We've always had great food and
service here. You can make it a casual dining experience or you can dress it up! We've come in large groups and by ourselves as a couple and have always had very attentive service. The birthday/anniversary promotion is nice too."

This restaurant was recommended to
us, so I took my husband there for his birthday! He was super happy with his food as well as myself. We signed up for the birthday/anniversary club which is a nice bonus next year whe we get to utilize it. Aaron was our server and he was fantastic."

We live in the area, eat here a
few times a year and have never been disappointed. Six of us ate here for my husband's 70th birthday. The prime rib was excellent, according to two of our party, as was the pecan crusted whitefish, one of my favorites. The 2 for 42 deal can't be beat! Does tend to be noisy, but we were still able to carry on a conversation. Jordan, our waitress, was very informative and attentive, let us take our time, and did not make us feel rushed at all."

Just east of downtown Charlevoix
in the unique Belvedere community, Grey Gables has long been a Charlevoix landmark restaurant. We enjoyed an excellent meal with great service. Our table ordered the filet, prime rib and white fish and all were well prepared. We finished off with the ever-popular Sanders hot fudge cream puff with extra hot fudge."

What a great place to experience
an evening dinner! We enjoyed the delicious meal, the warm and cozy atmosphere, and the hospitality of the waitstaff. The Grey Gables Inn will definitely merit a return trip."

Great gables is a place we have
been driving by and curious about. After visiting their website we decided to make it a place to enjoy our wedding anniversary. This was such a great decision. They were so professional. Our waiter Aaron couldn't have been more knowledgable on the menu and helped me us choose the perfect meal with his recommendations. The general manger introduced himself and spoke kindly and the chef came out and introduced himself and spoke with us as we'll. thank you for such a great evening!"

In a rare occurence, all six
people in our party had the same entree; potato gnocchi with braised short ribs. The temps outside were in single digits, and this "homey" dish in an upscale presentation proved irresistable. We were not disappointed. What a wonderful way to chase away the chills; good friends, a great atmosphere, and comfort food."

Highly recommend this restaurant
to anyone who values great food and knows that even if the food is excellent, it's the service that makes the meal special. We enjoyed our food selections, each one was high quality and delicious. The service was fantastic. Our server, Pam greeted us with a smile from the moment we were seated and she did a top-notch job making us feel welcome at Grey Gables! We would only ask for her when we go back again! The staff was very friendly, and a special shout out to bartender Matt for visiting us at the table and joining us for a special toast to a fantastic evening! The Grey Gables Inn is on our "not to be missed" list for our next trip to Charlevoix."

We have a get-away condo in
Petoskey - discovered Gray Gable four years ago - it has become our New Year's Eve tradition. Food is excellent - so is the service - just a pretty and fun place to celebrate. We also manage to get there throughout the year - we're never disappointed."

My husband and I recently
celebrated our 27th Anniversary at Grey Gables. We ordered the 2 for $42 and were very happy with the meal and the ambiance. Thank you for a special evening."
Dined on 12/23/2013
A cozy restaurant in a picturesque
part of town. Menu is typical mid-America with added local fish. All is prepared well and nicely presented. Menu could stand updating or more specials."
Dined on 12/9/2013
GG's is one of our favorite
"special" places to dine. The staff is so friendly and make the experience special everytime we share a special occasion with friends or family. We are looking forward to their winter specials!"

We have dined here several times.
I have always had a pleasant experience. The management and staff are very courteous and more than accommodating. The General Manager, Bartenders, and Servers are welcoming. The Chefs and kitchen staff definitely know their way around a kitchen, providing the best. I would recommend to anyone."

Gray Gables was recommended to us
while we were in the Charlevoix area and we were not disappointed! We had an early reservation and ended up being able to take advantage the the Early Bird special - two dinners/salads, a bottle of house wine and dessert (a Saunders Hot Fudge Sundae!) for $42.00!!! The food was amazing, the service exceptional (a shout out to Aaron!) and the scones were out of this world!!! Thanks Gray Gables for a wonderful meal (all the way around!!)"

This is a very charming excellent
restaurant! Food is always consistently very good & presented very nicely. Most of the staff are "right on top of it" and there to give you the best service (exception in the bar). One of my favorite restaurants in town!"
Dined on 10/20/2013
Excellent service from our waiter
Aaron. Attentive but not intrusive, Aaron suggested both wine choices As well as entree selections. The food is well prepared and well presented, though the vegetables could have been Warmer. Whitefish and prime rib were both delicious and the portions very generous."
Dined on 10/12/2013
Dated interior design was a
disappointment. Service was great and attentive. Food quality, especially the stuffed whitefish, was awful. It appeared that turkey stuffing was draped over the fish, then baked. No shrimp apparent in the stuffing. Autumn bisque was good but a little too sweet. Bar eemed lively. Wished we had eaten there instead of the dining room. Only 6 other patrons there during our time in the restaurant."
Dined on 10/4/2013
My ceasar salad had brown lettuce
in it My wifes filet mignon was tougb and tasteless, and very expensive. We will never go back nor reccomend this place."
Dined on 10/2/2013
Our group of four opted to dine in
the cozy comfortable seating in the bar area. Great ambience. Food was fabulous with friendly, spot-on recommendations from our waiter. Avacado crab spring rolls were crisp and flavorful. Roasted beets, mushroom pizza, tomato mozzarella salad topped off by an amazing freshly baked chocolate cream puff made for a wonderful array of tastes. Nice array of small plate offerings."

When we pulled up to the
resturant, I thought at first they were going for the "shabby-chic" look. Then I realized it just really needed some TLC! I also noticed the menus had been recycled many times because they were bent and had marks on them. Thankfully we didn't let those cosmetic things scare us away because the food was excellent. Everything arrived at our table perfectly prepared. The Almond Creme Brûlée will make you weep it was so wonderful. At the prices they charge, I just expected Grey Gables Inn to be a little more classy than it was."

