  • "We went to Grey Gables Inn expecting pizza and maybe a beer but found that it was a fine dining restaurant as well. We would have stuck with the pizza and beer idea but they had a special (2 dinners for $44) that changed our minds. The food was excellent as well as the service. We would definately dine there again."

  • "We have never been unhappy dining at GGs. The menu has lots of options. The salmon entree is always outstanding and beautifully presented. My husband raved about the special prime rib offered in 3 sizes. Kale salad with cherries and a lobster risotto to start - excellent. Service could be improved, but the detail to the food is incredible. A lovely setting on a quiet street!"

  • "We recently celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary at the Grey Gables. My lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone fabulous paired with a shiraz/Grenache Australian wine and my wife's fish was delectable. The mushroom bisque is a revelation, redolent of a little sherry maybe? The service was even better. Jordan, our server, remembered us from a prior visit last year and sat us a premium table with a nice view of the local neighborhood. The manager also came out to reminisce with us and the complementary almond crème brulee was very tasty. We live in Central Michigan and visit the Charlevoix area a couple of times a year and the Grey Gables has been on our agenda for around 10 years. Not all that pricey, a little sedate but worth the trip."

  • "This is a really special place - looks like it was someone's home with the tables placed in the various rooms. The food is terrific! The service very congenial and staff were very attentive. Table was prepared prior to our arrival. The buffet was kept well-stocked throughout our meal. The 3 foot chocolate fountain was a hit with the ladies at our table as was the desert bar with it's variety of site prepared deserts. We have been there for Mother's Day in the past and enjoyed the meal then as well."

  • " We took my mother to Grey Gables for Easter Brunch, I let them know a few times that she is in a wheel chair and would need easy access to the buffet. We were sat at the back of the restaurant which made it impossible for her to pick out her food, someone had to go get stuff for her and bring it back. Food was pretty good, although we felt the beef was tough and the ham was dried out. Jordan was our waitress and she did a nice job. "

  • "The brunch was good other than difficulty cutting into the roast beef. It was on the tough side. Also, would like to have seen a couple unique dishes. The choices were tasty but boring. Almost "grandma's house" type of choices. Desert table could have been more appealing. Waitress was excellent and victorian ambience was pleasant. "

  • "We made a 5:30 p.m. reservation to fit our personal schedule and accidentally discovered when we arrived at the restaurant that they offered an "early bird special for two" that was an outstanding value. We do not know how often this special is offered, but it was a fabulous value. Choice of four different entres, each of the two people can make their own choice from this list, plus a house or caesar sald for each person, plus a small hot fudge sundae for each person plus one bottle of either white or red wine. Didn't know about the special prior to arrival but it was great! Food and service were excellent and we won't hesitate to return when in the area even if there isn't another "early bird special.""

  • "We've always had great food and service here. You can make it a casual dining experience or you can dress it up! We've come in large groups and by ourselves as a couple and have always had very attentive service. The birthday/anniversary promotion is nice too."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to us, so I took my husband there for his birthday! He was super happy with his food as well as myself. We signed up for the birthday/anniversary club which is a nice bonus next year whe we get to utilize it. Aaron was our server and he was fantastic."

  • "We live in the area, eat here a few times a year and have never been disappointed. Six of us ate here for my husband's 70th birthday. The prime rib was excellent, according to two of our party, as was the pecan crusted whitefish, one of my favorites. The 2 for 42 deal can't be beat! Does tend to be noisy, but we were still able to carry on a conversation. Jordan, our waitress, was very informative and attentive, let us take our time, and did not make us feel rushed at all."

  • "Just east of downtown Charlevoix in the unique Belvedere community, Grey Gables has long been a Charlevoix landmark restaurant. We enjoyed an excellent meal with great service. Our table ordered the filet, prime rib and white fish and all were well prepared. We finished off with the ever-popular Sanders hot fudge cream puff with extra hot fudge."

  • "Great gables is a place we have been driving by and curious about. After visiting their website we decided to make it a place to enjoy our wedding anniversary. This was such a great decision. They were so professional. Our waiter Aaron couldn't have been more knowledgable on the menu and helped me us choose the perfect meal with his recommendations. The general manger introduced himself and spoke kindly and the chef came out and introduced himself and spoke with us as we'll. thank you for such a great evening!"

