Grill 23 & BarMother's Day Annual EventWent with my mom and sisters for Mother's day and as usual Grill 23 was great. It was not very crowded so it was a nice amount of noise and atmosphere. Our waiter, Daniel, was excellent. He was personable and made the lunch all the better. Greatday, will be back next year.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI consider Grill 23 to beI consider Grill 23 to be the Number One restaurant in Boston......absolutely the best overall dining experience available......I am not a new customer to Grill 23 and I look forward to my next trip to Boston, from Maine, to dine there again !!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Occasion..Grill 23 would be a great place to go on a special occasion. The ambience and food were incredible, a bit noisy but well worth the visit.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest steak in the cityMy wife and I love this place and they did a great job for our anniversary. Got us a nice table, greeted my wife accordingly, and brought a complimentary dessert. Our waiter Jeff was energetic and great. Our steaks came out a little overdone the first time so he 2 new ones refired quickly and they were perfect. You have to come here for special occassions5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMLast minute dinner reservationsWe made the reservations in the afternoon and were able to eat around 530. We were seated upstairs by the bar so we could see the kentucky derby, the food was so fresh and so good and the service was outstanding!! Loved Adam5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place was recommendedThis place was recommended to us a few months back by the concierge at the W Hotel. We can not thank him enough for we have been back several times. If you are looking for attention to detail great table service and great food do not miss an chance to make a reservation and treat your self to an excellent night out.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday DinnerAmazing dinner! We are both mid-twenty somethings and wanted to enjoy a nice night out for a special birthday dinner. Our wait staff was attentive but not overly so. Our waters and wine glasses were never empty. Our server was very knowlegdeable about the wine selection and was able to pick a wine (in our price range) that was exactly what we wanted. The food all came out fast and was the best steak I have had. I had put on our reservation that it was a birthday celebration, we didn't mention it once we got there, but when dessert came out there was a candle and a chocolate happy birthday sign on the chocolate cake. This was wonderful. Great staff, super knowledgeable, fast and efficent. My only complaint was that it was a bit loud.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAsk for less saltI'm glad we asked our server to be light on the salt. Last time my husband and I went to Grill 23, our steak was so salty it took away from the amazing piece of cooked meat underneath. Thankfully our server knew what we were talking about.
Our steaks were perfect. All the food was excellent from our iceberg wedge salad to our amazing desserts.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOver all the food was amazing.Over all the food was amazing. My filet was perfectly prepared and delicious. Our desserts were incredible as well. My disappointment was in the steak tartare and tuna tartare! I thought they would be some of the best in the city, but they were pretty average. The atmosphere was lovely and service was prompt. Overall a wonderful night.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMHad the 100 Day Aged 18ozHad the 100 Day Aged 18oz Ribeye in a bernaise sauce--hands down, one of the 5 best steaks I've ever eaten in my life! I like my meat medium-well, which most restaurants deliver either too pink or too done for my tastes. This was perfect--mostly light brown with a hint of pink, succulent, melt in your mouth taste. The beets were a welcome side dish. My wife is not a meat lover, but she felt the salmon was very moist and tender and the accompanying risotto was very flavorful. Portions are HUGE. Yes, you are paying a lot, but you get a lot. Trust me, I have been to a couple of restaurants in Cambridge and metroWest recently where I plaid similar prices and had far lower quality and quantity. And for dessert--PROFITEROLES!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWent to dinner with colleagues;Went to dinner with colleagues; we were seated upstairs and had a wonderful dining experience. The ambiance was excellent. The tuna tartar was tasteful, great side dishes especially mac n cheese, asparagus, and those who ordered steak were pleased.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSince the moment we walkedSince the moment we walked in the door the service/ staff was great. We even had our own private room :) very happy. One small complaint was that I couldn't get one separate check for my business expensing.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been to nearly everyI've been to nearly every high end steakhouse in Boston and Grill 23 is my favorite so far. We went as a group and the staff was very accomodating. Some of us ordered the Steak Frites which was phenomenal as was the Dry Aged Sirloin. Don't forget to order the Mashed Potatoes and top it off with the Profiteroles for dessert, so good! Everyone was talking about how good their steak was the next day, I'll definitely be making a return trip.