Great meal from drinks to
apps/salad/main course. Service was outstanding as always. Looking forward to coming back."

We read all the reviews, then
decided to try Grey Gables. It was after Labor Day, the place was not as frantic as it is during the summer ... maybe the reason for some of the not so glamorous reviews. Our experience was very positive, there were only a few other diners, so it was fairly quiet. The food and service were excellent ... we had whitefish and walleye, the latter came with a creole sauce that was outstanding. Cannot really fault anything ... we had hoped there was a view of the harbor (there isn't), the wine glasses should be a little more upmarket than the cheap ones we had and we felt a little rushed ... in and out in an hour, we would have appreciated more time to savor the ambiance."
Dined on 9/12/2013
Good food and fine service the
wine list could be improved to further compliment the fine food"
Dined on 9/14/2013
Tis is a lovely place for dinner.
I loved my walleye. My husband decided on 2 small plates which were not enough. Meh should have chosen 3, but when you go to a restaurant for the first time, the portion size is an unknown. Perhaps the waitperson should have told him. Then again, she doesn't know his appetite. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Charlevoix."
Dined on 9/8/2013
A real bargain with a $42 dinner
for 2 with salad, choice of 3-4 entrees, dessert and a full bottle of wine. Menu has lots of choices. The chocolate bread pudding using croissants is to die for."
Dined on 9/2/2013
This foodie gem suffers from
amateur service. Everything we ordered was delicious: risotto, salads, lamb shank, fish, wine (house red especially good and extremely reasonable). But the server was a novice and no one explained to him that the table needs to be cleared once in a while. At one point a veteran server dashed to our table, interrupted our discourse with our server and barked at him "Those women over there? I watered 'em and answered ten questions. They're all yours." I wasn't sure whether he was being directed to stable the women or serve them. We were both horrified and hugely amused. This lead into a table discussion of our days as servers ourselves decades ago with many amusing and not-so-amusing memories being aired."

Food is outstanding!! Service is
good on some nights. I had the filet minon seared to a juicy favorite with genorously whipped mashed potatoes with a pure parmesan crisp. And to top it off for dinner I got a homemade icecream puff with a hot fudge to surround it. YUM!!!"

My husband ans I discovered
GreyGables this summer. We've been there three times, taking friends each time. A wonderful place to dine."

My son and his girl friend took my
wife and I to the Grey Gables for my birthday dinner. We were quickly seated and the wait staff was right there. The staff was helpful without being intrusive. I (being tired of too many healthy fish dinners) order the barbecued back baby ribs which were meaty, cooked juat right with a good, strong sauce. Everyone else order one of the whitefish dishes. Locally caught and very fresh everyone was delighted with their meals. My son and his girl friend are Chicago residents and almost real foodies( in addition to being good cooks) they enjoyed their dinner and said the fish was as good as any they had had."
Dined on 8/18/2013
We were a group of 10 seated at a
round table. Service was quick but not overbearing. Wine list has many choices and many of the draft beers are from Michigan breweries. The stuffed whitefish was outstanding. The other guests had a variety of dishes and were very pleased. Only the mussels were disappointing. They were not cooked well, tough and had no taste Our group would return to Grey Gables."

Slightly outside of the main
charlevoix drag, this converted Victorian house provides a romantic ambience serving classic dishes with some modern flares."
Dined on 8/16/2013
Piano bar was a joke..he wasn't
actually playing,he was singing with a recorded version."
Dined on 8/14/2013
Everyone in our party had a
different type of food and very dish was outstanding. Would highly recommend."
Dined on 8/11/2013
We dine here a few times a year
and weekends during the summer tourist season the quality of the food and prep there of REALLY suffers! They have overloaded their kitchen badly. The rest of the year the food is much better"
Dined on 8/11/2013
There were six of us at dinner and
only half of us enjoyed our food. The salmon, ribs and lamb shank were great but the hanger steak was grizzly and tough, the pasta was swimming in oil and the pizza came out 15 minutes after everyone else had been served so I was left to eat my dinner once most of the other plates have been emptied and cleared. There was a water issue in town so only bottle water was available. But instead of the restaurant offering bottled water as a subsitution they charged us $2 a bottle!! This was a sad decision made by managemet. I would not go back here. All that being said our waitress was wonderful. Attentive and very polite."
Dined on 8/10/2013
Food was very good at the Grey
Gables Inn, but we (my wife and I) were seated in a very small room in a part of the restaurant, so the neighboring tables were within 2 feet of you, so there was not much privacy. In addition, our waiter did not have a great deal of personality and appeared to be friendly only to the regulars at the restaurant. The service was extremely rushed and one course followed within seconds of the next, so this was not a relaxing dinner. I would write this experience off to a waiter with a summer job and not blame it entirely on the restaurant. I would go back and would be more forceful with regard to seating preference. We did have a reservation for that evening made in advance of our arriving in town."

While visiting Charlevoix during
the Venetian Festival, my wine and I went to the Grey Gables with friends. We hadn't dined there in eons but were pleasantly pleased by the menu and food quality. One of us had the white fish with crab topping, another the mussels, and the final two had the lobster and heirloom tomato risotto special. The wine list is adequate and the service was good. All-in-all we had a nice evening in northern Michigan."

When we come to Charlevoix by boat
we make sure we go to Grey Gables Inn for dinner. We always have had an excellent meal. The front dinning area is so charming and intimate. Our server Peter was very professional. We ate early and they have a fantastic early bird special. The bar area is cozy with a piano player. For a great dinning experience this is the place."