  • "In a rare occurence, all six people in our party had the same entree; potato gnocchi with braised short ribs. The temps outside were in single digits, and this "homey" dish in an upscale presentation proved irresistable. We were not disappointed. What a wonderful way to chase away the chills; good friends, a great atmosphere, and comfort food."

  • "Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who values great food and knows that even if the food is excellent, it's the service that makes the meal special. We enjoyed our food selections, each one was high quality and delicious. The service was fantastic. Our server, Pam greeted us with a smile from the moment we were seated and she did a top-notch job making us feel welcome at Grey Gables! We would only ask for her when we go back again! The staff was very friendly, and a special shout out to bartender Matt for visiting us at the table and joining us for a special toast to a fantastic evening! The Grey Gables Inn is on our "not to be missed" list for our next trip to Charlevoix."

  • "We have a get-away condo in Petoskey - discovered Gray Gable four years ago - it has become our New Year's Eve tradition. Food is excellent - so is the service - just a pretty and fun place to celebrate. We also manage to get there throughout the year - we're never disappointed."

  • "We have dined here several times. I have always had a pleasant experience. The management and staff are very courteous and more than accommodating. The General Manager, Bartenders, and Servers are welcoming. The Chefs and kitchen staff definitely know their way around a kitchen, providing the best. I would recommend to anyone."

  • "Gray Gables was recommended to us while we were in the Charlevoix area and we were not disappointed! We had an early reservation and ended up being able to take advantage the the Early Bird special - two dinners/salads, a bottle of house wine and dessert (a Saunders Hot Fudge Sundae!) for $42.00!!! The food was amazing, the service exceptional (a shout out to Aaron!) and the scones were out of this world!!! Thanks Gray Gables for a wonderful meal (all the way around!!)"

  • "This is a very charming excellent restaurant! Food is always consistently very good & presented very nicely. Most of the staff are "right on top of it" and there to give you the best service (exception in the bar). One of my favorite restaurants in town!"

  • "Excellent service from our waiter Aaron. Attentive but not intrusive, Aaron suggested both wine choices As well as entree selections. The food is well prepared and well presented, though the vegetables could have been Warmer. Whitefish and prime rib were both delicious and the portions very generous."

  • "Dated interior design was a disappointment. Service was great and attentive. Food quality, especially the stuffed whitefish, was awful. It appeared that turkey stuffing was draped over the fish, then baked. No shrimp apparent in the stuffing. Autumn bisque was good but a little too sweet. Bar eemed lively. Wished we had eaten there instead of the dining room. Only 6 other patrons there during our time in the restaurant."

  • "Our group of four opted to dine in the cozy comfortable seating in the bar area. Great ambience. Food was fabulous with friendly, spot-on recommendations from our waiter. Avacado crab spring rolls were crisp and flavorful. Roasted beets, mushroom pizza, tomato mozzarella salad topped off by an amazing freshly baked chocolate cream puff made for a wonderful array of tastes. Nice array of small plate offerings."

  • "When we pulled up to the resturant, I thought at first they were going for the "shabby-chic" look. Then I realized it just really needed some TLC! I also noticed the menus had been recycled many times because they were bent and had marks on them. Thankfully we didn't let those cosmetic things scare us away because the food was excellent. Everything arrived at our table perfectly prepared. The Almond Creme Brûlée will make you weep it was so wonderful. At the prices they charge, I just expected Grey Gables Inn to be a little more classy than it was."

  • "We read all the reviews, then decided to try Grey Gables. It was after Labor Day, the place was not as frantic as it is during the summer ... maybe the reason for some of the not so glamorous reviews. Our experience was very positive, there were only a few other diners, so it was fairly quiet. The food and service were excellent ... we had whitefish and walleye, the latter came with a creole sauce that was outstanding. Cannot really fault anything ... we had hoped there was a view of the harbor (there isn't), the wine glasses should be a little more upmarket than the cheap ones we had and we felt a little rushed ... in and out in an hour, we would have appreciated more time to savor the ambiance."
