The second time - a $300 dinner for two should be much, much, better - one of the two steaks, cooked "medium rare" was so dry I should have sent it back but didn't - my fault - but there are plenty of other places to go in Boston that know how to get things done correctly the first time. I won't be going back."

  • "My husband and I spent the evening in Boston and Grill 23 was highly recommended as the place to dine. I usually prefer seafood but my husband loves a great strip steak. Grill 23 does serve several seafood selections, but this evening the type of preparations were not as appealing as the steak, so I chose the Prime twin fillets. We started out sharing the most wonderful fried calamari appetizer which sat on top of a delicious light creamy pepperoncini sauce. It was fabulous! The meats were prepared to perfection yet we both agreed that we've had even better elsewhere. The port wine sauce served alongside the fillets was in a class by itself!! The recipe is online. Our waiter was most charming and attentive to our every request."

  • "We went there for a special occasion, table for 2. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and different options available to us, as one of us was vegan and the other a carnivore. Also the waiter was very professional when we had to send the steak back and be recooked (was not to our liking). He ended up taking care of the coffees for us which was very much appreciated. The noise level was a little higher than I expected but it was acceptable; that is expected I guess with a rather open floor plan. Overall a great evening and wonderful food!"

  • "This was our fourth times in six visit to Boston. By far Grill 23 is my favorite restaurant, seafood soup and the crab cake are amazing. My husband always took different steaks or meat and never complain about anything. Martini's are excellent too! We are going back in late August and we will go back again."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed two fantastic steak dinners as we celebrated her birthday. To start, we had lovely cocktails prepared by Kevin. Then for dinner we tried the Kobe steak (And I was hesitant as it is very pricey). But it was worth the treat, the flavor bursts with every bite. This is not something I would get all of the time $$$ but a great treat. Our server Heather was very knowledgeable and friendly and Yannick was as gracious as always. We ended with the chocolate cake (Yes with a candle in it) and it was heavenly. Overall a fantastic night out for a special occasion."

  • "We visited on the occasion of our anniversary and were blown away. It was the most positive dining experience I've had in Boston - best Cosmo I've ever had! The calamari appetizer was crisp and large enough to share. My boyfriend ordered the 100 day aged Ribeye, which was the most flavorful piece of meat I have ever tasted. He was in heaven! He also ordered the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach for sides, both were plentiful and first class dishes. I ordered the beef tenderloin, which came with mashed potatoes and port wine au jus. The meat was tender and the sauce was rich and delicious. The portions were so large that we didn't have room for dessert! However, the fantastic waiter brought over a scoop of ice cream on the house."

  • "Grill 23 was recommended to me by a friend. Both of us had the filet which was EXCELLENT. This was also my girlfriends 30th bday and they came out with this perfect sized desert for her with a piece of white chocolate that said Happy Bday on it. It was perfect."

  • "Service was just adequate. Certainly nothing special. Very fast in and out type of feeling. Certainly not a restaurant for a romantic occasion. We had to tell the waiter to slow it down or we would have been out in half an hour for a bill over 250.00 dollars."

  • "Let me start by saying our waiter was nice, however the food was not worth the price. When you are spending $200 on dinner you expect to be able to tweak an item here or there. I am personally a very picky eater and like things very plain. I requested that the mashed potatoes be made without garlic infused butter, the waiter was very nice but informed me that they are pre-made (which seemed odd for a $10 side) and I could not be accommodated. I have been to several of the nicer Boston steak houses and they were all able to fulfill such a small request. Anyway the tenderloin was good just not the type of service I am used to when shelling out that much dough. I would suggest another steak house in the area if I had it to do over."

  • "First of all, I ordered a half bottle of Duckhorn merlot 2010. They brought 2011. Opened it,then told me. Then order bone-in ribeye, they brought aged rib eye instead. Over cooked even tho I ordered medium. Caesar salad was wilted and way over dressing. Made even soggier. Over all not nearly the experience I had last time. From out of town."

  • "Very disappointed in the food. The service was excellent, Tim and Sebastian could not be more attentive but the food was really lacking. The seafood chowder tasted like dishwater with some potatoes thrown in and there were too many of those. The lobster that was in the bowl was hard and chewy. My wife's filet mignon had fat in it, a real no no for good filet. My bone-in-ribeye was okay but lacked flavor and I asked for it medium but it was more medium/well. If I got this meal at my local restaurant on the South Shore, I'd be okay with it but for a place as renowned and EXPENSIVE as Grill 23, we were both very very disappointed and will stick to the Capital Grille in the future. Apparently Grill 23 is living off past laurels."