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWent to Grill 23 for an officeWent to Grill 23 for an office dinner. Small group (6 people), but European and US nationals. Burrata appetizer and the 100 day steak rated outstanding by my colleagues. Also great wine list (we tried the red and white Châteauneuf-du-Pape). The server was knowledgeable, not pushy and very attentive. Only issue was with the ambiance. We were upstairs, and there was a presentation going on in the private room. Not noisy, but distracting (door should have been closed).4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were fantastic!Food and service were fantastic! They were very accomodating when we requested a more "cozy" table and my fiance was served an amazing dessert for his birthday. I would highly recommend Grill 23 for any occasion.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Kobe Cap Steak was, asThe Kobe Cap Steak was, as promised by our outstanding server, a memorable experience. Best steak ever (also the most expensive). But worth it. Great food.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy steak was cooked perfectly! My steak was cooked perfectly! Excellent service as well.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMService was good, menu wasService was good, menu was good. It's a bit touristy, has an older feel to it. The only downside was how loud it was. You had to yell across the table to your companion. Definitely not a romantic setting. Lots of large dinner groups.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMarathon memorial dinnerI had wanted to be as close to the Boston Maraton site as possible in order to support local businesses in this tragic time. Abe and Louie's, the Capital Grill and L'Espalier were all still unable to open due to ongoing police activities. Grill 23 has been a favorite anyway and happened to be only two blocks from the Maraton memorial site at the corner of Boylston Street. We arrived 30 minutes early and paid our respects at the tribute site where Tv crews from all over the world were broadcasting. We then had a wonderful and somewhat poignant dinner which was up to the usual standards of excellence. We then went back to the Boylston Street site where we heard about the MIT shooting and drove home noting markedly increased police activity.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat evening out, food andGreat evening out, food and service were great. Much too noisy dining on the first floor however. I wish we had requested a table on the second floor.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSteaks outstanding, but chickenSteaks outstanding, but chicken a little disappointing and dry. Martini was huge and everything else, including desserts was great. Pricey but highly recommended.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing. WeThe food was amazing. We had the 100 day aged steak and the swordfish. The only complaint I would say is it too loud but understandable with the high ceilings, I was just hoping for something a little more romantic. But would definetly recommend this restaurant!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMthe food here is always excellentthe food here is always excellent and its more than the steak...if you are being dragged here by a red meat person there are very good options that set this apart from a "steak house" ....the service was impeccable.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFlawless from Beginning to End!My girlfriend & I came into Grill 23 for an impromptu birthday night and snagged two seats at the downstairs bar. Immediately, the bartender assisted my slightly picky friend by making a drink she found online without any hesitation. He was very knowledgeable, especially about the daily oysters & even informed us what type of water they were plucked from! We opted for steak tartar & oyster (obviously!) before our entrees. The manager, Jake, came to chat and made sure everything was going perfectly. He wished my friend a happy birthday, was a true pleasure to speak with and he didn't overstay his welcome as many steakhouse managers do!
The bartender made our meal & experience a true pleasure, they even brought my friend a bday dessert! T4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat steakIt was a very nice place to take my GF for our anniversary. The food was amazing, best steak I've ever had. Usually, unless she makes her own steak, at other restaurant's she'll ask for A1, At Grill23 she asked but the waiter said to try it first, and she did and loved it. So Grill23 is really an amazing place for a great steak dinner, and great service.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Caesar salad was mediocreThe Caesar salad was mediocre at best, but the dry aged ribeye was outstanding. One of the very best.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were seated upstairs -We were seated upstairs - which was much quieter - I assume because we had our children with us. Most tables with children were upstairs. I would request downstairs if you want more of the "scene." It was still nice and our waiter was terrific. He was quick and witty with our tween boys as well.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMPhenominal Holiday MealOur family has a strict rating system called the Smith Family Review, we do it at the end of every meal when we eat out as a fun tradition. Grill 23 was the first to ever achieve our highest rating, 50 that's 5 people all voting "10!) Our waiter Tim was phenomenal, I brought my family; adolescent and teenage sons, he was respectful and the most knowledgeable, professional and tactical I have ever seen. He added to a wonderful meal and memorable holiday meal for my family.
