were very noisy. It was hard to enjoy conversation and the service could have been better. The server focused mostly on the larger party.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat evening out, food andGreat evening out, food and service were great. Much too noisy dining on the first floor however. I wish we had requested a table on the second floor.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSteaks outstanding, but chickenSteaks outstanding, but chicken a little disappointing and dry. Martini was huge and everything else, including desserts was great. Pricey but highly recommended.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing. WeThe food was amazing. We had the 100 day aged steak and the swordfish. The only complaint I would say is it too loud but understandable with the high ceilings, I was just hoping for something a little more romantic. But would definetly recommend this restaurant!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