  • "Excellent food and very extensive wine list. We had the 100 Day Aged Rib Eye and the Crusted Tuna with a side of the cognac mushrooms. Ambiance was very nice, lively. Somewhat loud, but was downstairs - perhaps upstairs would be quieter. Great staff. Worth every penny."

  • "Due to it's location, the atmosphere is professional. The menu and food are about a half point below the very top of the list, and the staff is outstanding. The valet service is exceptional. Lively, but noisy, so the conversations carry, but don't let that detract you from celebrating a special occasion or a business dinner there. You won't be disappointed."

  • "My wife and I had the opportunity to dine at Grill 23. I heard about the venue from a former colleague. She mentioned the food was fantastic. The overall experience was completely beyond our expectations! The venue was perfect, the ambiance was typical old school steakhouse (quite a bit of wood, tapestries, lovely aromas of meat and laid back but not frivolous), the service was the best we have had in the United States, the meat was very, very, very good and the sides were perfect. The entire experience reminded us of the old Queue de Cheval in Montreal. I had the 100 day dry aged Ribeye....for meat lovers, this is your steak!"

  • "Steak frites was excellent, but could have used less frites. The tator tots were odd-I think they used truffle oil, but the menu didn't state that. I don't like truffle oil-so only had a few. The onion rings were outstanding. They had a nice wine by the glass selection. My dining partners were not wine drinkers so it was nice to get quality wine by the glass. Dessert menue was kind of boring."

  • "The waiter recommended the aged beef and both the 100 day aged ribeye and the aged New York were absolutely fabulous. The mac and cheese was also amazing. Definitely not a meal that you would have often, but what a treat. Both steaks are large enough to share unless you have a healthy appetite. Restaurant is very loud though and needs to add some nice summer Rose wines to the list."

  • "A lot of younger waiters trying to substitute charm for proficiency. Steaks were all cooked one step too long (e.g. med. rare was med.) Sides were all very good. I mentioned an $80 bottle of wine to the waiter and asked for the sommelier to see if he could suggest something better in that price range. Waiter returned and said sommelier had no other suggestions and would not be coming to the table. Our bottle was brought to the table 5 minutes after our steaks. Steaks were just ok. This place is close to Abe and Louie's, Smith and Wilensky's, Mooo, Morton's and others. I'll hit one of them next time."

The Kobe Cap Steak and the 100 Day Dry Aged Ribeye are fantastic. The staff is welcoming, the service is outstanding.   • "Don't usually have high hopes for steak houses, but Grill 23 was a major disappointment. NY Sirloin was very average both in preparation and quality of the meat (no better than what I would have had at home). Side dishes were horrible. Overly battered and undercooked onion rings (worth only one bite) and a very generous but bland dish of roasted button mushrooms were our regrettable choices. The appetizer of fried calamari and fennel, again very generous, had potential but proportions were loopsided (a small amount of calamari lost in a sea of fried fennel). Service was just OK. The saving graces were the excellent martinis and the gift certificate that saved us from having to spend anything beyond the tip for a lackluster meal."

  • "The mâitre d' expertly managed the chaos of the knotted traffic and my put my guests at ease as they arrived. Staff was attentive, never allowing a glass to near empty, were knowledgeable. My guests were absolutely giggly at the lobster presentation. Whether lobster, lamb, or steak, all were expertly prepared. Great experience!"

  • "Hadn't been to Grill 23 for several years but I had fond memories of business dinners there so decided to try it with friends from Australia, who were in town for just one evening. The food was excellent but even on a Tuesday night the tables were too close together and it was FAR too noisy - we couldn't hear each other or the wait staff without yelling."

  • "I'd been to Grill 23 before, about a year and a half ago and that time it was the best steak I had ever had, and one of the best meals I ever had. This time it was not as good, still excellent but not anything to write home about, for sure not worth the money paid for the meal, as it was the first time around. Don't know what the lunch prices are but if they're cheaper then I think it would be a good place for a business lunch."

We were especially pleased, however, since we requested a quiet table (we were a large family group), and mgmt. situated us at a large table in one of the smaller "function" rooms. This worked perfectly and we appreciated having most of the room to ourselves. We will definitely be back for special occasion gatherings."

  • "Four adults all ordered either steak or lamb, medium rare. All were purple inside. All returned once, the lamb was returned twice. This group never returns food. Everything tasted great eventually, and sides were very good though we ate those as appetizers waiting for our entrees. We split two desserts and the manager graciously paid for them as an acknowledgement for the undercooked meals. I've been here before, the chef was just overly cautious to not overcook the meat this time."
