  • "We are P/T residents of the Beaufort area and thia was our second time at Griffin Market. In our opinion the food is tops in the area. Everything is cooked from scratch and tastes fresh. The menu changes daily which means more variety. Very laid back atmosphere and you never feel rushed. Wine list is outstanding. We will return everytime we come back."

  • "This restaurant is a gem. No need to spend thousands of dollars on a flight to Milan for northern Italian food. Come here instead. Just don’t expect eggplant parmesan or fettuccine alfredo….this is this real deal. How did Beaufort land such an incredible restaurant?"

  • "What a great place. It is certainly the gem it's hyped to be. Special atmosphere inside give you the feeling of true Italian dining. I would strongly recommend this for couples who want to enjoy an evening of food and companionship. We were never pushed, and we felt welcome from the time we were greeted at the door."

  • "Loved the variety of seasonal specialities. The owner made excellent recommendations for the table and while I was initially suspect of the portion size, we were very pleased. The homemade pasta was equal to the food I had in Rome and Florence. It is not a traditional Italian/American restaurant and that's fine with me!"

  • "I enjoyed Griffin Market so much that before I left I made another reservation"

  • "Four of us went to the Griffen Market for lunch on a Friday. We all agreed that the appetizers were the best we have eaten in the Low Country. The owner was very helpful in choosing a wine to go with our meal and we all chose a main pasta dish and they were all delicious! We would recommend this restaurant for a real Italian experience."

  • "The food was fabulous......it's not the quantity but, the quality, and mine was quality all the way. Had the St. Helena Kale Padta and Lamb."

  • "Every seat was occupied for the Sunday night prixe fix tasting menu...and I understand why. It was a memorable meal and quiet enough for a conversation. My only caveat is that you plan this to be your entire evening's activity as the delicious and classic Northern Italian food is lovingly prepared by the owner's wife with only one assistant. We arrived at 7:30 and left at 10:00 PM. Still, it was a perfect evening of exquisite food served at a leisurely pace. I will book it again and again. The wine list is amazing; selections made by someone with real knowledge."

  • "We lived in Italy for several years and have eaten at many great restaurants. This was one of the best we have experienced in the continental USA. Everything was more than we hoped for. Service & food were excellent. We would have enjoyed a nice espresso at the end of our meal but the owner Ricardo apologized saying that he does not currently serve espresso because to have the quality machine he would want to make the perfect espresso would not be practical for the few customers that would request it. He refuses to "cut-corners" and serves only products that meet his high standards. That is why his menu and the impressive wine selection is the best in our opinion. We'll definitely be back for another great meal when we return to Beaufort."

  • "Laura is an amazing chef - you can tell she puts love into her cooking. I had the cabbage stuffed ravioli and it was a party in my mouth! My husband had the papardelle with duck ragu and he said it was the best thing he has ever eaten! We are blown away every time we eat here. The menu is always changing and I've never had anything that wasn't delicious. The place is small so be sure to make a reservation."

  • "This is a great little restaurant/bar in Charleston. Best fish and chips or the friend shrimp.... so delish!"

  • "We were a bit disappointed with the food, other than the kale pasta. My duck was average, but the seafood stew was strange. It was loaded with calamari, one potato, 2 shrimp, but no fish as advertised; with a dark fishy sauce. The bread was served with the anapasti, but they don't serve any oil or butter with it. It was very dry - not much sauce to dampen it. Even though the restaurant has had excellent reviews, we would not recommend it."

  • "Love this place. Not a big place but very friendly. Food is great, the menu changes daily so I will refrain from commenting on any specific dish. This is like a little slice of Italy in downtown Beaufort... Three courses +desert, you will leave full but not stuffed. Wine list is superb, mostly Italian and French but there is something for everyone. Service is exactly what you would expect in a small Italian ristorante, its not the French Laundry but you will never be waiting for anything. Save room for desert, usually made daily or brought in daily. Finish the night with a glass of "Genepy de Alps" a flower liquor that is the perfect finish... The worst part of this place is finding it, there is no sign... worth searching it out."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our lunch. I had the rigatoni with barbecued pork. I came with a delightful sauce. My wife had the home made pate which she thought was excellent. She enjoyed her pasta with four chesses"

  • "Wonderful wine list with very informative notes. Chef was helpful and engaging. Don't miss the pate with truffle infused honey."

  • "My wife and I were in Beaufort for a little weekend getaway and were lucky enough to find this gem (thanks Yelp/OpenTable). It is a small husband (front of the house) and wife (back of the house) run restaurant that was shockingly good. When we opened the door and stepped in someone near the door had just ordered oysters or something and there was a pretty strong fishy smell in the air, my wife and I both looked at each other with a "oh no", but we stuck it out, and minutes later that completely faded and we were in for a treat. The wine list is masterfully curated by the Owner/Sommelier/Waiter/Charmer and has absolute gems in whatever price you are looking for. Go here, you will not regret it."