It is important to note that I have a love and passion for great steak and red wine, you have maintained your standing in my eyes as the best our city has to offer, the 100 day ribeye's were out of this world!! Thanks Again3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe throughly enjoyed our meal,We throughly enjoyed our meal, the steak melted in mouth. The server was very personable. Would recommend to friends who are heading to Boston3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebrating my mom's 60thCelebrating my mom's 60th birthday at Grill 23 was the best dining experience ever. From the moment we walked in the restaurant meeting the hostess straight through the very end was a delightful experience. Not only was Jeff our waiter very pleasant, attentive and friendly but the gentleman with the water always making sure our glass was never empty to the hostess who directed us to our table, checking back in with us to make sure we were taken care of. I would dine at Grill 23 again.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to Grill 23 many,We have been to Grill 23 many, many times and as always, the food was absolutely wonderful. The oysters were fresh and succulent, the steak cooked to perfection, the cocktails and wine were excellent. Our server was very good and efficient. In fact, if I have one complaint it is that she was a little too efficient. When dining at Grill 23, my husband always view it as an experience where the meal should be savored and enjoyed. This time, while dining out with friends we felt extremely rushed. Our entire meal lasted only 90 minutes! We have never had such a quick meal there!Everything was served in rapid succession leaving no time to sip our drinks between courses. We felt like there was a rush to turn the table over for the next seating.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMCame here for restaurant weekCame here for restaurant week and was just blown away by the food and the service. My boyfriend had the steak instead of the brisket and it was outstanding. The waiter recommended I get the fish instead of the brisket and he was right... The fish was an enormous portion and the flavors were so succulent. The cocktails were excellent as was the service.. Which I was not expecting at such a high end place like this. The dining room can get a little loud but overall it was a phenomenal experience. One of my best dining experiences ever.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service and theExcellent service and the best steak in town!!!! Loved the energetic atmosphere and the personal service. The wait staff was superb!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMwe loved dining at grill 23.thewe loved dining at grill 23.the staff is friendly, we were seated right away. great restaurant week menu3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways loved the hand cutAlways loved the hand cut chips at the bar which they did not offer. The food was excellent but thought the restaurant week menu did not give most of the restaurants flair3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent experience! My friendExcellent experience! My friend did not like that the server atempted to change her order based on what she thought she would like. Other than that we had a great time. Beautiful decor, service otherwise great, valet quick, food was delicious.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, loudRestaurant week review: I sampled most of the menu and thought the pork belly appetizer was the standout. Deliciously tender and flavorful. The pea soup was overpowered by the mint. The brisket was satisfying but the garlic mashed potatoes were lackluster and made the meal too heavy. The trout was nice and crispy and the maple cornbread stuffing provided a nice sweet contrast. The desserts were fairly average to me. Overall, I felt like Grill 23 did a great job on the food to fit restaurant week's parameters. The service was fantastic and attentive, which sometimes doesn't happen on RW. The only downside to the meal was how loud it was. I felt like I was yelling at everyone at my table. I would probably go again for steak but not during RW.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for Reataurant Week inWent for Reataurant Week in a large group - the waiter was very good, and service was fantastic. Food was great, and what you would expect from a high rated steak house.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasantly SurprisedI went for Restaurant Week and I was pleasantly surprised at the presentation and execution of the meal. The wait staff were pleasant and attentive. The service was timed perfectly and the ambiance is suitable for an after-work drink with coworkers to dinner with your mate. I would go again but for a special occasion. There prices are comparable and suitable for the menu offerings but it is on the pricier side of Boston restaurants.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI had Kobe cap steak and myI had Kobe cap steak and my girlfriend had the 100day dry aged ribeye. They were the beat steaks any of us has eaten. The atmosphere was good and the staff excellent. By a long way the beat dining experience we've had3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional service, all employeesExceptional service, all employees in the restaurant are EXTREMELY kind, helpful, wonderful hospitality. Unfortunately, food was not as good.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food, especiallyOutstanding food, especially the aged steaks that melt in your mouth and drip with flavor. The one person in our party who ordered fish, raved about the trout. Extremely attentive service. Upstairs is more intimate and quieter than downstairs. If you can afford it, this is a great place to celebrate a special occasion.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service. WineGreat food and service. Wine list is extensive and expensive.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA tradition continuesMy friend and I always go to Grill 23 when in Boston. It is, in my opinion, the best steak restaurant in Boston. Delicious! If you aren't getting the Kobe, you are cheating yourself. Go for it...you deserve it!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousGrill 23 never fails to deliver. 18 oz hundred day aged porterhouse cooked perfectly medium rare with béarnaise and a slew of sides. Terrific food, terrific drink, and exceptional service.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was good but theThe food was good but the noise level made conversation almost impossible. I hadn't been here in years and now I remember why. Very expensive and very loud.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was outstanding. The service was outstanding. Our server knew all about everything. The steak was faboulous. The potato was a little cold. Great ambience3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMIf I return here it wouldIf I return here it would definitely be with someone paying for me to have a very nice steak.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWent here with a group forWent here with a group for restaurant week. The steaks we all bought (some bought from the a la carte menu instead) were absolutely phenomenal. I can't wait to come here again for an incredible ribeye. Whatever you do, don't order anything any more cooked than rare. I ordered mine medium and it didn't compare to the rare/medium rares in my group.
I didn't enjoy the sides very much. The mashed potatoes honestly tasted as if they came from a bag of instant mashed potato mix. Another in my group ordered the mac 'n cheese, which was better, but not really worth the money in my opinion. The appetizers and dessert were good, but not nearly the level of quality found in the meats.
Absolutely coming back again, solely for the steaks.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMwaiter very pushy with winewaiter very pushy with wine suggestions--making 2 of us wait without the wine menu while he brought back the bottle offered on the Restaurant Week Menu.
Very limited beef choice as compared to other steak house offerings during restaurant week3/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