  • "We were spending a few days in Beaufort. While walking around after dinner the first night, we walked past Griffin Market. As others have pointed out, there is no sign. We noticed a menu in the window and stopped to read to see what the restaurant was about. Glad we did. We read some reviews online and decided to make a reservation. Excellent meal. We were discussing it later and it definitely ranked in the top 5 meals we had ever had. Relaxing and enjoyable evening."

  • "What a lovely evening! 5 picky women could not have enjoyed any better of a dining experience!!!! The service OUTSTANDING!! The food OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! The asparagus egg dinner - Oh my gosh there are no words ....Along with the verde pasta and the tons of other dishes. I truly can say that having a dining experience this enjoyable is an extremely rare treat! I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to truly enjoy a fabulous dining experience and food that makes you sing. What a hidden treasure in Beaufort, SC. Thank you for such a great experience and I know we will be back!!!!!"

  • "This is a hidden gem of a restaurant in Beaufort for people who like fine dining, particularly northern Italian. With seats for about 25, the restaurant has a family style feel as both the owners interface with diners. Not for kids; not a sandwich type place. Excellent, fresh, local food."

  • "Who would have thought that within the walls of a lime green cinder block building we'd find some of the best Italian food we've ever tasted. Once inside, we felt like we had stepped into a Northern Italian restaurant. Owner Riccardo encouraged us to get the full four course meal. We took his recommendation and were delighted we did. He takes care of the extensive wine list and his wife is the chef. We were served a lot of food, but worth every mouthful, from antipasto to dessert."

  • "I haven't eaten in many of Beaufort's restaurants but I'd hazard a guess that Griffin Market is the best of them. This is because the traditional Piedmont food is so carefully prepared, with small, but fine twists. The warm, energetic host and subdued ambience help to make the experience delightful. We were so pleased we returned for another lovely dinner."

  • "This is the best restaurant in Beaufort!! In fact, in the entire Lowcountry area!! Great atmosphere, fantastic food, excellent service. Best of all...the wine list. Voted one of the top 100 wine lists in the US, and it is obvious why! Riccardo and Laura are passionate about serving authentic Piemontese food and Italian wines. Bellisimo!!"

  • "The food and the service was wonderful. They have a very note able wine list and the owner went above and beyond to make sure that we had a fantastic meal. Our party loved the veal meatballs and the oxtail was amazing. The bottle of wine was one of the best I've ever had. This restaurant is a hidden gem and we will definitely be going again."

  • "We go to Beaufort quite often but we never knew that Griffin Market was right downtown until last week...what a find! The bolognese was outstanding! The skirt steak and mushrooms were perfectly seasoned and prepared. The peach sorbet delightful. It is a small, friendly restaurant and from our seat we could easily see that most diners were regulars and were met with open arms and familiar greetings! We certainly plan to become regulars! Make reservations, you will be pleased."

  • "So much fun to enjoy a 4 course Italian dinner with ease Wine selection was affordable and we were able to move through each course with personal recommendations from the Italian owner Fun night with very good food served with a personal touch"

  • "This is our second time dining at Griffin Market in the past 6 months and all that we liked has stayed the same…Riccardo (one of the owners) gives you his personal attention and is lots of fun to talk with…Laura (the other owner/Chef) still turns out dishes that are reminiscent of meals we've had in Italy…portions are small by American standards, and we like variety, so we enjoyed sharing appetizers, pastas and entrees. Of special note this visit was an appetizer of thinly sliced roast veal with a tuna, caper, anchovy sauce with grilled rustic bread..so good we were tempted to cancel our order and just eat servings of this till we had out fill. Our thanks to Laura and Riccardo for bringing great Italian food to the area."

  • "This was our first visit to the Griffin Market in Beaufort, SC. It was the best -- the food, the service and the ambiance. We are from Washington, DC and are happy to have found the owners who were once very important in the food/restaurant industry from DC. Hope to visit this restaurant every time we visit Beaufort."

  • "We had heard complimentary things about this restaurant and for the most part our expectations were met. Friendly welcoming wait staff( the co- owner along with his wife who is the chef). The food was tasty and nicely presented, but even for lunch the portions were very small. While proclaiming that they were offering food in the Italian tradition, the presumption that bread is only offered with appetizers is a bit overblown. The wine list is extensive and for the most part affordable priced."

  • "Warm, intimate atmosphere. Artwork by world renown Betsy Chaffin lends an upscale feeling to the space. Ricardo, the owner, gives you a personal welcome and leads you gently through the choices of food and wine. The wines are reasonably priced which is hard to believe since their quality is superior. Laura, wife of Ricardo, oversees the kitchen and maintains the highest of standards for freshness, variety, preparation and presentation. Many of the selections are from nearby farms. Authentic Italian. Salamis, olives, cheeses, tuna, truffle oil, wines, etc. all from Italy. Home made pasta. Favorites: arancini, tagliatella either bolognese or verdi, truffle eggs, oxtail, lamb shank, caramel budino."
